Replace “browser based” with “FREE-to-play”
They don’t make “everything pale in comparison” either, even though they are free.
He is right that PC gaming has been in decline. It’s just a cumulative result of cheating+hacking+piracy over the years.
That one of the most popular FPS PC games by far is a “browser-based” remake of a decade+ old arena shooter, is not only rather a pathetic deterioration of the genre, but a grim sign of things to come.
Hopefully, BF3 can inject some new life into the PC fps gaming community(if it can still be considered a community). I know I’ll be putting in at least a few hundred hours on that beautiful work of art. :)
Firstly, there is more piracy and it’s easier to pirate on console. Rips of games come out before release for console. Sometimes it takes weeks for a PC rip to come out.
Secondly, there are more PC gamers now by a HUGE margin than there was 10 years ago. It’s just there’s a lot more games these days and the majority of people like their farmville and other endless grinds. Also those “free to play games” across all platforms count for more players than any numbers a paying title can put out… Farmville has over 80 million players.
Again you must note that I never said there were more PC players than console. But to say PC gaming is dying is to have a poor grasp of what is really happening. Which is segregated player base. Companies try to bring in the money through DLC which fragments communities. They also throw a different name and some different art on a game and call it a new AAA title. It has minor adjustments but it’s a very similar… that splits the player base even more.
There hasn’t been a FPS game that REALLY caters to the community since TF2/COD4(in my experience). However there are plenty of RTS/MMOs.
Bottom line PC gaming will never die… Competitive FPS PC gaming well that’s a different story.
Sorry BMXer
back on topic… Broken game is broke.
PC competitive gaming is pretty much still alive although it’s still mainly cs/quake/rts’s. At least until a company steps up and makes a game for the community… with an sdk. I agree it will probably get worse but… I am actually looking at indie games with a closer eye, hoping to fill that void.
