You guys do realize that...

Now I understand my rep will make you think I’m trolling. But admit it. The SMART wasn’t that great. The game could still work without it. Like Yahtzee said “Don’t put the crap there in the first place”.

That means, those little obstacles are pointless and don’t change anything. And maps don’t have enough walljumps, so this SMART was completely unneeded.

#2

Protip: those obstacles can also be referred to as “cover”.

(sereNADE) #3

I’m glad it’s there. There are a few spots where using SMART is the only way to negotiate that space. The tooltip for sliding is “pressing (your bound keys) is a great way to avoid enemy fire”. That’s what it does. On PC, when hosting a match or server you can configure SMART even more by increasing slide distance and knockdown behavior. Mantling, vaulting, and walljumping can all be configured to silly extremes.

(nick1021) #4

I thought about that. You never really use those little crates as cover. You usually use walls. Seriously no point in having it.

(nick1021) #5

That’s like adding mods. Nope. That isn’t how the game is supposed to be played. Thus can’t be an example. You can defend any game like that.

Some CoD kid cries that oblivion has no guns, just say “oh but there are mods”.

Maybe you missed this link from this thread?

After watching that I realized I wasn’t exploiting the full potential of my light builds.

I know there are a lot of places you can go with wall jumping, but not many people know/use them. And most of the time they are not effective.

I think what I’m trying to say is, there should of been more parkour (wall run for a second or two, somersault) and you can combine those with other moves (like in the trailer, walljump somersault). And some places require you to string those movements (since somersaults will make you go further in mid-air).

Stuff like this worked in a game called Gunz.

It is a happy lil red star!

I definitely use the “obstacles” as cover when I can. Like all the boxes and jersey walls on CC and the couches on Aquarium. Just gotta be careful to not be holding the SMART button when getting close to the cover or else you hop over it. I usually sprint to cover, tap the crouch button to slide to the cover, then let go of the sprint/SMART button before I get to the cover. Works like a champ.

(taodemon) #10

You can wall jump off almost every wall… without SMART the game wouldn´t be nearly as interesting and there would be no purpose at all for using the light body. If you are only using SMART to hurdle over obstacles on the ground you are doing it wrong.

Jimmy James linked a good one and here are a couple older ones.

after watching that i realized i’ve underestimated the potential for having a light build. (i knew this was the case, but didn’t realize the degree to which I’d neglected said potential)

I’m talking about changing values between parameters already there, not adding new material.

Since we are talking about what we can and cannot say in regards to SMART… YOU CANNOT say there is no point in having it when plenty of people have found a point. Do you think SMART is simply walljumping? what about hanging on surface edges and climbing up? The tried and true crouch jump won’t be able to accomplish some things which SMART enables the player.

edit: I missed one of your posts… I agree with your sentiment that the system could do with a slightly more robust moveset but what there is so far is still (to me at least) very useful and in many gameplay situations, important.

(nick1021) #13

Okay lets look at it at this perspective. Would you rather they spent all that time working on SMART or would you rather they spent that time on polishing, balancing and adding more content?

Ofc there are some places where walljumps are cool and all, but they aren’t all that effective. There aren’t enough spots like that, and sometimes they are very well hidden (which is cool imo).

Okay.

Jumping. Something already there. Gravity. Something already there.

Make the jumping value super high and gravity very low. You basically have flight. Flight isn’t in the game, but it can be if you mess around with the values.

(thesuzukimethod) #16

you’re assuming it’s a zero sum game.

(nick1021) #17

Different opinions=/=troll.

(taodemon) #18

Sure it would be great if there was even more SMART moves and areas in the game but at the same time if you took away what is there it would lose a large part of its appeall.

(nick1021) #19

But there really is no point right now in have that stupid crate in the middle of the map, just so you can slide over it.

I would rather they made a class objective game that is well balanced, polished and had a lot of content then implementing some feature that is RARELY helpful and is only there to make the game feel “cool”.

Whenever I go play any other shooter now I am constantly wishing for a SMART button. It does a lot more for me than make the game seem “cool.”

As far as not having obstacles and stuff around the environments would probably still be pretty much the same w/o SMART so I guess I fail to see your point. The obstacles would remain so that the environment doesn’t look bland, empty, and boring. Apparently you think environments in shooters (even those w/o SMART) should just be completely empty buildings and wide open empty outdoor spaces…

Now that you mention it the fact the resistance’s guns are spray painted doesn’t have any impact on the game either, customization that doesn’t impact gameplay, and having different maps I mean one is good enough right?. Maybe they should have left it all out…

You seriously just look for stuff to complain about right? There are so many more legitimate complaints this is just dumb.
