Yet ANOTHER campaign problem

(kingko) #1

it makes me wonder if changing the campaign files if harder than installing the god damn game :stuck_out_tongue:

welll im about to go insane ive been working on this for hours but it just wont do [censored]all lol sooo here goes … i want to make a custom campaign for my server right … itll load the stock maps, but as soon as it hits a custom map, bang no map change and i get an error saying “Can’t find map maps/temple_final.bsp” ( which i see throuhg ssh)

( take note that the file name depends on the map im trying to load.) also im running shrub. heres my stuff:

{
name “happychicken”
shortname “cmpgn_happychicken”
description “Campaign created by Http://wolf.dehn.net/campaign.php**visit us at www.happychicken.org*Also at www.punkunbuster.com”
maps “oasis;battery;fueldump;railgun;temple_final;fun_beach_final;stargate_1945F;mml_helmsdeep_fp;venice;fueldump”
mapTC 374 374
type “wolfmp”
}

as you can see ive only edited the description from when i downloaded it from highboys. Ive checked my maps for campaign files within them , and i have delete the camapaign files in those maps that had, recompiled them to .pk3 and reuploaded them to my server etmain dir. it still wont work. same thing, for downloads im also using a http redirect if that changes anything… ppl get timed out while trying to download the maps pk3s… heard this might be becuase of a mimetype error or such?

Thanks for any help
KingKo

what might be the problem is you have to name the actual BSP file not the pk3, that might be the problem, make sure the pk3’s are in etmain rather than the MOD directory that im assuming u use etpro, every1 else dose

but unless that i cant see the problem, it dose actually load the campaign file right?

(no_shad) #3

I also assume you run etpro :banghead:

(Jimbo99) #4

That is not what his problem is. I have the same problem.

In my case I’m just trying to run a single map so I can see it run. I’m not interested in a campaign or even having it recycle (at this time). Take the example of stalingrad.pk3. I would just like to run this one file from the dedicated server. When attempting to start the map name the dedicated server states that I am missing the .bsp file in the maps directory.

If that map is renamed to stalingrad.bsp it gives a version number message. If I leave it at stalingrade.pk3 it generates a missing stalingrad.bsp file.

I have searched for days now for some information on how to put together a custom campaing (even though I am talking primarliy, atm about a single map).

I am assuming that the missing .bsp error is an error on the part of SD and that they are generating the wrong error message for the error I am receiving.

Any ideas?

My problem is EXACTLY as Jimbo puts it, even now with etpro i cant get ANY custom map loaded on my server… i get an error that loks like:

12:27:13 AM: > map venice

Can’t find map maps/venice.bsp

and im at a loss as to y (ive checked the bsps in the maps i currently have on the server… the bsp is spelled the way i wrote it)

Can any one help?

May be a silly question, but have you restarted your server since uploading the pk3’s? If not, then “/rcon quit” and try again.

General notes:
When loading a map, you must always call it by then name of the .bsp within the .pk3 file (open pk3 with winzip or similar to confirm).
If loading a single map, then ensure that g_gametype is set appropriately.
Failed http:// redirect is a tricky one to troubleshoot - you rely on all sorts of infrastructure any of which may fail… Ensure that all custom .pk3 files on your etserver are exactly duplicated on the webserver and that you have correctly specified the path to the etmain directory in your server config (and enabled web downloads of course  )

(kingko) #7

all of those have been done already. ive restarted my server multiple times, double checked all the bsp names, im geussing the g_gametype wouldnt matter considering if i give the command ‘map oasis’ it loads oasis but if i give command ‘map temple_final’ it gives me the error mentioned in my last post. its like the server chooses to ignore the maps for some odd reason…

Ex: ive cut all the custom maps i want in my campaign out of my etmain main folder ( on my pc not the server) to check if they would download properly using the http: redirect… it never actualy got around to downloading all the custom maps …

just a quick question… yesterday i was poking around and noticed 3 folders in my et pro directory, Configs , etpromapscripts, maps… is there anything i would have to add to any of those folders? could that be why my maps arent loading? cuz thier .scripts file is not in there??? i dont see why it would considering im exec the campaign in the server.cfg which is located in etmain… what do you think?

(BSDman) #8

Those folders are used to contain scripts for ETPro, Configs will contain things like a competition script, etpromapscripts contains custom scripts for maps etc etc.
Custom maps should be placed in your etmain folder, however they will work in either etmain or etpro, try doing “sv_paknames” within the console, it should give you a list of the referenced pk3 files on your server and tell you where they are.
If this is a remote server you may find that your FTP program is causing the problem, personally i had major problems with cuteFTP, it seemed to alter the pk3’s on transfer making them unusable, also take great care when zippping pk3’s if your editing or making your own campaign file, ive found that some zip/compression programs can zip a file into a format that isnt usable, best compression tool ive found has been the zip tool included with BSD.

Try testing the campaign.pk3 and the maps out on your own computer, if they dont work there, its most likely a problem with the files.

well im uploading the pk3s to my server , but using the wget command in my ssh console to get the pk3s… im also using he windows compression tool , i dont no if that one works.
im using filezila to upload them

also what is BSD??

well ill report back in after using the sv_paknames

(kingko) #10

Geuss who found out that the windows compression tool is not like by linux… so which do you all use that actualy works?

(BSDman) #11

you could try winrar, i dont know if its any good… pkzip on DOS would probably work fine, zip in linux…

(evilsock) #12

ugh - nasty. FlashFXP (even the demo version) is prolly a better ftp program to use on 'doze tbh.

Shareware winrar is fine - I ran an ET server over xmas with a custom campaign and associated pk3 files (lot of help from the guys over at trickery.net) - I used winrar to create the final pk3 file that ran on the game server without issue.

*edit - must still use a zip format in winrar
