(Mateos) #6

Right click on Computer, Properties. In the left panel, you should have something like “Peripherals administration” (From French to English, should be something like this).

Open the Graphic tab in the list, give the name here

(jonfunky) #7

Yea ave tried what u said but cant find Peripherals administration ?

(Nail) #8

click start, type dxdiag in search box hit enter, click on display tab, device is your vid

(jonfunky) #9

Yea it is a standard VGA Graphics Adapter ?

(Nail) #10

what is name and model of your computer

you could also try windows updates, that should give you a better start point

(jonfunky) #11

its a Acer pc ? yea tried updates for driver but it says its working properly

(jonfunky) #12

it says no Direct3D ? that must b the proplem ?

(reinisze) #13

i suggest you to stay away from steps 5-6. If you aren’t aware on how to figure out what graph card you have i highly doubt you’ll find the actual component inside the pc.

as soon as you find out what video card you have, go to the manufacturers’ website and download the latest drivers. If you still get the same message after installing the drivers, you’ll have to open your autoexec.cfg file and change a few lines. To do so, follow this custom resolution generator:

http://jason.sites.amoebaos.com/etres/

if any of the steps above doesn’t help either your video card doesn’t support opengl (which these days is almost impossible) or you haven’t done something right.

(jonfunky) #14

Yea thanks for your answers but tried them links and got information about pc but it said same VGA adapter ? just might get a graphics card and try that so thanks again for information

(jonfunky) #15

So right as u know know nothing about pc games just wana make W. E. T run so if get a graphics card whould that solve proplem with Open GL Subsystem ?

(stealth6) #16

No.

From my understanding you are using a laptop. Laptop is like a computer, but you can carry it around (it’s not a box under your desk connected to a screen). Inside your laptop there are lots of electrical wires and electronic stuff working together so you can see stuff on your screen.
One of these components is a graphics card it can either be part of your motherboard (in which case it’s called onboard) or it can be a seperate piece. I wouldn’t worry wbout which you have, if you are reading this right now on your laptop, then it’s working.

It’s not only electronics making it work, you also require some software to turn the 0 and 1’s flying around in your computer into stuff you can actually understand. This software is called drivers. Each component in your computer (motherboard, sound card, graphics card) requires drivers to work. The current error you are experiencing when you try to run Wolfenstein: enemy territory is generally caused by having outdated drivers or something wrong with the driver software.

Now comes the tricky part, in order to fix this problem you need to fix or update your graphics card drivers. Each graphics card has different drivers and if you install the wrong one then your windows might not like that causing your screen to turn blue (and become rather unresponsive). In order to install the correct drivers you need to figure out which which graphics card is in your computer. This is what the people in this thread have been trying to do (tell you various methods to discover which graphics card you have)

Once you’ve figured that out you just have to google “<insert graphics card name> drivers download”, then download and install the drivers. This should fix your problem.

If you buy a new graphics card you’re probably going to have a hard time inserting it into your laptop since it might not fit. Generally people don’t replace the graphics card in their laptop only the RAM (Random access memory - the temporary memory in your computer) or their hard drive disk (long term memory of your computer) since these components are easier to replace.

If you’re trying to figure out which graphics card you have it’s generally something that contains the word Nvidea, ATI, Radeon or Intel followed by some numbers and or letters.

Good Luck!

Yea ave not got a laptop its pc . Of course ave said name of Graphics card its standard VGA Graphics Adapter that’s what it says wen tap on driver name . But ave tried to update it and it says its already updated ? . So ave searched for it but cant find site for it to update that name of VGA Adapter ?

(Mustang) #18

VGA Graphics Adapter is not the make and model of your graphics card/chip, it just means that you’re using the operating system built-in driver.

You need to find the make and model of your graphics card/chip and then download the drivers for it.

As Nail eluded the easiest way for us (we are not sat at your computer) to find out this is to Google the make and model of your PC.

“its a Acer pc ?” does not tell us the model number.

(Petbark) #19

Is the monitor plug in near where the keyboard , mouse etc is (motherboard). Or is it plunged in away from that area and on its own board(dedicated).

If on board the graphic chip set will be either nvidia, amd or intel.
If dedicated it will be more than likely either nvidia or amd.

If you goto http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk and look for option 2 and click on graphic card. Follow it through and if it is nvidia it could detect it for you.

Or look on the label of the PC and find the model number.

Might be a simpler answer than suggested above. I had that error message when I had screen resolution set wrong. Try putting this in your autoexec.cfg

seta r_customheight “900”
seta r_customwidth “1600”

Change the values to what the size of your screen is.

IDK if it will work for you, but it did for me in a similar situation!
