Yahtzee Reviews Brink

(Azev2000) #1

Well IMO he is dead on and as usual brutally honest.

(Rubbaduren) #2

lol. Trying to hard to be the “brutaly honest” doctor guy from Scrubs :stuck_out_tongue:

(tokamak) #3

Frankly I think he put it well. SD said they learned a lot from ETQW to make Brink but I think they can draw far more lessons out of Brink.

(Dopaminergic) #4

I would’ve liked to see him go even more in depth, just totally rip Brink apart for each and every last one of it’s shortcomings. I guess he couldn’t be bothered to keep playing such a bad game, though.

(howie) #5

Of all the valid criticisms I could lay at Brink’s door - and there are fair a few - Yahtzee manages to miss out on all but one - the magic one button does all key. Otherwise he waffles on as usual. I know it’s all meant to be in jest, which is why his ‘reviews’ always need the inverted commas and often labour on petty points, but for someone who’s meant to champion PC games he often comes across as a bit of a nub.

(Rubbaduren) #6

I get why people complain about this game. Unless you think the gameplay is cool, the shortcomings as a shooter, and not as a teamgame as a whole, you will get disappointed. I think thats the reason for the bad reviews.

(Smokeskin) #7

I have watched a lot of yahtzee, and he is practically never dead on. He isn’t even pretending to be a reviewer. He’s an entertainer. He is very, very funny, and I laughed several times during this - like stand up comedy, he has a good eye for details and aspects that you can flip around and make funny.

Anyways, very funny, but not really to be taken seriously. There are plenty of reviews out there who already, all combined, give an accurate picture of Brink - for those who like this type of game, it is awesome, for others it will feel wrong.

And I think it is absolutely hilarious that he talks about TF2 that way, in my mind Brink is much better looking, the gameplay is a lot better, and it is a lot more fun.

(Azev2000) #8

The reason for the bad reviews is because its a bad game. It lacks polish, content, and any need for a brain.

Brink: Where one button shall rule them all

(Rubbaduren) #9

I’d like to hear from someone who did the shots! :stuck_out_tongue:

@azev: Why should there be more buttons for the functions? What would you like to change? The use button should imo stay as a use button. Or do you want to hack swordfish (the movie) style, making operatives for the quickfingers? Could perhaps not have a SMART easymode button. Making the jumps, slides, and vaults fully intentional.

(weeschwee) #10

seriously? most of his “review” is just for entertainment purposes. he spits out random crap and exaggerates to get laughs. he draws on minor flaws and makes them into huge bullet points for his comedy sketch. his videos are fun to watch, but nobody should rely on them for an accurate description of the game. and what the heck is wrong with first person parkour? his review is about as reliable as ign’s (take a shot).

(system) #11

So let me get this ‘from a guy who plays allot of TF2’, when actually he doesn’t play multiplayer games. Give me a break, that idiot sucks on Valve’s penis everytime he gets a chance, and if he doesn’t, he sucks it anyway. Look out for when Dota 2 will come out, Zero punctuation will find it to be better than Jesus.

I’d really love to see Yahtzee develop a game sometime, a real game, not that stupid crap ‘art of theft’ that is the perfect example of how not to do a game.

(vbl) #12

It’s clear he didn’t play it much. Most of us can produce a far more descriptive and compelling list of problems with Brink, and it’s that laundry list that matters when deciding to buy the game or not.

The game is broken in a lot of ways but I don’t think he earned the right to bash it. Fairly certain he didn’t even pony up the money to buy it in the first place.

SLhafajghej jadhad* fha* now u heard from me . lol

I thought he kept complaining about games without a health bar, i thought he would like that feature in retrospect he does not.

Are you trying to say that Valve making high quality, enjoyable games isn’t worthy of praise?

(SphereCow) #16

His review was accurate, I think, save for the stupid comparisons to TF2, and the god damn description of parkour, as something that’s supposed to be like Mirror’s Edge. The game isn’t about wall jumping, sliding, and grabbing ledges. Those are just a vehicle.

(Revan619) #17

all I got from this review was, im bad at fps, I cant handle free running and im too lazy to listen to the tutorial to realise how to change and customise guns; just like resident evil 5 where he didnt read the manual so didnt know how to make the AI switch from a pistol.

A lot of his points are spot on, but there is a difference from being honest and butt hurt because your bad at the game.

(Smokeskin) #18

Yeah, I thought I heard him say that before too, but I figured I must be remembering wrong when he said he played lots of TF2. He doesn’t play multiplayer games, and has really ****ty reactions, something like that?

(Dopaminergic) #19

At least he was able to play the game.

I’ve payed $50 for a game that I can only play in 20 minute segments before an OpenGL crash occurs since I’m using nVidia cards, whose name is effing plastered all over this game!

(tokamak) #20

TF2 however is about the only multiplayer game he ever praised.

But of course, TF2 doesn’t nearly touch upon the depth you find in Brink. It’s just waaaay more polished so on the surface it looks better. Brink is in essence better but oh the presentation is so crap.
