This may be kind of off-topic, but since it’s used for ET I thought I’d post it anyway
I just noticed that All Seeing Eye was bought by Yahoo, who updated it and replaced the logo. So what do you think about this ? Good ? Bad ? (The purchase, not the logo…)
I’m not sure yet but my immediate first thought is that the nice little eye in the pyramid seems replaced with a Yahoo logo… :twak:
Why one of the reasons for me using ASE instead of other browsers was its nice little logo…
Well I must give them the credit that refreshing the entire list of servers now works much smoother, but it still disconnects mIRC, just like every previous version
Had it not been for me having a lifetime license I would probly have switched a long time ago, but I may still get the chance, one never knows how long a lifetime actually is whenever a new owner steps in
just a bit miffed my lifetime paid-for version has a fucking advert on it, and concerned how they might mess with it in future, i.e. “integrate” it to their “gaming platform” or with messenger or whatever. Also i wonder if other devs/publishers will be in as much of a hurry to support a yahoo gamesbrowser as they were a independent one.
All i want of it is for it to be updated to support new games.
I have to admit it a bit of a surprise to see yahoo buying that i hope they dont try and turn it into a gamepsy browser… why does part of me think they will?
It better not affect the lifetime membership is my 2nd concern.
tho i use xfire mostly these days ASE is by far the best server broswer out there

<Comp reads:> Welcome to Yahpoo’s Eye that sees all and invades your computer slightly less than AOL. We will be gathering information whether you like it or not and then selling the statistics while we monitor all in game activity. Soon, we hope to merge with STEAM and then call ourselves “Steaming pile of Yahpoo!”. We hope to ruin every gamers experience in full spectrum.

I am Patrick Ford, Director of Video Game Products at Yahoo! To answer your question, we plan to continue to support and enhance The All-Seeing Eye and to also integrate ASE technology into our other products such as Yahoo! Messenger. As the GameSpot article says, we plan to invest heavily in the coming year on video game related services and welcome suggestions from the ASE community.
Looks like they wanna compete with xfire…
We respect the ASE audience and will not ruin the program that so many gamers have come to rely on. What ASE gains is more development resources and customer support. We know why gamers prefer ASE over the other browser and plan to keep providing what our users want.
After reading through all the postings since yesterday, we are currently working on making a couple of changes to the ASE client that seem to upset the majority of those who posted.
The Y! icon in the upper left corner of the application and that appears in the task bar will be replaced with the ASE icon. You can see a what this icon looks like by minimizing ASE and looking in the System tray area.
The sponsored by logo will be removed for those people who have registered (lifetime or annual). Naturally if you have an annual license, once a year has passed the logo will reappear unless your license is renewed.
Why we’re making this change: In reading all of the posts, it was not threats of lawsuits, petitions, or even the number of those who complained that convinced me to make this change.
It was StonerPimp’s initial posting (http://www.udpsoft.com/forum/topic.cgi?forum=1&topic=2438) where he talked about not just that he didn’t like the logo, but also talked about the time he had spent customizing his desktop and the ASE layout and how the logo had affected his work.
Timing: We’re working on the new build now and will post it on the scanners as soon as we have a chance to test it. We should be able to have it posted sometime on Wednesday.
One more thing… Thanks StonerPimp!

Guess all we can do is wait and see if and how it gets messed up.
Well, at least they implemented one feature I hadn’t seen before, the ability to customize the toolbar and remove unnecessary icons. And removed the ad for the registered version. Looking good so far

So they make changes based on trivial reasons, rather than because of the wishes of the vast majority of the product’s users?
