I think people who repair while others are repairing should be insta-gibbed with an large red text blinking like the old HTML days: “Staph, just staph! Start defending your team during repairs!”.

It would be funny if you could help team mate and increace repair/disarm speed by 20% per player…but have 30% chance (every second) for each player to “mess” something and delay repair/disarm instead.

Overtime, C4 80% defused, people rush for it, 30% chance works in last second and Boom! Jakal screams: “Learn how to communicate, you foul language

But seriously this is annoying when you do objective as engineer and have 1-2 players “helping” you… and than you all get melee killed.

There needs to be a better notification that somebody is already repairing.

Also does engineer augment allow you to take over the engineering process from someone without it? I never could.

Nah, even with mechanic perk, player who was repairing before you still keeps repairing even when you have that perk and he doesnt. The worst thing is, when I play bushwanker and repair EV and another proxy tries to repair as well. One time we were 4 engies repairing at same time.

Situation #1: Teammate is repairing already (and is either using same tool as you or better) -> Bold text display flashing red “CANNOT REPAIR”. Instant visual feedback with use of red text to indicate that you would be better off doing something else to help teammates.

Situation #2: You are already repairing and an player with higher precedence starts to repair (i.e. engineer or player with mechanic perk) -> Bold text display flashing red “NO LONGER REPAIRING”. Same form of instant visual feedback with use of colour to show that you are no longer helping repairing, so go and help your team with some covering fire or other support.

The most important factor is that the player receives a clear visual prompt to indicate that what they are doing is not in their best interests, as the current display does not have enough contrast compared with the ‘repairing’ prompt.

Messages are wrong way to make a decent fluent gameplay.

Sky is rapairing EV. Proxy start repair - Message appears. Sky stops repair.
Proxy is killed in half a second. SO noone repairs the EV. Including Skyhammer.

Did that message help the team?

Should we ask for another message to Skyhammer “Yo, man…there is a slight problem with that Proxy girl, that we messaged you about a second ago…well…the thing is she is dead now, would you mind starting repair again??”

the Only Real solution, that keeps the gameplay fluent (and adds a lot of deepness to the game) is Multirepair/Multidefuse.

I would rather have a clueless Sky guarding a dead proxy and maybe noticing that they are dead after the threat that killed them is dealt with than 3-4 people all trying to defuse as an frag grenade comes in and blows all of them up because they were too busy staring at a repair bar.

And we already have multi-repair. Do you mean that repair/defuse should speed up based on people helping? I’m confused by this.

i was joking about second message, was trying to be sarcastic.

what i realy mean and i am serious now is that.

1 Proxy + 1 Skyhammer SHOULD repair faster than 1 Proxy. Slightly faster, but faster.

So that Skyhammer is not a Dummy, that is pointed what he must do. Skyhammer Has a choice - to help Proxy to Repair OR to Help in other way and to Cover Proxy.
And Skyhammer’s decicion on weather Cover or Repair will be based on the danger and timing. And not on bad game design choices.

Except you forgot it has to be a clear message.

“CANNOT REPAIR” and “NO LONGER REPAIRING” will just prompt people to ask, why can’t I repair? Or think the game is bugging out causing the repair to quit. lol

@SnakekillerX I was merely providing examples of the kind of message, but I understand the wording could be clearer (Was just attempting to keep the message concise to avoid onscreen clutter). The main point is that there has to be a distinct visual difference between the messages to help players recognise faster that they aren’t repairing.

But that scenario still creates the same issue we deal with on public servers. In a perfect world nobody would try to defuse while an engineer is on it but we don’t live in that world. In fact, we live in a world where most pub players are going to also try to “help” defuse which then causes you to lose because it wasn’t made apparent to them that another class (or somebody with the Mechanic perk) is already on the job.

I agree that it would be nice to have the choice to help the proxy repair with the sky or to cover them, which would work out for player’s like ourselves. But in a typical pub scenario, as has been proven by nearly a year of play, people will almost always try to help a defuse in situations where they could have won or had a better chance of winning had they not.

What you want would make the game a bit deeper and a bit more interesting on a choice level but it also makes the game worse, IMO, on a practical level as witnessed by a years worth of experiences to the point of it becoming a meme that practically everyone agrees with.

Best way to teach new players that they can’t repair while another teammate is repairing is to simply tell them in the tutorial.
