People just don’t get the Teammate Reparing message. It happens almost every game I play on an EV map that I am repairing with my engineer and at least one other player with a non-engineer starts to repair as well. And I am not talking about level 5 players I talk about level 12 and sometimes higher. The result, somebody flanks us and we both die. I think with an XP penalty people will finally understand that they are doing something wrong. The penalty doesnt have to kick in immediately. Sometimes you just dont see the other guy. Maybe after 1 second or something. I am not talking about a huge penalty, just 5 xp points every half second together with the Teammate Repairing message. This way people will learn, that this message is a warning and not an encouragement.
XP Penalty for Teammate Repairing Message
I think they should have a display message for people who aren’t supposed to be repairing but are saying, “STOP F**KING REPAIRING, YO TEAMMATE ALREADY GOT THAT SH*T DONE, NOW TURN YO A$$ AROUND AND COVER THEM, capesh?”
They should obviously be executed on the spot the second they try to repair. Filthy casual plebs.
It would just be much more simple to make the text displayed way less confusing. “Teammate repairing” does not explain anything. Just replace it by “Teammate repairing : cover him !”.
Am I the only one that thinks if someone tries to “help” repairing, when a team-mate already is, that it should start playing the Phantom cloak sound suddenly getting closer and closer?
That would be hilarious.
Instead of punishing players I would rather disable the progress bar that tells you “team mate repairing”. Instead I would put just the message itself. Why is that progress bar even showing? It is confusing even though it says “team mate repairing”.
I’d say the message should be clearer, and there should be exp bonuses for defending an objective specialist while they’re at work.
I think just changing the message or remove the progress bar won’t cut it, because your approaches underestimate the degree of stupidity we are dealing with. Just an example:
I (bushwhacker) am repairing the EV. A fragger comes along starts repairing too. We both die.
Me: “Don’t repair, when there is already an engineer repairing. Cover him instead.”
He: “But I am an engineer.”
Me: “No, you are a fragger.”
He: “Yes, but after respawn I will change to proxy.”
Do you think someone that stupid will be stopped by a missing progress bar?
Man, this should of been done ages ago, but if an engineer takes over the repair, you should automatically have your gun back out and not even have the prompt to repair.
I agree with this, if EV is already being repaired, don’t show any interactive things except “Already being repaired”
and put a ‘no way’ roadsign in their face, so its absolutely clear they are not doing anything at all.
People that repair while repair is already done, will not notice the penalty in the first place.

How so?

if they are clueless about a basic game mechanic, they are very likely to be clueless about the penalty, not to mention why the penalty is given in the first place. How would you frame the penalty?
‘Overzealous repair - 10 game xp’ ?

They would see the penalty on-screen like they see an XP bonus. I guess a few of us had known that there is a bonus for sticking together if it werent for the display on screen.
As it is obvious, I am not native speaker so I am not the right person to come up with a name for what should be displayed. Something along the line of “endangering the objective specialist: -5xp”
I am also not set on the penalty. I just want that this shit stops. I would also be fine with there being a real priority setting:
pliers < pliers + mechanic perk < torch
And if there is someone with a higher repair tier already repairing your repair tool just wouldn’t interact. If someone with a higher repair tier starts to repair your repair tool stops interacting. And this together with a way clearer message as the current one.
You are already screwed if a player can’t even read a message properly.
It’s not hidden at all and right in the middle of the screen (it could be bigger/red) but if they can’t catch the hint, they are just unaware of the game environment. Don’t expect them to give ammo or revive too.
Giving a penalty? They won’t notice it either and I doubt SD/Nexon is going to do something so “noob” unfriendly.
imho. they should return to multirepair/multi defuse technique
current mechinics is basically over-complication of a very simple and natural and intuitive thing:
2 persons realy should repair/defuse faster.
^this is intuitive too all new-comers, unlike what we have now.
let alone the fact, that with re-introduction of multi defuse the Game will become deeper. Because teams would get some new tactics, that are currently unavailable. i am speaking about adrenaline-filled rush tactics, where teams of 5 Proxies can defuse bomb in 1 second, or repair EV in 2 seconds. One might say whats the difference 5 seconds or 1 second. Well the answer is as follows: the less seconds it takes to make an object, the more edgy the game will be. the stakes will be higher.
This is Stopwatch mode - we need those seconds to matter!!

But “teammate is repairing” or whatever it is saying atm is not giving you any real information. Just that somebody is already repairing. Lot of people think: “cool, a teammate is already repairing. So it’s 2 of us. Now it will go twice as fast.”
@Kelben
Maybe because I know how it works, the message is pretty clear to me.
Then they should probably edit it to “Already being repaired” (still confusing maybe) or simply “You can’t repair the EV now”.
A longer message would definitely be more explicit.
“Teammate repairing, cover him!”
“Don’t repair EV while someone is repairing”
“You aren’t repairing EV”
“You shall go fight there while teammate is repairing”
“EV is already being repaired”
“COVER THE TEAM!”
…
And so on…
IMO, everything is better than: “Teammate repairing”
Altough you can find out that you aren’t helping the repairing of EV, new players will mostly be like: “Teammate repairing? Ok, so what… I am helping him repair now too!”
