Xgincode violating several EU laws on privacy.

(JonesyIrl) #21

Can we please get back on topic…

(cornJester) #22

We’re barely off of it. It’s not like we started talking about cats. This issue surrounding the anti cheat is about privacy and that is what is being discussed. For now I am not upset and will keep playing.

(Runeforce) #23

If you really care, stop using proprietary software. If you use it, you are already flipping the bird on your privacy.

It is laughable, really, if you run around with a smartphone or use a credit card (or use Facebook, Google, run MS Windows, use antivirus or Steam. I could go on about proprietary menaces. Or if you agitate for another ‘anti-cheat’ solution,) yet complain about XIGNCODE3 violating your privacy. Get real!

(Borganism) #24

For all those people upset about a program that scans some files on your computer, dont you also have an antivirus program that you deliberately let scan every single one of your files and have access to everything you do on your machine? Why do you explicitly trust the anti virus, yet completely distrust xign.
Even those who are super concerned about their privacy and dont run facebook all use some form of virus control. Has there ever been a breach on xigns servers? (legit question, i dont actually know) or have they ever been found to do anything wrong aside from looking for cheats and having to look at everyone?

There’s a big difference between scanning for things that match something in a local database and scanning->logging->uploading. Also most of these anti-viruses are far more trust worthy than Xigncode, which seems very dodgy to me.

The point is its breaking EU law.

(zealousHumdinger) #27

Hm now I’m worried. During gaming, I also browse the webz, chat my gf, watch stuff etc etc… does this mean all this data is sent to their servers? If true, this sucks. Have to re-think about this game then

@MissMurder any info from your side on this please?

It’s very likely not sending your chats with your girlfriend.

(Ghosthree3) #29

It logs all the keystrokes, but I doubt anyone actually reads that, it’s looking for patterns.

(Akselmo) #30

Why do you close the door when you go to bathroom? What, you got something to hide? You planning to overtake the world there!?

Anyway, I’m concerned. Really fricking concerned. I hope they can find some way to fix the situation or just find a better damn anticheat, Xigncode is fricking terrible anyway.

I’m a fucking idiot

(Runeforce) #31

Still I can not help but laugh at these concerns. Not that I don’t care about my privacy, I do. I am the kind of guy that does not have a mobile phone, I do not use credit card (in general, only for online transactions,) and I have an isolated gaming computer. Have you guys ever read an EULA? How about the Microsoft EULA? Or the Norton or AVG Antivirus EULA? Or an Apple Itunes EULA? Or one of the worse, the Steam (and VAC) EULA?I am the kind of guy that actually reads those kind of things, and I can tell you that the XIGNCODE3 EULA is nothing compared to those other things in regards to privacy invasion.

If it stood with me, all ‘anti-cheat’ should be dropped and it should be up to the community to monitor hackers.

(Ghosthree3) #32

Yes, because other companies do it worse it justifies it in this case, thank you for opening our eyes.

(wittyChicken) #33

Which laws they are breaking?

EU Data Protection Directive:
Under the Data Protection Directive, collecting and processing the personal data of individuals is only legitimate in one of the following circumstances laid down by Article 7 of the Directive:

Where the individual concerned, (the ‘data subject’), has unambiguously given his or her consent, after being adequately informed; or

if data processing is needed for a contract, for example, for billing, a job application or a loan request; or

if processing is required by a legal obligation; or

if processing is necessary in order to protect the vital interest of the data subject, for example, processing of medical data of a victim of a car accident; or

if processing is necessary to perform tasks of public interests or tasks carried out by government, tax authorities, the police or other public bodies; or

if the data controller or a third party has a legitimate interest in doing so, as long as this interest does not affect the interests of the data subject, or infringe on his or her fundamental rights, in particular the right to privacy. This provision establishes the need to strike a reasonable balance between the data controllers’ business interests and the privacy of data subjects.
If the program works as they (Nexon) claim* I see nothing wrong with what they are doing.

Collecting data to detect a hack: Check
Storing chat logs in case there is abuse: Check
Terms have been available before obtaining the license to play the game: Check

*
IN THE EVENT THAT THE SOFTWARE DETECTS AN UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM, THE GAME MAY COMMUNICATE INFORMATION BACK TO NEXON AMERICA, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION YOUR ACCOUNT NAME, DETAILS ABOUT THE UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTY PROGRAM DETECTED, AND THE TIME AND DATE
I already stated in my first post, that if you truly care about your privacy, you should not be using proprietary software in the first place. And if you do, take your precautions!
To me, this hate against XIGNCODE3 is laughable, because every alternative (in regards to privacy) is just as bad, or worse. It’s FUD, pure and simple!

(Ghosthree3) #35

What on earth makes you think this needs to be client side. It’s not even used for that anyway, it can’t know where you’re typing. The chatlogs are server side, jesus christ.

(Yes) #36
This person described this situation how I would’ve adressed it.
I’m probably going to get downvoted into oblivion for saying this, but I feel it needs to be said.

Everyone needs to chill the fuck out. Do you honestly believe that Splash Damage, Nexon, or whoever designed Xigncode give a flying fuck what’s on your PC that doesn’t pertain to hacking? How deluded and narcissistic do you have to be to think anyone on this planet cares what is on your computer.

All anti-cheat programs have to scan you for third party programs. That’s just how they work. Splash Damage isn’t pulling the dick pics you sent to your ex-girlfiend on new years eve 2009 and posting them on some forum.

Privacy is good, but at what cost? You’ll just never play online games? There was a big stink a while back about VAC (the same fucking anti-cheat multiple people in this thread are begging for) looking through files or some such bullshit and people started screaming “Muh privacy!!!”. This, I would be willing to bet, is the very same overblown nonsense that only hyper-paranoid conspiracy theorists buy into. Not me.

Dirty Bomb is fun, and if Splash Damage wants to look through my dick pics as payment for this great game, that’s fine by me. It’s honestly not that impressive, so I’m getting a good deal.

Tldr: Nobody gives a shit what’s on your PC unless it’s child porn or a terrorist plot.
And this more importantly
xigncode3 opens and closes with the game, by wich i assume it is compleatly bounded to the game, wich can be proven by cheking youre task mengaer both when the game is open and when it isnt… and the fact when you open 2nd instance of DB xigncode runs again (considering how dumb that thing it will probably ban you for it)
I’m more concerned about facebook stealing my information then a (although defunct) anti cheat program…
Completely agree, I highly doubt that anyone had malicious intent.

(Runeforce) #37

You choose to distrust XIGNCODE3, like you choose to trust Steam or your antivirus software, on no rational grounds, really.

(insightfulHelicopter) #38

Because we don’t want to be seen naked by another human beeing. Here we’re talking about algorithms cheking for patterns, can’t you make the difference?

Computers are tools for humans. Didn’t you know?

It would be awesome to get rid of the ‘anti-cheat’ business altogether. Let the community police itself, I say!
