Xgincode violating several EU laws on privacy.

(JonesyIrl) #1

/r/DirtyBomb is on fire right now, with a post about Xgincode’s alleged breaking of EU Laws on privacy. Here.Could we get an official response to these accusations? The thread seems divided as to how users feel, what will come of this, and how it is happening.
As a massive fan of this game (favourite game at the moment, putting over 50 hours in the space of a week) an official response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Edit; Here is an old reddit post and a comment that caught my eye.

(Rjsto) #2

Well dammit. I hope someone can prove this not to be true. It’s up there as one my fav games at the moment already, but if xgincode really is following all my moves while playing then yeah, not gonna have that

(srswizard) #3

They raise some good points, such as the fact that xigncode isn’t even stopping the cheaters, at all, and that thing about Chivalry using VAC, so why isn’t DB?
All we get from the devs is “we’re working on something”, but no details.

(Ghosthree3) #4

Almost like I mentioned this beforee…

At least it might actually get some attention now. Scanning my porn collection is not ok! Not that it’ll ever finish scanning in a single session.

Sad thing is hey are losing players 5,513 people are subscribed to that subreddit, all 5.5k have the potential to view, and uninstall… That scares me most.

As far as I know, scanning your recently modified files is something that all anticheat system does.

Mind to explain how it is a threat to my privacy ?

(dynamicOctagon) #7

This person described this situation how I would’ve adressed it.
I’m probably going to get downvoted into oblivion for saying this, but I feel it needs to be said.

Everyone needs to chill the fuck out. Do you honestly believe that Splash Damage, Nexon, or whoever designed Xigncode give a flying fuck what’s on your PC that doesn’t pertain to hacking? How deluded and narcissistic do you have to be to think anyone on this planet cares what is on your computer.

All anti-cheat programs have to scan you for third party programs. That’s just how they work. Splash Damage isn’t pulling the dick pics you sent to your ex-girlfiend on new years eve 2009 and posting them on some forum.

Privacy is good, but at what cost? You’ll just never play online games? There was a big stink a while back about VAC (the same fucking anti-cheat multiple people in this thread are begging for) looking through files or some such bullshit and people started screaming “Muh privacy!!!”. This, I would be willing to bet, is the very same overblown nonsense that only hyper-paranoid conspiracy theorists buy into. Not me.

Dirty Bomb is fun, and if Splash Damage wants to look through my dick pics as payment for this great game, that’s fine by me. It’s honestly not that impressive, so I’m getting a good deal.

Tldr: Nobody gives a shit what’s on your PC unless it’s child porn or a terrorist plot.
And this more importantly
xigncode3 opens and closes with the game, by wich i assume it is compleatly bounded to the game, wich can be proven by cheking youre task mengaer both when the game is open and when it isnt… and the fact when you open 2nd instance of DB xigncode runs again (considering how dumb that thing it will probably ban you for it)
I’m more concerned about facebook stealing my information then a (although defunct) anti cheat program…

You can read up on it here, or just read through the comments in the reddit thread.

Well I believe it was explained somewhere that it makes logs of what it scans then uploads them. It doesn’t send what’s in files, obviously it couldn’t, it’d be far too large. But it sends all the file names and directories.

EDIT: If it only scanned, and closed the game if it found cheats, that’d be fine. I just don’t like it sending back data.

Although, raping my disks by reading them non stop is pretty lame.

(Aazhyd) #10

You realize that DB is not the only game that uses Xigncode 3? There are tons of games that have been using it for years, like Alliance of Valiant Arms.

And why’s that such a huge bother? You realise that websites have been doing that since the Patriot act back in 2002?

Facebook, twitter, Instagram, your local news website…

Even if it is foreign, chances are it’s hosted on an US server… Which makes them completely viable to check your info since it passes US datatrafick. This program checks your files. So what. Have anything to hide?

(lavaJukebox) #12

Nexon has been in-trouble for this before, with a few other games. They lost a few court-cases, I am sure they learned and are not violating anything.

Don’t be upset if you have nothing to hide is such a terrible excuse. Now personally I’m not going to get up in arms yet over this, not just yet. However the nothing to hide excuse is always used when our privacy is breached. Taking away our right to privacy bit by bit but so what? We have nothing to hide. Why shouldn’t we be monitored constantly in our daily lives? You aren’t doing anything wrong are you?

In 10 years people will be perfectly fine with being forced to use their real life identity online.

Excuse of what? I’m not excusing myself for anything.

If you freedom of privacy hippies are so protective over your private information, then move to a desolate island without internet. I’ll be booking a one way boat just for the occasion.

But first, i need your Name, adress, next of kin, your current occupation and your bank data so we can arrange the deal.

So eager to give away your rights. Shame that. If you have to be a hippy to enjoy your privacy then so be it, I’m a hippy. Also you can make excuses for others, which is what that is.

It’s quuuite a different thing when country/bank/social services/whatever officials know your private info, compared to some random anticheat system :o

I’m not eager to give away my rights, however there is a difference between nitpicking and actually beeing violated.

You have facebook? You know that facebook sells your private information and YOU have NOTHING to say about it? THAT is violation of your privacy. What this anti cheat program may send to someone else is just your directories, seeing what programs you have installed and what not to check if you’re a hacker or not. That’s it.

Who says I have nothing to say about it? I don’t use facebook at all, despise the site. I also believe I said I wasn’t going to get up in arms about this anti cheat just yet. What I was against was your attitude in that post, the excuse of don’t worry about it if you have nothing to hide.

(Ghosthree3) #20

This can be blocked, and just because they do that doesn’t make it ok.

Don’t use them. They’re the biggest fuck up of the modern era.

Hardly the point.
