Xbox360 community shrinking

(DazTroyer) #1

Played this last night for about six hours and came across the same gamer tags all night. Some would leave or I would join new games and come across them again later. Seems to me that a lot didn’t buy it or have traded it for LA Noire or the soon to be released Dirt 3.

Also if you try and play Stop Watch youve got no chance of filling a game even 5 vs 5. It’s probably the fairest game mode to play as both teams get a chance to attack/defend.

One good thing, I guess, is that most seemed to know what they were doing. Although why do some refuse to swap from their high ranked character to one that can complete the objective? Left me doing all the donkey work lol.

Think the damage is done might get a resurgence in a few weeks when all the used copies are repurchased and hopefully they will be playing an ok game and stick around

If update works il be telling my mates to pick up a copy, been telling them to avoid it up till now.

I really hate the fact that nobody plays stopwatch, it should definitely be the default mode (at least in the competitive & old school playlists or something).

Firstly, because it’s much more balanced and fair than vanilla objective mode, which allows the match result to more accurately reflect which was the better team. Secondly, because sometimes it feels like I never get to play certain factions on certain maps (I dream one day of playing a full match of Aquarium as Security in 8v8). Thirdly, it’s a much more thrilling and tense mode as the first attackers are racing to set as fast a time as possible and then the second attackers have to beat that time, and it’s very interesting to compare how the two teams approach objectives differently. Finally, because it simply feels like the way ET-like games should be played.

+1 (on PS3 too)

Totally agree fella, it would be nice if SD updated the 5 vs 5 competition mode to be stop watch only. More players would try it then.

I think this is also in part due to the lack of lobbies and poor matchmaking.

If I leave a game because its laggy but still want to play the same map it automatically puts me back into the same game. The only option is to wait it out or to play a different map.

With a lobby system we might actually stand some chance of seeing who is in the match before we play it [to check that we don’t go back into the same game].

The whole matchmaking is just terrible unfortunately. There is also a massive lack of community online.

This is not to say I don’t enjoy the few lag free games that I get, but games are almost never full which I believe is due to the terrible matchmaking.

Also - regarding the point about about people not changing class - I completely agree that almost no one does it. It means that whenever there is a hacking objective they are almost impossible to do - even at the best of times they are hard - but you need to have a team of operatives rather than just 1!

Also agree with the fact that competitive should be stopwatch mode by default. There’s nothing competitive about teams not having an equal chance to complete the objectives from either team.

This is probably what I find most annoying, if I’m trying to find a match without lag or a match with space for my friends, the last thing I want is to be put into the same match several times in a row!

Another advantage of prematch lobbies would be that the game can pick the best host for all the players at the beginning, minimising the lag for everybody and increasing the chance that they won’t immediately quit out to find another match with less lag.

Exactly.

It is unnecessarily difficult to join a public game with a group of friends. It’s only by virtue of the community being so small that it’s even vaguely possible.

There should definitely be some way of creating a fireteam external to a match.

Completely agree. To the PC users - on the xbox we cannot chose the server that we join. We are stuck with it.

I see what splash damage were trying to do with their ‘innovative’ lobby system (which, in fairness, it is) but it just doesn’t translate well to consoles. In fact, its actually almost more of a hindrance. Loading up the game to then find out that we can’t join our mates or they can’t join us just doesn’t work. It should all take place from the menus before any map loading takes place

If they patch it up to the performance and visual quality of the PS3 version I might buy it back to see if it helps but I’m really glad to not have this thing in my house.

Let’s be honest, the game is DEAD on 360, and nothing ,that Spash Damage do, will bring more people in.
Hell, next month, in June, there’s going to be a crapload of games and everyone will have forgot about Brink.
This game has bombed, not in sales, but in trying to have a good playerbase.

You’re getting matched up with people with a better connection usually that’s why you’re seeing the same gamertags. They probably live close enough that you all connect well and you keep ending up with them. You know you can prefer not to play with someone who plays the game like an idiot. There are plenty of people that call me a cheater because I kill them 9 times out of 10 so I tell them to hit the avoid button if they can’t handle it.

(X Trigger I) #13

I think people are playing online co-op instead to avoid the lag.

(Bakercompany) #14

I think this game will have a much better chance at survival in a month or so once everything is ironed out.

Fix the lag, maybe throw in some lobbies (pretty please?) and people will flock back to this game. Maybe not to the degree of the big name shooters, but it will maintain a decent fanbase once the kinks are ironed out.

Its not a bad game at all. Just not what most were expecting. I still have fun though.

If you want someone on XBL who mic’s up usually and will focus on the team, add Bakercompany86. I haven’t traded it yet and probably won’t to be honest. Going to hold out for this DLC.

Its the opposite that is true for me: the community is growing. I am entering Big Team matches with 12-16 players lately. On a side Note: I noticed the matchmaking system in Brink rewards you with fuller rooms when you start making Brink friends. I have added about 10 Brink players to my friend’s list and this has increased my chances of playing in full rooms. I liken Brink to the first Gears of War lobby where you had to really build up your friends lists and also join rooms that are in progress. As you get warmed up and continue to play, the room begins to fill up as long as you hang around. Similarly to Gears of War, I’ve also noticed that if you join a laggy room and wait it out patiently, the laggy connection will sort itself out by either the player causing it will leave or the host will migrate. Brink really gets me back to those early days of xbox live and Gears of War where you communicated with other random people unlike in many games nowadays where nobody talks.

(H3LLS1) #16

really? except for my friends…i have not seen a single mic or heard another persons voice.

(Wildkarrde) #17

Yep same not sure I’ve seen another headset symbol either

(wolfnemesis75) #18

I play on Xbox. If you seen no mic here’s what I do: Create a fire team and invite them. Once you do that, they turn their mic on. Try it.

(H3LLS1) #19

i do. constantly.

odd.

(Shotgun Surgeon) #20

Well I can tell you right now that there are at least 1000 people online playing Brink. How do I know this? Because MOH currently has at least 500 people playing and it’s not even in the top 20 of the most played games on XBL (source: majornelson.com). Brink, however, is #12 on that list.

With seeing the same people over and over, I would blame that on matchmaking. This game has horrible horrible matchmaking. I can quit and rejoin a game multiple times and it would keep connecting me to the same exact game… but when I switch some filter options around, it starts connecting me to many different games. Hopefully matchmaking will get a fix also.

Don’t worry. If this patch effectively fixes the lag, then you will see a slight increase in population, as well as a solid fanbase building up.
