Wtf is wrong with the graphics

(Murderous Pie) #81

yeah the new one looks better. but i wish they would optimize it for 360 so that we may be able to play at a reasonable framerate/resolution, hopefully more detail. i did not that detail was still included in terminal with max settings (the moody writing scrawled on the walls and the caution tape not being a texture)

See all images and tell me what do you think. Imo the quality is just the same that it was in 2009, the difference is that the just changed the lighting of both maps…[/QUOTE]
It was already established they changed the lighting. Container City indeed was more ‘evening’-ish than it is now. They removed some spotlights here and there that beautifully illuminated certain areas of the map (like the gate and the crane). Container City also had a more blue-ish tint, different from the current green/brown tint. In my opinion, Container City had the perfect atmosphere.

Your settings of brightness and contrast are a good attempt. But it resulted in one of the most hideous overblown bloom effects available. It completely ruined the balance of shadows and highlights. The sun is causing a huge yellow blob in the sky and it’s just painful to look at the boat now.

But again, that’s my opinion.

(FoxiT) #83

This is the explosion sequence…

It doesn’t look as a cheap Chinese stuff…

This is the screen with r_brightness and r_gamma both setted to 1…

I also prefer this one, more natural, my settings were just to show tha lightning is the most important part when you are seeing a picture or a screen… It would be different in moviment…

I’m still having a ton of fun with Brink, but I hear you on this one. I have it installed on my hard drive and the graphics are definitely unpolished, fuzzy and generally mediocre at best. The funny thing is, my girlfriend doesn’t play video games at all, but has seen me play a number of games and has heard me talk about what graphics are. Last night I was playing and she said, Travis…this game doesn’t look very good. I said what do you mean? She replied, “the graphics are bad”. So no worries you not alone here.

(FoxiT) #85

Ofc it isn’t that great on consoles…Hardware from 2006 trying to run opengl 3.x engine(or dx11 for the other titles) and they are made to use dx9… The developers cant use many of the new features that can improve both frame rates and general looking… It is just mission impossibile when you do it for 3 platforms… Still pc version looks awesome for me, compared to other fps of 2011… If you want good looking grapfic buy a pc, or just wait the next gen… That’s it…

(sirius89) #86

What we can say is,Brink looks definetly sharper then Crysis 2 for instance. xD

Crysis 2 felt like your playing it drunk or super baked.

(throwback8) #87

I hope the above post is meant to be sarcastic. Crysis 2’s graphics are leaps and bounds above Brink no matter what game mode your in. Like I said though this is only about the graphics of the game, because the gameplay itself is a blast. Also, I do love the art style they were going for. If things were polished up more it would look outstanding.

(sirius89) #88

In general,YES,Crysis 2 is streets ahead but like every texture in Crysis 2 was BURRIED under some blur effects.

Also, the textures in Crysis 1 were sharper then some in Crysis 2.You couldn’t even read the text on some objects,in brink you can. ;D

You think they made this excessive blur cause it looks cool? No,it’s cause of the consoles.

Crysis 2 was a blurry piece of console **** and everyone on the Crysis 2 forums will agree with that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also textures in Crysis 1 have the double of then the resolution the textures in Crysis 2 have.Guess why, consoles…

@FoxiT : “buy a PC”
The only answer I’m thinking of is “Buy a brain”

Right before Brink, I’ve played on the same console (Xbox 360) to Gears of War 3 beta, and it looked far beter than Brink.
And before that, Halo Reach : again, far better than Brink.
Actually, it’s been a while since I’ve seen this low level graphics so no, it doesn’t have everything to do with 2006 hardware.
I’m completely aware that we can’t have the same thing as a current PC but what we have here, is not what the console can do… but of course, you know that since you certainly have a console, otherwise you wouldn’t interfere here not knowing what you’re talking about ?

Anyway, in my concern, what bothers me here is that graphically the release game is under every promo video I could watch waiting for this game to be released, with some of them tagged as “360” (what I really doubt now seeing the result)

PS: I’m only talking graphics since it’s the thread, but I really like the game, I just wish it would look better, knowing that the console can do it (not so sure that every developper can though)

(Metal-Geo) #90

Saying the graphics of BRINK are ‘bad’ or ‘horrible’ is just rude. Especially if we’re comparing it against games like Crysis 2. Crysis 2 was made by a team 2, if not 3, times as big as Splash Damage. And both worked 4 years on their title.

No, the graphics of BRINK are terrific. Thing is, many people, myself included, prefer the more gritty, and perhaps even cinematic, display advertised back in 2009.

The way coated metal glows and shines in a hot spotlight. The dramatic and cold atmosphere of Container City. The dark shadows making the world look like a more deserted and frightening place. The smoke and dust blocking your sight after a heavy gunfight and explosions.

I’m sorry, I believe I’m drooling here… 'scuse me.

Multiplattforming is just as crappy for the consoles as for PC.
No one has an optimized version.

Hm,true.

I mean, multiplatforming in general is not a bad BUT do it right developers and not half assed.

Mate i got both, brain and xbox360… And actually i am a developer 2, so i know what i am saying. As you can read in my post i am talking about multiplatform titles, the ones that use libraries to display graphics(dx opengl and so on). When you see just a xbox360 titles it is obvious he looks better than a multi one. They can you many optimizations and most of the time are made directly in asm for that specific hardware. And i own halo reach too, and when i compare my Brink pc graphic in 1080p with the Reach no Aliasing and 700p poor graphic i can just simle. Ofc i am not talking of the brink port for 360, i dont own it. I jst want to see what bungie could do with halo reach if they made it for pc…(Compare 1st Crysis with Crysis 2…)

P.S. My gamertag is F0X1T, search if you dont trust me, i play a lot of reach multiplayer…

Then I don’t understand why saying “buy a PC” if you also agree that the platform is not the problem ?
My point was just to say that, even if my other exemples were not multi-platform, they proved that the console, in itself, could do better. (and again, not what a current PC could, but that’s another debate)

Maybe you’re right and the problem is the multi-platform, then it’s a developper problem : I mean, if they can’t handle it, I’d prefer them to make it on one, but with a good result, than releasing it on 3 this way.

(Atavist) #95

Unfortunately many capitalists are trying to go for profit over quality which hurts the end users, lol.

Some people spent 1500 on their machines to have them run software as well as a 200-300 dollar one.

What does that have to do with what I posted?

Maybe ID Tech 4 is outdated. Rage coming in sept. features ID Tech 5 and so far everything from it looks gorgeous.

Maybe Brink 2 can use ID Tech 5

id Tech 4 is going on seven years old now, but saying that all of the COD games run on a modified (in fact extremely modified in its current iteration, IW 4.0, which was used in MW2 and will be in MW3) version of id Tech 3 which was developed originally for Quake III Arena and is twelve years old! Funnily enough, Black Ops actually runs on IW 3.0. Modern graphics in id Tech games really come down to the developers of the game themselves which is why Infinity Ward can pull off amazing graphics in a dated engine, because they have so many resources with their prior sales and Activision backing them financially. The more you know

Apparently id Tech 5 was built with a lot more focus on making it easier to use for third party developers though so I’ll second that Brink 2 or the next ET game will hopefully be in id Tech 5!

I was hoping someone a lot more knowledgeable would respond to that.

Brilliant answer thank you for doing your homework.

Lets pray for Brink to have enough success to drive a really awesome Brink 2.

Rage will be just awesomesauce!

The news alone that there will be a SDK in the release version is just nerdgasm deluxe.

I always have to think about Wolfenstein:ET 2 but i think SD wouldn’t give a “go” for the modders just like that.

But just imagining ET 2 with idTech5 is just mindblowing. <3

Maybe your next project SD huh, maybe,i know you like it… :stuck_out_tongue:
