Wtf is wrong with the graphics

(Bakercompany) #21

Thats why I think it was a time/money thing. All 3 probably had to be cut down as they were being developed at the same time.

So all 3 platforms would have received a similar looking game, with PC still having its edge but the consoles wouldn’t have been lacking too badly.

If Splash Damage had say another 6 months to a year and $xxxxxx.xx more dollars we’d have that game looking and playing like that on all 3 platforms. It’s sad Splash Damage’s talented developers had their potential smothered.

(Atavist) #22

I guess they never lost a word about it. Smells like false advertisement to me.

(Bakercompany) #23

Man I just watched the video again.

Its just remarkable what that game looks like. Not to mention the epic cutscene. With the banter between security guys and excellent voice acting. The voice acting is still great in our Brink. But man what happened to all of that? Did you notice how much more smooth and fluid SMART looked? And those explosions… Wow.

(wolfnemesis75) #24

I am guessing that cut scene is DLC

(Slade05) #25

****, love the grit of that video, container city there really looks like a bleak ****ing slum!

(blargo) #26

ManGiraffeDog, a horrible marauding godless killing machine, is coming to destroy humanity. I’ve come to warn you to RUN AWAY and save yourselves. Here’s what it looks like so you can be prepared:

I’m super serial.

(DemiGod) #27

I saw this in the other post. It’s just as stupid here.

(sereNADE) #28

just a reminder: popular 360 titles run at lower resolutions in order to retain visual effects.

here is a link to a halo 3 article that makes a quick point about visual definition and resolution balance…

you could make a case study about every popular console title but when you have a modestly sized dev team you can only accomplish so much when you have to develop for 3 platforms.

shame marketing often drives up hopes, though. the consoles won’t start looking much better im afraid.

I’m sure the PS3 and Xbox simply could not handle the extreme requirements to have all the bells and whistles turned on, that is the logical explanation why they left out the post processing etc. Those consoles are a few years old already and this game is a beast even on the latest PC hardware.

Long story short, if you want the best graphics and game experience go invest in a high end PC. Consoles are for kids anyway so you get what you get.

(Bakercompany) #30

Yes but the high end PCs playing Brink on max doesn’t look like that.

My buddy said he thought he heard something long ago about them having to scrap the graphics and hurry it up.

(Metal-Geo) #31

Unless Splash Damage officially tells us what and/or who decided to change things, it’s all just speculation.

For instance, beta testers (hired ones) have a lot of influence on the development with games. Container City looks much, MUCH more darker in the video(s). It’s possible testers complained about this.

My buddy said he thought he heard something long ago about them having to scrap the graphics and hurry it up.

Also possible. Both Container City and Terminal looked way more detailed and moody in the early (2009) videos. Perhaps the designers put too much time and effort in these maps, that it’d become unrealistic to reach a deadline to give the other 6 maps just as much details. And thus instead of releasing a game with 2 beautiful and 6 ‘less’ beautiful maps, they balanced the visuals of Container City and Terminal. Who knows.

There are soooo many things I liked about the Container City and Terminal videos, that didn’t make it in the final release of the game. They both have great, stunning dark shadows, giving the maps a great atmosphere. The contrast and colors in Contaienr City resulted in what could possible be the most amazing ‘evening’ visuals ever. The spotlight in Container City near the gate. The (more obvious) presence of light-rays in Terminal. The in-game cut scenes.
The only thing I don’t prefer are the interfaces. They looked unnecessarily busy and complex in the videos.

I doubt we’ll ever get to play BRINK of 2009 though. But I still wish we could.

(DemiGod) #32

It’s heard to believe that they had beta testers, to be honest. They should have released a public beta. This seems to be the norm for higher end games like GoW and Starcraft II, why not do it with all games and produce better quality games?

Oh right… I remember…

Killzone 2 and many other console games look better than those original Brink videos.

The PC version of Brink does not look as good as those original Brink videos.

I still think that its just a matter of them cutting out the post-processing.

(Rally) #34

Am I the only one who thinks the PC version looks better now than that old CCity gameplay looked?

(goodpain) #35

looks dark but thats about it. Turn up the brightness?

(legend123) #36

Whats up with graphics?

Almost nothing personally. In fact game performance, gameplay, etc are more important.

Right, gameplay first BUT it’s still false advertising!

Your kidding me dude, Brink actually looks worse than most of the ‘Next Gen’ launch titles from 2005/06 imho.
Make whatever excuses you want, this is simply an unfinished product.

(Kinjal) #39

why? U can just make a ports or laggy games and sell it for a full price, after all Richard Ham said that he is a fan of IW. Soo…

(Metal-Geo) #40

I find it hard to believe you actually prefer the final version.

Comparison of Container City:

Jut for giggles, Terminal:

Okay, I’ll admit the shadow on the train in Terminal is a bit too much. But still… Dat lighting.
