Wouldn't it be fun....

…if brink included some other simple non-objective gametype?
For warmup and cooldown, bonding and just to have some (unranked) fun.
Short games 10/15 minutes.

Personally I would love to have some sort of (official!) secondairy game.
Something not too serious, Catch the Chicken per example =D
(Catch the Tapir for Brink)
:stroggtapir:

Or one flag CTF or Freezetag or something.
Not DM because that is just plain boring.

Oh well, it is a silly idea anyway and not gonna happen.
But I will ask, what gametype would you like to play in the Brink setting,
in addition to the basegame.

(Brandmon) #2

A Stopwatch CTF of some sort would be a nice change from the usual objectives imo. Maps don’t need to be neither huge nor complex really. Just smart CTF design.

(zXSwordXz) #3

I would love a ctf mode. I enjoy playing ctf matches…

I quite like bombing run in Halo 3, 1 bomb and 2 teams fighting for it… you need to get it to the enemies base and plant it, then defend it for 10secs till it explodes. Fast, mindless games. The bomb carrier can’t shoot while holding the bomb, but melee is 1 hit kill and they can drop it and shoot away if they want, pick it up when they’re done.

Wouldn’t it be fun when developers spent all their resources on making a game that is actually good by itself and doesn’t need these shenanigans.

(Ragoo) #6

If the basic game is good and attracts many many people, modding teams will give us all the funny and stupid games we want to have  So no need for Splash Damage to do that

(DarkangelUK) #7

No, i like fun additions. Wouldn’t it be good if we didn’t have to rely on mod teams for that kind of stuff.

(tokamak) #8

Fine. A time trail run against the ghost of yourself or of other players would be cool.

(shirosae) #9

Can’t find a server full of people you like, or you only have a short time to play? Find a fun mini game mode and kill a few minutes on that. Are you new to the game and likely to suck? Find a mini game mode server and get used to the game mechanics against real players without any permanent stats running.

And, it might get the idea through the casual players’ heads that you don’t need to leave the ‘pure only’ filter switched permanently on. I like it.

There’s plenty of other game titles for mindless fun, let’s let SD bring us something different. No need to include ctf or bomb run in an objective based team oriented game

(zXSwordXz) #11

Dude, I’m sure SD can use the time to do something more constructively rather than making unnecessary things. You want a fun game, go play hop scotch with the girls outside. Maybe that will do you more good by shedding some weight and getting some much need excercise.

(Shiv) #12

No need to get personal dude. Maybe he is much fitter than you… its the internet.

A mini game could be fun but allot of the time they will run the risk of feeling tacked on unless properly implemented.
its something reviewers will pick up on, its not easy to market the little mini game on the side and it uses time that could be used making the core game better.
Ctf tho, that could be mighty fun, 10 minutes on the standard maps, after 5 mins you swap side so the maps don’t need to be balanced…

Way to be a trolltard… try and keep it constructive or gtfo. In case you didn’t notice the general relaxed tone of this place, playing flame card around here doesn’t happen (much), so put a lid on it now please.

Console games are usually stacked with different gametypes, hidden stuff and minigames. PC gamers get the usual “let the modders make that”. The modding community is a great thing, it bring longevity to the game, but i also think (IMO) it can make devs a little lazy and leave it up to them to add some additional life givers to the game.

Indeed. Now I just hope that BRINK would be more mod friendly than ETQW’s ranked business was.

(-SSF-Sage) #15

Yes indeed. It’s not worth it to map for QW when everyone plays on ranked servers. This is something I’m expecting from SD, please make it back to being worth it. I’m really looking forward to map for brink.

I sure do like the fact that ranked servers are pure and mod free. So it would be cool to have a system that would tell if the server has “fun mods”. Custom maps and real mods should not be included ofc! I’d pay extra 5 euros for that.

I’d be okay with ranked servers, if you could use atleast custom maps and possibly bigger mods with them (pure check ofc). Only the maps/mods that were added by SL (or whatever) could be used.

(tokamak) #16

It weren’t only the ranked servers that made QW map-unfriendly.

Unlike Wolfenstein you couldn’t just pick and chose modded servers without having to fully reset the game. Very unappealing.

(.Chris.) #17

Powerball!

With the SMART thingy it could be really good, after 3 attempts at try to bringing the mod back in other games I daren’t try again for brink though unless I get some more help.

(Senyin) #18

I like the mixed reactions.
Ofcourse I understand time and effort is much better spend
on the base game.
And ofcourse there are gonna be mods.

For once I would like simple sidegame(s), to ship with the game, to get my Brink Fix
when I dont have enough time or dont feel like intens play.
I also have a thing for official stuff.
Maybe I’m just being selfish

zXSwordXz, my weight and condition are fine, thanks.
BMI is ideal Muhahaha :oppressor:

(DoubleDigit) #19

I’d much prefer a stable, fun to play, competitive, vanilla than tons of mods which none actually work and only split the tiny community.

(SockDog) #20

I’d like to see some other gametypes be released officially by SD especially if the uniqueness of Brink’s design would lend a new twist to them. Maybe not in the core release but having something like this scheduled in for inclusion at a 6 monthly content/patch (deep breath) DLC type stage would be great.

I think it would be healthy to let SD go a little apeshit and produce an off the wall mod for their own game.
