Would you like servers to have Public VOIP on by default?

(dsi1) #21

Oschino1907 you are a thick ass mother****er, we shouldn’t have to work around the fault of Splash Damage, Splash Damage should fix their mistake.

(Oschino1907) #22

NO YOU ARE, have you even read the whole thread, there is a reason SD did it that way, the ytalked about it in interviews before. No its not ideal but there is a reason and i personally think its a good one. Best thing to do in my opinion is be more up front and in peoples face about explaining it in the game cause it seems lookin in the INSTRUCTION MANUEL or checkin online is way too much of a hassle for everyone. You all need to get YOUR heads out of your asses.

(DarkangelUK) #23

It does seem counter intuitive to make the game as accessible to new players as possible, but make the simple concept of VOIP require reading a manual.

You have to admit, Kendle may have exaggerated his comment slightly, but in the grand scheme of things, who reads manuals? You are right, a little bit of applied thinking and you can easily find a solution, but I think the point most people are trying to make is that it shouldn’t need that level of thought to simply get VOIP active.

You’re both right in your points is what I’m trying to say.

(GreasedScotsman) #24

Stop the insults or you’ll be put into time out.

(dsi1) #25

Splash Damage mistook public VOIP for being bad somehow, now they need to fix that mistake, it is as simple as that. Workarounds are just that, workarounds, they aren’t permanent fixes.

(Oschino1907) #26

Well if you played COD or some other games you would understand, not everyone is civil on their mics and often its nothing but garbage comming through. Like i said maybe something in the game to be sure players notice the steps on how to do everything, like what they did with the video manuels.

(BioSnark) #27

The current system doesn’t just require a manual. It requires people to go into their developer console to turn up the volume and pray they’re in a server with global (aka team) voip enabled because it’s not a filter option. The current system creates of culture of silence. Lack of vsays necessitates mind reading. It doesn’t work with a team game. SD mistook VOIP for being bad on the PC platform when they started playing on xbox. What rare voip abusers there are on PC get muted, kicked and banned.

(manlycaveman) #28

It should be on by default with an option to mute players. The majority of people are civil and for those few people you don’t want to listen to, just mute them.

If you’re going to come here and complain about how “everyone” is mic-spamming and other nonsense then just turn off your own VOIP and join a ventrilo server with friends (or whatever other voice programs you use).

Having it off by default is ridiculous, even more so when you hear their reasons for doing it this way as a simple mute option solves all of these problems.

(Oschino1907) #29

I agree on PC it more of a problem and there are less reasons for them to do it the waythey did but they made all 3 basically exactly the same for the most part. If anything complain more about the people making the servers, SD cant control how they set up games, if anyhting they should atleast try to give you a better filter option, weird that they wouldnt show that before you choose.

Maybe a SD rep needs to explain this all to you, they have a reason behind it even if you PERSONALLY dont agree with it. I agree with the reason but also agree they could do some things to help those who arent bothered by other people at all. Really i feel many are just blowing it way out of proportion…

(dsi1) #31

It’s called a mute button, use it. People being insecure about themselves and being affected by random people on the internet isn’t SD’s problem or the community’s problem, it’s your problem.

(Oschino1907) #32

Lol well tell that to SD because thats basically their reason for doing it, never said it was a problem that i personally had, just stated that as an example of why SD set it up the way they did. Not explaining this again for the 50th time. Maybe try to take an objective look at the reasoning and not just solely looking at it from your personal point of view.

The lack of voice communication in this game is a large contributor to the empty servers and near-dead community. The biggest part of teamwork is communication, and for a team-based game to have it disabled by default is completely senseless. Someone dropped the ball here, and it may be too late for a change to even matter.

(DarkangelUK) #34

Sorry but I’m gonna disagree there, it may contribute somewhat, but I’m not sold on the fact it’s a large contributor (speaking from a PC perspective here). I play a lot of games, and quite a few of them have VOIP in them… maybe I just esmell or it’s bad luck, but none of them have any resemblance to an active VOIP user base. You get the occasional user, and tbh it’s always been mostly the OCB server in ETQW I’ve heard activity, but beyond that it’s mainly quiet.

(dsi1) #35

The fact of the matter is, it’s currently 51 to 7 in favor of VOIP enabled by default. That’s probably the majority of the user-base voting too.

(TwwIX) #36

Yes! For a game that relies heavily on teamwork, communication is practically non existent atm.

(haccess) #37

In Counterstrike and Team Fortress 2 most any server has talkative people, at least for US east coast servers. In Brink’s case it just makes the game feel more empty and dead when you’re hearing the same character voices and no real people. Another communication issue is the lack of a persistant chat box. Seems like there’s not much going on, I’m not itching to jump into a game of Brink after work like I’ve done with other games. Maybe wasn’t a key issue for everyone, but it has been for me.

(DarkangelUK) #38

Again maybe I just happen to be joining the ‘always alone’ servers, but CS or TF2 I don’t get much VOIP activity, and if it is, it’s usually general chit-chat between people that know each other or someone just spouting crap. I can see why people want it on by default, I’m not denying that, but claiming it’s a major contributor to the lack of players just doesn’t sit with me.

(haccess) #39

Alright, well the lack of communication is a large contributor to the lack of ME on the servers. Why everyone else lost interest in a team-based game where they can rarely ever talk to their teammates is their own business.

(DarkangelUK) #40

Please don’t misunderstand me, at the end of the day we’re on the same page here… VOIP on should have been the default setting from the get-go. Regardless of personal taste, I can see more people being put off by it being disabled than there would have been had it been implemented properly. Sure you get asshats abusing the voice system, so a simple mute option would take care of that no problem… but hiding VOIP away definitely has had an effect on more than a few people… and a system that puts the majority off as apposed to it’s alternate state is the wrong course to take.
