Would you like servers to have Public VOIP on by default?

(Stormtrooper Dan) #1

Am I the only one who is frustrated at the servers that has Public VOIP disabled? When you are down and you notice someone is about to kill your teammate, you warn them via VOIP but it doesn’t matter because it is disabled? Or you need (revive, ammo, buff) Or you need to get a sticky nade off you? Or just calling out where enemies are coming from. Or telling someone you don’t have enough pips to revive or give them ammo. Or telling people you are throwing a flashbang/molokov/cooked grenade.

Please vote yes to enable public VOIP by default!!

(weeschwee) #2

yeah, it’s annoying. in games like tf2, everyone in the server is talking and it makes the experience so much better. brink is so team based, but communication is nearly nonexistent. it makes you feel very isolated and that you are playing with bots.

(Oschino1907) #3

Just make a Fireteam with the other players, if they dont join then they obviously either dont have a mic or arent a team player, no need to talk to people who dont want to listen only to annoy the crap out of them… Thats why SD did it that way in the first place. People act like its brain surgery to press a few buttons. Those who want to talk to others should have enough motivation to take those steps, not those who want to avoid it all together.

… or just don’t know what a fireteam is good for, or have a fireteam with their clanmades/friends.

fireteams are made for small teams, to separete different attack teams, not for the whole team, thats what a team-voip is for.
many server have team-voice disabled, and thats realy, realy stupid. none existing admin-iq … sorry, but true

well, disabled global voice just makes the game a bit more boring.

(Kendle) #5

Not a lot of point having VOIP if it’s not enabled by default.

VOIP is partly for teamwork (and Fireteams can be used for that, although most people don’t even know they exist let alone how to set them up), but it’s also used for social interaction and for Admins to quickly communicate with everyone on the server, for which Fireteams are not enough.

VOIP has to be on by default, otherwise the game might as well not have it, and without it (and without vsays and end of round chat) you might as well be playing offline with bots.

(BioSnark) #6

the poll has one option and I voted for it.
@no votes: servers = pc = kthxbai.

(matsy) #7

I only know about fire-teams from past title although I don’t have a clue how to make one in Brink.

The reason I used fire-team were to see what class my team mates are which brink already does and if they are dead or not which brink doesn’t do…

I also voted yes to VOIP by default, which I thought it was but I have it turned off anyway because I listen to music when I play.

(Apples) #8

When you know what to do you dont need to be that talkative in pub in order to be a good teamplayer IMO… But yes indeed a VOIP on by default is THE way to go.

Why SD oh why?

(Sono) #9

The default voice chat options were a pretty poor choice of settings IMO. I don’t have a group of friends playing this game, but i’m usually pretty amazed to hear someone else talking in random games.

(trigg3r) #10

yes please.
i still dont understand the reasoning behind setting VOIP off by default

OMG YOU PEOPLE ACT LIKE YOURE CRIPPLED!!!

LOl what is so freakin hard about, Push Start, Scoreboard, Click every name (human) and invite to Fireteam. I guess i dont have problems cause me and my friends send invites to people so we all end up in one big Fireteam and then can all talk to each other. And as i said any other decent player wanting to talk or hear others talk can just as easy ask to be in the fireteam.

The fact that some of you dont know what a fireteam is or how to start one shows that youre the kind of person who would rather complain for weeks on end instead of just looking for and finding the quick solution that there is.

AGAIN since everyone seems to still be asking “why SD oh why” and down talking SD as if they are retards.
THEY decided to make it an option you have to choose and go out of your way to do becuase if you really want to talk to others or hear others talk you make a small effort and then BAM there you go, you start fireteam or get asked/ask to join a fireteam and your talking or listening to the rest of your Fireteam.
If someone doesnt want to join a fireteam, they prob dont want to talk with others or hear anyone else talk. Now if someone joins in and is like that SD figure why shold they have to go through all the menu stuff to mute everyone or each person with mics on. Should the guy who would rather not talk to or hear it all together have to do all the work?
I mean why wouldnt they want to talk or hear others?
-People harassing them
-Loud music blasting over mic
-Clan players acting like Dictators
-Annoying Kids
-People having side discussions not about game
-Dealing with ragers having bad games
-People that cry and whine about everything THEY dont understand (lol most of you)
I mean come on more then enough reasons for many to not want to hear anyone except for those they want to hear from. SD had a reason and I back them up on it. Mainly because me and my friends have zero problem with it as many matches just end up with the whole team as one big fireteam, really doesnt take that much effort especially since others can ask to join you and it only takes two button presses from within the game and not goin to the menu.

STOP COMPLAINING! and just do the method that provided or go play OLD SKOOL or somethin. all thetime you spent on here crying about it you could have easily read the thread about Fireteams and mastered everything about them (not like its really that hard to begin with). LOL at these forums and all the people who spend more time bitching and moaning over finding the solution for the task at hand. If talkin to people was sooooooooooooo important it wouldnt be a big deal to spend 10secs starting or joing firteams.

Not knowing you can do that for starters, which is most people.

And for the people who don’t read the forums (which again is most Brink players), how do they know how to create a Fireteam?

And how do Fireteams address the issue of Admins wanting to communicate with everyone on the server (to enforce server rules or warn troublesome players etc.), or friends wanting to play on the same server but different teams and yet still be able to engage in social conversation?

ET did it much better, asking you if you wanted to join or start a Fireteam on joining the server. If Brink at least did that we’d be a big step forward.

Oschino1907 your line at the end says it all

"Add me on PSN if you, as I do, have a Mic, a Brain and want to WIN!!! "

Lol thank you, thank you. Ready for a good ol laugh now at the expense of impatient crybabies who whine before finding a solution?!?!

IF YOU WOULD LOOK IN YOUR INSTRUCTION MANUEL IT CLEARLY STATES INFO ABOUT ONLINE MODES AND HAS A PART SOLELY ABOUT FIRETEAMS!!!

From Instructions- “Fire Teams”-“During online play, you can press start to gain access to a team scorebaord. While on the scoreboard, you can select teammates and invite then to join a Fireteam. If they accept, a private voice chat line will be automatically opened with them and you’ll be guranteed to stay with them in any subsequent mission, until you return tothe title screen. When you are in a match with your friends, you’re automatically placed into a Fireteam with them.”

WHAT ARE YOUR EXCUSES NOW!

Whether this poll shows it or not, the majority of people will want to have it enabled by default. When I first got the game, I assumed nobody even had a mic, thats why nobody was talking, until a week later I realize VOIP is disabled and I have to enable it myself, and then to find it out its pretty useless since EVERYONE is going to have to do this too, in-order to hear me. With a game that is heavily team-based, it would be expected to have it on by default.

If you have having the same ‘issues’ as Oschino then you can always turn it off. What would be great is to incorporate a ‘mute’ feature so you dont have to put up with that certain individual.

Again if you READ the INSTRUCTION MANUEL or even researched online it would have been an easy find and answered your questions.

Also dont blame others for your Blindness, it says when you are choosing games modes exactly whats enabled and disabled. Lol all you people have is excuses for you not knowing or understanding and very lil hard info to show that SD ****ed up somewhere, mean really they even spoke about it all before the game ever came out. WTF get over yourselves people, you can BE WRONG and stupid at times, we all do it, even myself, just not with this game in paticular.

Yes for PC anyway, Public VOIP is essential for teamwork and coordinated game play. I have no idea whos bright idea it was to turn it off by default on the PC but that was a mistake.

I know you can make a Fireteam but that takes for ever and the menu is clunky as hell. You have to click to vote and click to exit the menu which is not ideal. Both the TAW Amsterdam and Dallas servers have public VOIP enabled and I would like to see more servers have it turned on if SD are not going to change it.

(Jimmy James) #19

I’ve never used VOIP (my wife says I just cuss the entire time I play so my using VOIP would be torture to my teammates), but in ET:QW I find it extremely helpful when my teammates are using VOIP. I have even been asked to join a few clans but they required that I have VOIP so I couldn’t join.

I can type pretty fast so I don’t really need to use VOIP but I would like to have it enabled by default so I can hear my teammates. I believe it is a critical aspect of any team-based FPS.

You read instruction manuals ??
