Would you like a monetization system based on cosmetic items and not on mercs ? (ie CS GO, TF2)

More missions and other things that I’ll have to keep my lips sealed on for now.
And yeah the patch notes coming out day before/day of is something that has become practice now. We always want to be cautious in case something goes wrong and we have to remove a feature or content- don’t want to disappoint players.

So, here is the thing, yes, it’d be nice if mercs were cheaper in credits, and cash, and yes it sucks that the grind is so much that you have to pay to get the mercs usually. But, here is the thing folks, your money is paying their bills, to expect the whole game free is really kinda…well, ridiculous. They gotta make money some how right? But the real question is are the prices fair? Credits and Cash

Cash wise, 10 bucks per merc, let’s assume Splash gets 30% of that and the rest goes to Steam and Nexon. So that is about 3 bucks, and if 1000 people pay for it, you’re looking at 3000 dollars, and that has to be split between all the devs who work there at Splash Damage.

Now, is that all true? Perhaps but most likely not, the truth is the devs could be paid a wage, or a salary, we don’t know. But I do know this, if we pay for all the Mercs, we are looking at 200 bucks total per person. That is…quite a lot honestly, 100 in total would be more reasonable, but then again…I really feel bad paying basically zilch for the game when these people work so hard on it. This is why imo free to play is a horrible buisness model. Why not just sell the whole game for 25 bucks and offer skins as cheap DLC, 1-2.50 each?

As for the credits, I believe if you do 3 missions a day, for 2 weeks, that’s a lot of dedication, that dedication should be rewarded at least somewhat. Because again, there’s going to be 20 more mercs aside from Skyhammer and Aura who are given to you by default. So 20 *2. you’re looking at about 10 months to grind for and get all the characters, compared to the current, which is more like 15-18 months total.

So…I think the model as is…is fair, considering the circumstances, but maybe a more reasonable medium could be reached. Something like 5 bucks per merc, or 30000 credits each seems about right imo.

You have a faulty premise. You assume that all players will intend to buy all mercs, or that they would if the price was cheaper(not true). Beyond that you should never use random guesses for determine profit splits. You can make estimations based on existing data, but a random guess…

F2P Is designed to attract more users. Part of ETs success is that it was totally free, not because it had a low base fee. Please don’t answer this by saying CS:GO or something like that. You can’t compare a game backed by valve with a massive history to Dirty Bomb. The logic just isn’t there.

They did say that more ways to earn credits are incoming. It may be similar to what you are saying, but it may not. We shall see. A 10 month earning estimate is actually fairly low of a number. Much more likely to be roughly 1 merc per month at 50k and 2 per month at 30k. 54k credits earned per 30 days of daily objectives. Not including base fees or skill bonuses. Also not including early level up credit rewards.

I do agree that mercs need a price drop, but 30k might be too much. It would become too easy to earn mercs and it would kill any real profit that might be made.

Everything is easier said than done, and there are currently no skins or cosmetics ready for sale. How do they pay their bills in the mean time? With the system that currently exists. If they weren’t selling, then the prices would have already dropped.

This is the only way for this game to succeed, they also need to implement steam trading and steam market of items and people will flock to it.

(triteTongs) #65

Only if there’s a perceived value of the items.

H1Z1 is on the market, most of their items are 3 cents. Their “keys” dropped significantly below their real value. They had to remove the keys from being marketable. Why would I now open a crate for 2.50 dollars to get a chance at a 3 cent item? (I’m not sure what the"ultra-rares" are though)

A market reflects the actual desire on content. I could only see Dirty Bomb using the marketplace for specific things, but not everything though. The marketplace is tricky to understand but I do hope they get to use it

God, I hope SplashDamage will keep the focus on gameplay, and keep the game away from the financial speculation metagame.
