Would you game at a 64 player server?

i know the game is made for 32 players but ive been running a 64 player a couple of times (it crashed all the time bcause of overflow so im angerous for the fix =D)

It wasnt too crowded i just think it added some realism so that people can experience real war =)

just want to hear what people think if they like it ill open 2-5 of them so you can experience the real stuff =D

I’d almost play exclusively at a larger player-count server (provided the ping and resources are there to handle such a large player-load).

I’m sure a lot of people would too… this game is all that much more immersive with more players.

Nope no way thats too many people/noobs/spammage. No way in hell. Happy penguin has a 64 player rtcw server with no friendly fire and I refuse to play there. 32 is a great number for server.

The 64 servers are GREAT. granted if ya go into them and run into the smoke…

Build it they will come.
(only cs is above ET in online players, right now http://www.gamespy.com/stats/ )

HP2 goes from crash(0) to 64 in about 10 minutes, same with ECGN

If you are going to run a large or very large server, please ensure that: A, WeaponRestrictions are on! Imagine 20 FieldOps calling down artillery at any given time… and B, Friendly Fire is On, without it there’s just too much spamming into the crowds.

I love playing on larger servers (40-50 players) even though my system is screaming in agony the whole time and I’d like to see some more of them out there.

Yeah definately I would play there, you would need also very (and I mean VERY) good admin coverage, like a big bunch of admins (I don’t even know if they are called admin in this game, well admins like in HL).

64 servers is too much. Frankly my best ET games have been from 16 to 24 players max.

When you have too many players objetives become imposible to fullfill. usually the defending team wins. Railgun with that amount of players is imposible. Also its hard to coordinate an atatck with this amount of players.

My prefered server size is 24-30

Any less isn’t enough action. Any more generally is just spamming.

I like large servers (50-64 players). I almost exclusively played RtCW on large servers with FF-on. Large servers demand maps that allow large player loads. I don’t think the current maps meet this requirement.

Ergo, I don’t think a 64 person server would be that fun for ET given the currently available maps. In addition to the crampness of the maps, there are just too many clueless n00bs. Don’t get me wrong - I love n00bs. They are tomorrow’s competent player and on-line-gaming community members. i try to help them as much as possible in-game (e.g. answering their questions instead of calling them n00bs). But a surprisingly large (to me anyway) portion of the people playing ET did not play RtCW at all. They are new to the class system and the gameplay. The maps are new so you will find veteran and n00b alike wandering around lost.

I think you might be better off starting with a moderate sized server (32 players perhaps). Then, as the community establishes itself, people learn the game, and larger scale maps are created, you can increase the server size to take advantage of it.

LOL ET is second biggest online FPS and yet is still only 5% of CS players. When will CS players ever wake up and realise there are other FPS games?!!!

Personally, I think 64 on ET maps is too many. Some RtCW like Depot and Assault accomodate 64 players REALLY nicely. I think some of the best games I have ever had was on Depot with 64 players. I just couldn’t even imagine any map besides Oasis able to support a good 64 player game. Actually, maybe Goldrush would work but I dunno…

64 players on these maps are too much! These are the stock maps of ET like Castle, Chateau, Sub, Rocket maps of RtCW. No way in hell can you put 64 people on any of those maps and it be anything better than painful. Wait til the mappers make some customs. 64 players will be fine on bigger maps, like Normandy Breakout and Marketgarden were in Wolf.

Not to mention the crash, restart, crash, restart cycle you will go through.

The current maps may not be the perfect size for 64 players, but I sill love the BIG games. Now that players are starting to understand fireteams and work together, 64 player games are fun.

(wudan) #14

That would be awesome, if the ping was right!

The problem is that CS can run on PCs that are 3 years old or older… not everyone has a top-o’-the-line rig… and CS is the best MP-FPS for non-L33T PC’s.

Let 'em play CS… == less lag and more open slots on the ET srvrs.

I think 64 players is too much right now for any official ET map. Just imagine 32 Allies on the beach in Battery and 32 Axis camping in such a small area.

32 players still ok. I do think 24 is ideal for what we’ve got.

64+
The teamwork and action can be INTENSE in the 64 person servers. but then again if ya go into a big server and get “worked” (i.e. move and die), well, your always welcome back. I find it Hard to join the smaller servers unless it is with friends, not enough action. I played in the big servers where it I cant get out of spawn(no teamwork or bad server balancing), and Ive played games that are 4hrs+ long. Just as a small server (8-20) can be a BLAST or give ya a headache, a big one can also. It all comes down to teamwork, and if you havent spent some REAL time in the larger Public servers(like HP2) it is easy to say that there is too much this or too much that. I’m talking Large Custom maps like DenOfLions-Rivrstyx, or POWescape-Codey, Tank(can’t leave that out), Breakout-, SoulPortal-, Delivery, ect…depot. Maps that take teamwork, dual objective maps. You would be suprised at some of the teamwork that happens in HP2, granted there is a few+ thousand locals( Shrub’d stats are cool, hint hint). And on the same time there is the people playing that are lost/new/ect… getting “worked” by the locals. But the server is full more than not. It is fun to watch a new map come out and it go 24/7 w/64 (instead of rotation, so people can learn it) The first few hrs/days are almost hilariuos, ahh but give it a few days and…like I just got done playing in HP2 ET ff ON 64 players as axis in the railgun map, the allied got worked, but a few days ago was a different story when no one really new where to go, or where spawns, obj’s, ect was.
BUT point is YES for 64 person servers.
Build it good and they will come (ahh the hard part-balancing)

Hi,

I’m the admin of the ECGN 64 player ET server… I love the large servers as well. Tons of players changes the whole strategy of the game… Not for the weak of CPU, but very fun. When the server patch comes out to fix the crashing, it’ll probably be one of the most popular servers on the net just like our 24/7 beach server. Hope to see you all there!
