I finally figured out how to do the disassembleable radar cabinet.

Radar Transponder unit that must be disassembled

Unit after disassembly, which reveals the radar beacon inside

so I’m trying to decide if I want a darker theme (pre-dawn) or a brighter theme (seems like people want daylight maps). What do you all like? I think I am partial to a darker environment

Brighter? I know i need to fix some things in the background. I turned all the sky brushes to caulk then retex’d them with siwasky, but I still get those dark blocks and some lightning as if the wurzburg sky textures were still there. Any ideas?

structure, not trans. Why shouldn’t it ?

Where you get into problems is if there is something behind the sky that is not elliminated by vis. In that case, it will show through the sky, because the sky is always behind everything, regardless of the brush position.

That explains why I was confused. I did a test map after I posted that, and it did indeed block everything behind it. :smiley:

It’s flat intentionally, though there are selected 2 and 3 story buildings you can get into. There is also a fairly extensive underground cistern level

By flat I didn’t mean so much various levels, but that the whole thing seems to be on a flat plane. Maybe it has a flat plane below, too, and some flat levels above, but it’s still flat. Okay to be honest it’s also because I like to jump :>

Just fighting on a horizontal plane over huge distances simply isn’t my idea of fun, I hope you’ll take precautions that this won’t turn into a snipe-fest :stuck_out_tongue:

I share that worries. :slight_smile: It looks really flat and I believe that maps work better if they provide a lot of cover and plattforms, like Goldrush or Oasis. That’s just more fun to navigate around.
As for the lighting, I’d personally prefer something like Goldrush. Providing a nice atmosphere but still beeing bright enough that you can see everything clearly. So more like your second shot. :slight_smile: A bright daylight outdoor map could be kickass too, but I think that it would make mapping a bit harder. Getting things to look good in fullrbight is really difficult, when you can’t use shadows and gloomy light to make it look nifty. :slight_smile:

Understood. Once I release the map in beta form, I will be very open to suggestions about how to break up the hallways and streets. I am planning on adding more cover, but want to get some of the basic layout solid first, before adding ‘clutter’ and cover.

if i can tell it shouldn’t be released yet when it is on a server why can’t he? by A: his web site http://www.etmaps.rar.pl/ and B: when you click on his name on the pc site it comes up with the files he uploaded http://www.pcgamemods.com/u/374/ . I also reviewed a map of his on his on my site. I feel sorry for the original mapper that had his work cut up.

I was going to run your map on a server, But I see by your post that it was not intended for public release at this time!, I will not run your map until I get word that you have released the beta for Public testing.

Thanks. Yeah, I was running it on one server as a test and new versions were getting uploaded every day or so … still new at this stuff.

In any case, I’m going to pack everything up and release it as a public beta soon - warts and all.

This one’s good looking.

Just a suggestion, you could thicken your pillars and arches, they dont look quite like a construction, more like a decoration now.
