Wolfenstein: ET Master Server Back In Action

(Mateos) #101

Same here… And I’m sure in the past there were empty ETmain servers listed for instance.

(TheSgtBilko) #102

Yes, empty server were listed before (unless you filtered them out with the checkbox).

Not related but the master server for RtCW is still not reponding.

(diaboliksmart) #103

Hi all

For information, my 2.55 list shows empty servers:

V55

PS: double-clik on the picture or open it in separate window (it is not truncated)

(acQu) #104

Yes. 2.55 clients get empty servers. 2.6b clients do not get empty servers it seems. 2.55 clients send probably a different query to masterserver. Likely it asks for empty servers also.

EDIT1 yes, might be true. On 2.6b, with different protocol, i get now almost 1000 servers. Before it was always around 400. I get also empty servers now.

EDIT2 Here a pic with modified 2.6b client (console says 2.7a, but it is actually 2.6b, just bit modified and with some debug output). It shows also empty servers now. I just slightly modified the protocol for that.

EDIT3 so, 2.55 clients send a different query to masterserver. The masterserver just responds to the queries he gets. If the request is to just show crowded servers, he will answer with that.

(oleczek7) #105

Now I can see one server which is empty. How ? I don’t know :D.

(Azztec) #106

Very cool, W:ET master server is back!
Please start working on the ET:QW master server!!!

(schnoog) #107

If you wanna check wether a server is listed @ masterserver or not, simply try this new wolffiles-feature:
http://wolffiles.de/services/masterlist/
Currently 1239 server are listed.

(Mateos) #108

I guess the server where not empty and when you received it, it was? :stuck_out_tongue:

(acQu) #109

Indeed. This is one of the trollservers i mentioned  It is “exception”. Id masterserver should probe servers with getinfo request about every 5 minutes. Don’t know exactly, but something around that time. So masterserver still thinks it is some players connected and lists the server as crowded with at least 1 player/bot. The server should have been disappeared like 5 minutes after i guess.

(acQu) #110

Indeed. This is one of the trollservers i mentioned

Id masterserver should probe servers with getinfo request about every 5 minutes. So there is small timewindow where it happens to not know that the server went empty.

(Domagoj) #111

sorry guys, but 1 question, full servers arent shown also?

(acQu) #112

Give example

Or you can check schnoogs crawler => http://wolffiles.de/services/masterlist/ It should give you full view of masterlist, apart from any et client.

EDIT ah, you are right. Nice ^^

EDIT2 but the servers are still at master, they are just not being sent. It is the same as with empty servers.

(Mateos) #113

It’s like the MS had the option “Don’t show empty/full servers” checked…

Sadly, while trying to rep u… it gives me this:

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to schnoog again.

+1 at your new service!!

(Mateos) #115

Happened to me as well; I guess it’s a kind of protection, but I can’t see who would abuse this on these forums

(acQu) #116

I think this is normal behaviour. As i told, it depends all on your client and how he queries the masterserver. See for example the post where i show pic with modified protocol of 2.6b client.

The id masterserver is actually working quite well.

I see some tracking sites have now expanded their database. This is probably because of some results here in this thread, no ? I could be wrong.

It is actually quite funny how noone ever cared about ms and always used tracking sites and now, since it came back, we all inspect him as some kind of ‘unwanted guest’. I think he deserves kudos for coming back again

EDIT there is just one thing i would be interested in. There seem to be happening a change in masterserver getservers query somewhere during 2.55 and 2.6b. Is this true and why was that changed ?

(avery) #118
Is it this one ? => 109.70.149.12:27930 Can’t find this one either.
Sorry for the late response. Nope, not that server anymore! lol. We switched to a US server and the new IP is 66.55.149.127:27960

(acQu) #119

Mateos. Yes this is the case. It depends how you query the masterserver and what string you send. It has option to give you only those servers who have at least 1 player connected and doesn’t send you the empty ones, or you can also ask it for the empty ones. The string goes something like “blabliblub query gimme dem servers with protocol newb empty full”.

If it shows only full servers ? I don’t know. I have seen 24/24 servers or 32/32 servers. If it goes something like 42/40, then it seems not to show.

Question remains: why is the 2.6b client buggy in that regard. Why does it ask only for the “crowded” ones. Maybe a bug or a feature.
