Wolfenstein: ET disconnects me from internet.

(Brutality) #1

Ok, problem is like that: Whenever is start Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, my internet connection gets wiped, just like someone yanked my Ethernet cable from my PC. I lose every connection whatsoever for 4-5 minutes. I thought the problem is in my router. Since i have shared connection, i tried to play Wolf ET at my neighbor’s computer, which is on the same connection as I am, and W:ET worked perfectly there. Besides, last time I played Wolf was about 1 year ago and i had same PC, same modem and router and i haven’t formatted my C drive. I have googled numerous hours and i haven’t had any adequate solution. I’ve tried reinstalling my drivers, updating my BIOS, disabling my antivirus ( i don’t use any firewalls, not even Windows’s wall ), useing different config files on game and updated punkbuster and I’ve done those thing a lot. Now I just can’t figure out, WTF is wrong. You, people, are smart. You know the answer. So, let them rip so I can finally come and pwn you on battlefield!

Tenks mens!

Hmmm, no firewall…

I would advise a reinstall of ET, but I’m not sure it is because of ET that this happens.

(Brutality) #3

Oh, right, forgot to mention. It doesnt start even after fresh install As i didn’t say, I didnt play for year and then installed it again few days ago. Since then i’ve been desperately trying to find solutions.

(ayatollah) #4

I take it you have got all the latest updates after the reinstall, ie, 2.6b patch and new etpro?!

(Brutality) #5

Not ET Pro. But I have 2.60b.

(senator) #6

Have you scanned your computer for any viruses and/or maleware recently? Those can interfer and cause many problems, also try shutting down every unneeded application before running ET. Narrow the problem down until you find the responsible part

(senator) #7

Also, when your connections shuts down… are you diesconneted from the internet but can still reach and configure your router, or is even your router unresponsive?

(Brutality) #8

Done that. PC is clean. Never seen a cleaner one in fact

Btw, I have tweaked the shit out of my Windows. I have closed down all un-needed services and operations. I have only 19 processes running in task manager after i start my PC. Maybe Wolf ET needs some service that is unable to start now and that causes the crash of my internet? Well, I wouldn’t want to undo all my tweaking because it’s a bitch to do.

Router becomes unresponsive for first minute or so and then I can access it. Connection comes in 3-4 minutes after I access my router.

(BondyBoy007) #9

what router are you using? does this happen when you’re connected directly to modem (ie without the router)

There is a problem with certain LinkSys routers where ET would knock the router offline (mine’s affected BEFSR41), I’ve downgraded the firmware on this one and it now happens alot less

(senator) #10

Is your router crashing as soon as you try to populate the online server list? Because then your router might crash due to the unusual high amount of connection requests (pinging all the servers on the list). If that’s the case try upgrading (or even downgrading) the firmware of your router and see whether that’ll help

(Brutality) #11

Umm…I’m not sure what router that is. It was not bought by me. It’s some crappy thing from Sweex but it’s working and I haven’t had a reason to change it. And the fact that I can play with my neighbour’s PC which is connected to the same router is kinda weird.

(Brutality) #12

Damn. I got new firmware for router, rebooted the damn thing, got it working, initiated W:ET and same shit happens. Ugh, me is pissed, mens.

(senator) #13

sounds like you got a WLAN connection than? Try upgrading the driver for your WLAN card, I had (well, actually still have) some problems with my card, too, whenever too many connections are open (or sometimes just randomly) my connection quality gets worse, sometimes I even lose the connection to my router.

What helped a bit was experimenting with different drivers (you could try the generic driver for the chipset, a Realtec?), different WLAN channels or even slightly moving the router around a bit to get a better connection.

After you regain your connection with the router… what happens if you still have ET open? Can you play than? Or wont the connection reset until you have closed ET?

(Brutality) #14

I dont have WLAN  We’re connected with usual ethernet cable. I live in apartment and my neighbour is straight below me. So it’s a no problem to share connection with her. Well…She’s not a big internet user, so she doesnt want to pay the full price for internet and we found it would be much more cheaper for both of us to share connection.

My connection doesnt restore before i exit ET. I just waited about 20 minutes, nothing happened. I’d know because mIRC would start screaming it got connection back.
Btw, I dont even have to open up server listings. I just execute ET, get in, quit right away and then my IRC tell’s me my connection is gone.

(senator) #15

random idea: maybe your router has a firewall and is blocking your connection because you tried to access the internet over an unauthorized port? Can you play other online games? Can you run server software such as webserver or FTP server on your computer?

(Brutality) #16

Random idea is wrong. I can do EVERYTHING else. Host games, run FTP, play everything else, use P2P filesharing and…everything. I cant only play W:ET which is gay  It’s like… idunno what. Someone just wants me not to play W:ET i guess.

I ask again
