Wolfenstein: Enemy Territoryâ„¢ Source Code Released!

(Locki) #1

As a company of former Mod-makers ourselves, it gives us great pleasure to announce the release of the source code for Wolfenstein Enemy Territoryâ„¢ by our Executive Producer id Software and our Publisher Activision!

This Software Development Kit allows you to make your own game modifications/total conversions in combination with the previously-released enemy Territory Level Design Tools (SDRadiant and SDMap).

The SDK includes project files for Visual Studio 6, a ‘Solution’ for .NET and ‘Construct’ files for Linux. You can get it right now from our Downloads Page and then head over to our popular Editing Enemy Territory Forum to find and share Mod-making knowledge.

I love you guys

First, you release ET for Linux. Only that a very nice move. As the Linux community isn’t too privliged with great games. And now, ET becomes OSS. This is wonderful

On a side note, you might want to release the source code as tar/Gzips or something as well

Should try and get a guide of some sort together for wanna be mod makers? Wont be long tho till the usual crap is released: Instagib ET? ET with Panzers only etc… suppose it gives a bit more variety but the creators could be working on bigger things.

Nudges Developers
Now complete those dozen or so half finished maps you got lying around the office. What a clutter!

(Bludd) #9

OK, I come to SD and see a rad new layout, was gonna post my compliments, then I read that ET is open source! WTF, didn’t we just have Christmas?!

:D:D:D

Thanks SD!!!

P.S., I gotta agree w/Piggy about the lame mods to come. May they die in the womb! This great news should only be used for good, and if you use it for evil (as defined by me, of course), then only run it on LAN servers! :stuck_out_tongue:

(CrazyGuy) #10

They can’t b/c they are now working on Doom3 Multiplayer

(Bludd) #11

Hi, I compiled the .dlls and gave them a test run, tried all classes/weps etc, joined a game and played a round, everything’s perfect. But I’m curious about one thing; why is qagame_mp_x86.dll 4KB smaller when compiled than it is when installed from the v1.02 patch? I installed v1.0, backed up the .dlls, patched to v1.02 and backed those up, then used my compiled .dlls, and since all 3 are different sizes when compared to v1.0 but the other 2 are the same size as v1.02, I assume the source is v1.02, correct? If so, what was in that missing 4KB in qagame_mp_x86.dll?

This is just a quick reminder to please post your technical queries about compiling/running the SDK to our Editing Enemy Territory Forum - we’ll do our best to help there.

Thanks,

Paul/Locki.

(Bludd) #13

Ah, whoops! Sorry about that, Locki. I figured the source release thread would be a good spot. I’ll post in the other forum.

Thanks for releasing the source code, it has came at the right time for me.
I’m studying programming so this should be some help for my studies. :)

(sniser) #15

And it’s an ooohhh so nice and sexay way to learn something… I am NOT studying programming so this stuff does my head in (:uhoh:), I don’t get much - but it’s still interesting because I like to play the game. There’s no way I would ever look at such a huge source tree for longer than 2 minutes if I wasn’t so helplessly addicted to the compiled result

(ljbade) #16

cant wait till doom3 comes out… i luv id, and ecspecially SD… who says the best games have to have a bug price tag? the source code could be good for creating competiton mods and fixing up stuff that was hard coded.

(digital) #17

The engine source code when will be released?
