Hello Everyone,
I recently started to see a noticable rise in the amount of packet loss (red bars) in the lagometers lower (Snapshot) Graph.
The snapshot graph is the easiest to understand–it is essentially a graph of the latency (ping) between you and the server.
The graph’s colors provide some additional information: green means snapshots are being recieved in a normal manner (the hight of the green bar is directly proportional to ping), yellow indicates that the snapshot was delayed so that the server would not exceed the rate value, (either rate on your client, or sv_maxRate on the server, whichever is lower), and red, indicates that a snapshot was lost entirely, i.e. a snapshot sent by the server never made it to the client, probably due to network congestion, or improper network settings.
I have been able to hold 125 FPS, for years, with none of the above problems, other than the ordinary occasional lag spike. Very seldom (months between occurances) of any red bars - packet loss.
I am fairly knowledable, and I have eliminatated all the ordinary responses from other help sites, such as:
big downloads while playing ET, additional load caused by new clients sharing my ISP’s bandwidth at this address, do I have WIFI, (I have Cable modem, with no Router), etc.)
So I was wondering if anyone could tell me the recommended or minimum Windows network services and protocals, and settigns for ET to work with Vista, such as:
[ul]
[li]Client for Microsoft networks
[/li][li]QoS Packet Scheduler
[/li][li]Link-Layer Topology discovery Mapper I/O Driver
[/li][li]Internet Protocal Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
[/li][li]Internet Protocal Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
[/li][li]Link Layer Topology Discorery Responder
[/li][li]Etc.
[/li][/ul]
Or minimum settings or diagnostics commands in ET that may help. (Have already used some ET net debug commands, such as: showdropped, etc., but info does not tell what the source of the packet loss is.
I want to give thanks in advance to any who respond: All input is appreciated. Also thanks to Splash Damage for the huge service that they provide to the ET community. thanks again.
Signed,
Frustrated but still Hopeful
