With Doom 4 coming out... Enemy Territory 3...

But Activision still has publishing rights to ETQW? I don’t agree with this logic to make every game FREE but after a few years I don’t think it hurts to get the price down to a must buy level fairly often. I can’t imagine ETQW sells much on Steam at $20 a pop.

Anyway, as I don’t think it warrants a new thread only to tell me to STFU I’ll ask here. When is SD announcing its new game and when do we get a new subforum to argue about it?
[ul][li]Online Version — Normal retail cost, and requires online account (free).
[/li][li]Subscription — Small monthly fee. Required to run “Ranked Servers”, and grants access to Ranked Stats, Character Customization, Clan Stats and Rankings.[/ul]
Isn’t this what happens now? I always assumed that publishers like EA and Activision who only allow server rentals from specific providers were getting a cut.

Quake 4 was released on Steam over Quakecon, so I presume that ownership has reverted back to id/ZeniMax. Based on a similar deal, we only have 2 years to wait before ET:QW drops below $20 on Steam

It’s not the same game as such, and it sucks, 2 rounds of playing were enough to make me uninstall.

Well what I was suggesting wasn’t exactly free… You would still have to pay for a retail account to play the full game online. The ability to play some demo single player content (if there was a single player story-line) and play a few (1-2 maps) of multiplayer, is what you would get for free. This is very similar the ETQWs demo version that was put out (but completely lacking w/Brink), with the differences being more content (both single and multiplayer) and having at least 1 retail version (to act as a server) for LAN play.

Not really. I don’t think you can play either Bad Company nor Black Ops on anything other then their “Official” servers? This model would still allow for non-ranked and custom servers at no additional expense to the owner.
