Window focus problem with 2.60 on linux

(Shango) #1

Since I upgraded to 2.60 I have been having an odd problem. After a server changes maps any attempt to call up the console causes the game to lose focus, I can use the scroll wheel to move up and down in the console log but can’t close the console or control the game.

I am running Ubuntu with:
Kernel 2.6.10 k7
X.org 6.8.2
ET 2.60
I am using KDE 3.4.0 as a desktop environment.

I dug through the KDE configs and my X config and the backtick isn’t set as a shortcut to anything (wouldn’t explain why it only happens after the map change anyway). Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

This started happening with me all of a sudden, its so annoying as you basically can’t check the console ever if you want to play. This was in 2.55 and 2.56. I was using Ubuntu 5.04 as well with Gnome and the same kernel. I haven’t tried 2.60 or the new 7160 nvidia drivers yet since I haven’t had time to play in a month or so.

Just wanted to note that I tried rebinding “toggleconsole” to “c” and it still breaks so I don’t think it is another program or my window manager that is causing the problem.

You don’t happen to be running Xinerama or TwinView are you? I just tried starting the game after switching out of TwinView and it doesn’t seem to happen.

No I only have 1 monitor.

That is an odd problem. As far as xinerama is concerned, i use xinerama with slack 10.1, dropline gnome 2.10, 2.6.10 kernel, no problems whatsoever. Couldn’t ask for a better gaming environment. I assume you’re talking about the in-game console? Or are you talking about the console you possibly used to start the game from? If its the in-game console, thats very strange. If you’re not running the latest nvidia drivers, download them, i currently run the 7174 driver with no problems.

I’ve been having this problem for a long time as well. When toggleing the game console (~) the et window loses focus, but it doesn’t happen all the time. I think the problem started when I upgraded to Xorg 6.8.1, but I’m not sure. It’s a minor annoyance for me since all i have to do is click on another open window, then click back on the et window (giving it focus).

I use fvwm on slackware 10.1 with nvidia 7176 using TwinView.

My card is capable of doing twinview, but i’m using an old voodoo 3 2000 pci card for dual display purposes. Gives me the flexibility of using 2 separate x sessions if i so choose. I might try twinview when i get home to see if i experience the same problems. Not sure what version of xorg i’m using, i know its either the latest or close to it…i’m using 6.8.2.
Not sure what else to try without spending some time on it. Good luck

This problem occurs when the game gets confused about the value of r_fullscreen. Go into the configuration, make sure fullscreen is enabled (even if ET is currently running fullscreen), and apply the settings so that ET does a vid_restart.
