Nope, Ironman/VinWns is not the same person as Daz/Tavington. I think his post was excellent but not made in the style that I would ever make it.

Here’s my assessment of his first post, take a look at these positives/negatives to see the differences between his style and my own…

Positives:

  • he is more mature than me
  • he makes his point superbly
  • he doesn’t express any anger

Negatives:

  • he goes into more detail than I would at that stage
  • he makes spelling mistakes
  • he rambles a bit too much to have general appeal
  • he fails to realise his complaint to Wils will fall on deaf ears

He also spells ‘behavior’ without a ‘u’. This indicates he is American. I am British. He also goes on about cheaters quite a bit, I don’t really have an issue with ‘cheaters’.

Believe it or not, there are others who get this abuse on forums and take a stand against it. Apart from Ironman, I know of at least one other person that this sort of thing has happened to over the past few months.

Have you actually read his other posts? Makes points superbly, like making frequent accusations of cheating on this server or another and not providing a shred of proof. Oh yes, he did provide one demo which proved that the person was doing exactly what the game engine allowed him too. FWIW, in those thread he has started and contributed more than his share of flaming against just about everyone else in the thread. He does write well, I would have expected better of someone like that.

Well, I meant that he makes his point about being bullied superbly.

I don’t know enough about his ‘cheater’ accusations to make a full judgement about that right now. My instincts tell me he somehow felt hard done-by in a game, came here to complain and you guys laid into him because you can’t stand criticism of any kind.

If VinWns wants to come back here and argue the case, I’ll listen.

Since he is probably american, and splash damage british, it’s unlikely for him to have ever played on the Splash Damage server :o

More importantly:
If you’re not willing to investigate the websites you are ‘blacklisting’, then one can/should wonder about how much credibility your own website has :slight_smile:

You got flamed on Planetwolfenstein for taking a stand on an issue without doing your homework. (for the others, based on what I remember, Daz defended Sin (map thief) in a thread where Rummie (highly respected community mapper) was complaining about having his work stolen.

We can’t stand criticism? I think of myself as a pretty level headed, congenial, fair person - but Ironman’s condescending, dismissive attitute certainly came across as “cheaters are rampant, you all are just burying your head in the sand, or are ignorant, holier-than-thou attitude” certainly rubbed me the wrong way. We have had numerous discussions about cheats real and imagined and I cannot think about any of those thread authors who received the same warm welcome as Ironman.

Let me do some background research for you. I did a search for posts by author = I R O N M A N. This is the first post I came across which he initiated.

Note the very level headed, polite, reasonable manner in which he addresses the rest of the community. Based on his point and rebuttal style, it seems like he’s the one who has a problem with people questioning his assertions.

Given that, and making the assumption that most people are reasonable, is it more likely that everyone spontaneously decided to jump on Ironman (including the game developers) or that he was being an ass? I vote scenario 2.

Long story short, he chose to treat everyone here like simple minded children and he got spanked

I felt Sin was being unfairly treated by the community. That didn’t mean Rummie didn’t have a case to answer. The fact is that as soon as I dared to suggest Rummie might be a little over-protective of his work, everyone immediately jumped on me. We never actually got as far as properly discussing the map issue. A shame, really.

Like I said before, I don’t know enough about the cheating issue to make a judgement right now. I’m pretty sure that Ironman has been mistreated here though, regardless of his opinions.

Does anyone have a copy of his ‘cheating demo’? It seems to be a dead link.

Yes, I already have blacklisted Splash Damage’s forums. The only way it’ll be removed is if I get a satisfactory response from one of the staff here.

I HAVE investigated all the websites on my blacklist page. I know exactly what these people are like, and what their game is.

In what way did he mistreat them? From what I’ve read on the Ironman thread that Ifurita kindly supplied, he got a rather frosty reception from everyone.

Ironman’s a guy like me, ordinary guy who comes onto these forums and expects to be treated fairly. He came in here ‘armed’ with his cheating stuff to give himself credibility. Unfortunately it was proved false and he was ridiculed. After that, nobody seemed to give a toss about him because they felt he had little to offer.

The upshot is that what happened DOESN’T give anyone the right, especially a forum admin, to put the boot in. I defend Ironman 100%.

Yet again, as with the Planet Wolfenstein Grim/IRC saga, I’ve been proved right even before I look into the facts.
