Will there be a Universal Binary/Recompile of ET for OSX86?

Just curious, apparently UT2K4 is too slow to use via Rosetta, so I was wondering if someone at SD might have the time to recompile/port/whatever ET to the new Mac platform.

I’m just wondering, it’s not a vital issue. I’d love to see it, though, since the new Macs have finally got the juice (and video chipsets) to really do it up right.

thanks,
fnord

Dual-boot with Linux?

It may also be possible to play the Linux version using Wine or similar.

I know FreeBSD can run Linux programs by using a special setup to make a program think it runs in Linux. This way, FreeBSD admins use the Linux version of ET to host their servers.

Maybe there’s something similar for Mac? The binary code is perfectly x86 compatible, it’s only the kernel and libs that will give some problems.

x86 linux runs ET just fine

motivated osx developers might consider making a linux emulation like the bsd developers did.

I’ve used Macs since System 7 and still do. But a year ago I gave up on the notion of using my Macs for gaming. So I run a PC for games etc but my Mac is still my primary. Without a huge swing of support, it’d be kind of worthless. Developers aren’t going to give it their best in terms of hardware and software support so I’d rather see them just focus on making the PC version run better.

I think Bani’s talking about WINE, or in Apple’s case DARWINE. It will be interesting to see if you can get acceptable game play out of it. I remain skeptical, but haven’t tried it as it’s not quite ready for prime time. There’s also talk of doing virtualization so there can be multiple OS support in all Intel Macs, that sounds like more a possibility. Still, as a Mac user, let me (on bended knee) humbly beeseech the good folks at SplashDamage give a MacTel version a whirl.

no, i’m talking about running linux x86 binaries on osx86, same way the freebsd guys run linux x86 binaries on freebsd x86.
