Will shotguns be totally amazing?

(Deth_Metal) #1

I’m just wondering how the QW shotgun is going to turn out. As a big fan of shotguns in general and especially in shooters, I am curious as to how SD is going to implement them: Will it be a pump-action shotgun with the ability to take down a fully armed Strogg in one blast? (Mind you it’d be at 10 feet, in the head) Or are we going to be stuck with a little pea-shooter that takes 5 blasts to the chest to kill 1 guy and then you’re out of ammo? I’d like to know if possible, but I’m not sweating it so if I have to I can wait.

I hope it isnt underpowered I hate games with weak shottys. But I dont like games with long-range shotguns like Halo 1 where you can hit people with it across Hang 'em High.

shotguns should be able to remove doors

(Zyklon) #4

If they make the shotgun like in Q3 it’s nearly perfect.

No one would use other weapons.

I’m curious how much damage a headshot will deal. It’s possible no headshots will be allowed for shotgun.

I’d say a shotgun will deal 50-80 damage.

Agreed with that. On Halo PC MP the pistol was also waaaaaaaaaaaay too powerful. I can hit players running backwards from the total width of the map. I can barely see the other player and still take’em down. Even while they are in a Banshee.

Hahaha.

Hope there are no weapons like that in QW. That’s a little too much.

Wils keeps killing me with it, if that’s any use. Then again, Wils keeps killing me with the combat knife.

(B0rsuk) #8

Never would’ve thought Wils is a teamkiller !

In order for a shotgun to be right the sound is critical. It gotta make u feel like a killing machine!

(Zombie13) #10

That’s just luck.

Shotgun’s limited to engies only isn’t it?
So I don’t think everyone would use it then. You’d still have rambo medics, arty spammers, and panzer whores. So that’s a fairly balanced team actually;)

But I think as long as the shotty’s a killer at close range but ineffective at mid and long ranges it would be cool. Engies have no business engaging the enemy at long distances.

I agree about the sound. I wanna hear it click as it loads and ejects. And of course a big BOOM once it fires.

(Gringo) #12

Indeed, yeh wanna have a mean sounding BOOM STICK.

I’d say a shotgun will deal 50-80 damage.

Well a shotgun shoots ‘shot’ which is a bunch of small pellets, so I would imagine that it would do high damage to close people and little or no damage to people that are far away due to the spread. The total damage would be shots hit * damage per shot (not per fire). Lets just hope it’s not like BF2’s shotgun and can miss a guy 10 feet away with the your crosshair on them.

a shotgun is a shotgun, what would be amazing about them?? =/

(Deth_Metal) #15

Shotguns are just amazing. That’s all there is to it, to be honest, it’s very hard to explain to the uninitiated… You just sort of have to know that shotguns are amazing, and with what the dev team has said so far, I now know that shotguns will be amazing in QW. I didn’t need anything super specific, just a little dev humour :twak:

I like the sound when the whatever it is called in English (cartridge?) falls to the floor/ground after a shot, in games like HL2 (and most certainly in ETQW too). Klink-klink-klrr.

I liked the AC-88 “Reaper” Riot gun from Crusader: a fast firing, full-auto shotgun. “phee-phee-phee-phee-phee-phee-phee-phee-phee-phee-phee-phee-click” - 2 seconds auto fire, clip empty, all enemies dead!

Shotgun is a specialist weapon for close combat/ urban territory. If you load slugs you can use them up to 60-80 meters, but that s hunting ammunition.
If they r going to be designed anywhere near realism, they r not going to be any use on longer distance. So while they might be fun to have 8 heavy ‘thumps’ in a short time, they won’t really save your life in outdoor combat.

I loved the twin barrel shotgun in DoomII, but its unlikely we r going to get that right?

bah I hate shotguns (usually). I like it in Quake I think… but I know that in Call of Duty they drive me absolutely insane. Of course, in Call of Duty they’re called “Trench Guns” but they’re shotguns… They can be so random at times but I’ve defintely been killed a good 20-30 feet away by someone who barely had me in his crosshair in one shot. Then again… the same person somehow missed 5 feet away so…

In any event I hope they’re not too powerful but that’s obvious. It’s like saying “Man I hope everything is perfectly balanced!”

Man… I hope everything is perfectly balanced!

I don’t see how the shotgun would be difficult to balance. It should be easier to balance than W:ET’s K43/Garand. An engineer with a rifle is an extremely versatile and deadly player. Up close the rifle is pretty brutal. It’s like an uber-pistol. The rifle nades just add even more killing potential; making it a good weapon at any range.

IMO, unless the shotgun is devastating up close, it won’t be as useful as an accurate higher cyclic rate weapon.
