Will DLC see a rise of players on PC?

(Rahabib) #41

Nice to see the TWI guys still havent forgotten the PC players (have you?)

Anyway, the nice thing about RO2 is that it will have an SDK at launch!!! hear that SD? Also, its niche for realism, but its not as unforgiving as a lot of people say it is. I have been playing it since the old UT mod days, and while it was buggy, and its a bit slower in pace, its not like its hard to learn it.

Finally, did I mention there is an SDK. Perhaps if people want a faster paced COD1/2, DOD, ET, style action it could be modded in. I plan on playing with it to slap in a crosshair and turn off free aim and seeing how it plays. Countdown mode sounds awesome and I think W:ET players will be enjoy it (picture CS 1 death per “section” mixed with stopwatch). Sure it wont be competition ready for fast paced combat for a while, especially if there is little support or help but the potential is there. So really the game can be many things, but I hope that the realism doesnt scare people off - its not as bad as you probably think.

Here are more features they added (sorry to hijack)
record, pause, SDK etc. AT LAUNCH. RO2TV, dedicated servers etc. as expected with a true PC game.

August 31st.

Red Orchestra 2 = ArmA I mod. But thats not necessarily a bad thing. Just my opinion.

I’m not sure bout RO2, but RO1 was a mod.

And it sure as hell doesn’t mean it’s bad.

Most of the best games are mods. CS, KF, etc.

RO was originally a mod of UT2k3/2k4. It won the “make something unreal” contest and got full rights to the UT engine.

RO: Ost-Front was a full game not a mod and was made on the old UT2k4 engine.

RO2: Heros of Stalingrad is using the UT3 engine (modified) and not a “mod” any more than Brink is a mod of Quake.

regardless, great games start as mods (CS, DODS, W:ET). But dont be fooled this is a full game and well worth the $40 (screenshots - http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/06/30/the-shell-game-new-red-orchestra-2-shots/)

oh and did I mention they have an SDK? I cant stress that enough. In fact I lied when I said it will be made available at launch because technically thats not true, its been made available for some time. Mods will come shortly after launch - no 3-5 year waits more like months.

No, I didn’t meant that RO is/was an actual ArmA mod, but it looks so much like one. Again, not a bad thing. But that also means its so not Brink as a fps can possibly be. Even far more than ArmA.

PS: I didnt know anything about RO till today. I didn’t even know that this game/sim existed.

Hello Ramm  Wasn’t trying to indicate a small player base by using the term niche - but that IS how most people see RO. I’ve also been playing since the original UT mod version, and have loved it for all these years. I still play DH occasionally, but it’s tricky against the current community of experienced players. Haven’t played Ostfront for some time, I must admit.

Anyhow, thanks for all the awesome work so far, and best of luck with RO2 - I’m buying it for sure  hehe

Ahem - apologies for going off topic here!

A small one that won’t last long and will bring a huge decrease after some time.

Watch it happen. And when it does, you’ll have to go to defense B and say “Oh but not a lot of people play PC anyway”.

(hellreturn) #51

I see less then 100.

(nick1021) #52

The peak is 800. Tomorrow to be predicted 750.

(nick1021) #53

Brink now ranked #96 played game on Steam.

Not bad for a game that came out 2 months…oh wait.

(Kurushi) #54

People are waiting for fixes and tweaks- most of us can agree the core game is solid; we’re talking lots of minor things need that need changing.

Some people round here clearly don’t like the game, they’re never going to be happy, as for the rest, they’re taking a break while SD pull it together.

I personally love Brink but I’ve not played for a week or two, does that mean I’ve deserted it? Far from it, I’m just giving myself a rest before everything falls into place. I quite certain this applies to a big chunk of players, especially competitive players

(nick1021) #55

Minor AND major.

(crazyfoolish) #56

I’m really looking forward to RO2. The way TWI is working with the Rising Storm mod team makes me rather happy. Hopefully SD will fix their mistakes in their next game. I’d say that it’s too late for Brink now :frowning:

[QUOTE=hellreturn;349345]I see less then 100.

You probably have some filter engaged. My average is 80 Servers with at least one or two human players. Around 35 of the 80 servers have more than 8 or ten humans. All in all there must be an average of around 700 Players at most times.

(Tandem) #58

DLC + Brink @QC will rise #'s for sure.

(coolstory) #59

Yup, but if SD doesnt add first person specin, recording demos and many other competative features (pause) the game will die. Especially for quakecon. I hope the game’s really solid by then. If the game’s good and the quakecon event gets lot of coverage and positive feedback, the community will grow fast.

(Esso) #60

No. the players will rise shortly and drop back down rapidly
