Will Dirty Bomb be competitive enough?

WARNING: BAD ENGLISH ALERT :cold_sweat:

Hi.

I have been playing for 2 days already and i played like 15hours and i completely felt in love with the game. I am looking for a fresh new competitive game and I am thrilled. This game has really what it takes to a FPS to be competitive etc…

Although, i have a few questions:

  1. Will SD REALLY support this game? (i.e. organizing on/offline events? keep in touch with the competitive community to make fast updates and such. advertising, big eSport scene around the world. A system that makes the viewers somehow participate by voting or something ( those cases we can actually drop as an example ) while watching a match)
  2. Would the ā€œofficialā€ tourney format be 6v6, 8v8, or something else? ( or both actually )
  3. I don’t know almost all the actual community, but is there an IRC channel where you can gather pcw or something like that? ( well, i know it’s still a closed beta but…! )
  4. SD, do you plan to promote the game mainly as an eSport title?

Well, i think i have enough questions for now, even tho, i would have said much more things if i wasn’t struggling with my english :confounded:

if you didn’t understand what you said, please tell me and i would try to write it differently or something.

Have fun!

To answer your questions very breifly:

  1. SD are really wanting competitive play to take off. They are focusing on making that work and then trying to balance the casual mode around that.
  2. No official format yet - when we have played cups in the past we have mostly played 5vs5 on stopwatch. Works better than 6vs6 as we have discovered.
  3. I guess dirtybomb and extraction still have the most players idle in. However, ts3.trackbase.net:8888 is where everyone who plays competitive hangs out to play against each other. We try get at least 1 5vs5 in a week!
  4. Reserved for SD response

On a side note, if your clan/team has 5 members I have a team of player who want to play often. Can do at least 3-4 nights a week if you’d like practice?

I’m, also, one of those who wants to see this game in the world eSport!

On Twitter we can already see some people interested in this game, like Lauren Scott - Caster ESL

Sorry, I’m not yet able to post links of the source…
ā€œYou have to be around for a little while longer before you can post links.ā€

(LuLNope) #4

To post links before getting proper rank just erase " h t t p : / / " part and it should work. I had to add spaces because even that made that message pop up.

Thanks for the anwsers guys!
I already had bookmarked the TS potty, Thanks for hosting something like that!
5v5 is better than 6v6 → i dunno, it depends a lot of how you play, which mercs you use and such, plus depending the rules people will do in the future, we might expect everything i guess then.
I saw about Lauren Scott and it’s pretty cool to see this, i saw nvc aswell recently, wasn’t he a dignitas pro player?

btw, we are 3 or 4 depending on the motivation so that would be cool yeah! Even if we aren’t really good actually lol ( i never ever played ET )

Just to back the other guys up, yes we would LOVE to see Dirty Bomb go full competitive e-sports status and as long as the community is interested we will support it every way we can.

@Mustywzkiā€Œ
I haven’t played much DB comp myself (two gathers), but I think 5v5 might be more optimal.

The map are smaller and/or area of engagement is much more focused, typically in ~5 seconds you can switch flank/middle/flank.

I also think there is a certain beauty in odd-numbered players per team, as rotations and 2v3 & 3v2 situations can be more exciting than a typical 3v3 standoff.

Finally, 5v5 is easier to organize, get some games going; esp. for pub ranked-matchmaking (really hope this is gonna get in the game!)

In this case, i hope there won’t be any ā€œsalesā€ like in CA prior to the reboot. D:

5v5 is the best choice, for the reasons mentioned by @Szakalot and also the complexity this can put on stage for the Tournament organizers… ā–ŗ Battlefield series 5v5 ā–ŗ CS:GO 5v5 ā–ŗ the most is 5v5

A ranked competitive MM mode will ship on release, pcw, and useful tools, likely as early as OBT on much of it I believe. From there the game will have all it needs to be competitive without SD needing to host events and all that, but I’d expect Nexon events with in-game rewards to be probable- and ofc all those gaming leagues on the net.

5v5 SW is the intention already, but the game will likely change a lot before release so who really knows what it will end up like…

Heya Mustywzki
Your English is great! Better than many native English writers on the net.
Only part you’d really need to change is ā€˜felt in love’ to ā€˜fell in love’.

Don’t feel self-conscious about your posts because they’re clear and readable

(Mustywzki) #14

Thanks everyone!
Anyways, i guess that we have actually to wait for the OBT then, as long as SD does what this game needs, that’s alright i guess

Once your team feel up to it drop me a PM on the forums. I can bring some ā€œdevelopingā€ players to try even the playing field if you’d like!

(Winghaven) #16

Pushing e-Sports is not easy nowadays. It looks like every new title wants to be ā€œe-Sportsā€ friendly but it’s more than that.

Basically SD has to begin with a strong eSports marketing (off-line competitions most likely). I’d personally see that happen :).

Nice to see some old faces around

Lan function is so essential. the only real fps esports is still only CSGO, be frank the rest is just a joke. This would even beat LoL in this aspect. without Lan function, there ll be little lans; and its hard to plan a date for a lan, you never know when game could be taken offline for maintenance. WIthout it, DB cannot be taken srsly as an esport. So better dont advertise about esport anything before this isnt settled.

I am 99% sure there will be LAN support on offer. I highly doubt SD would make a title without letting people host local servers in order to play offline events.

There are far more smaller things i’d like to see implemented for revenue and spectator experience.

I really hope they do support LAN. This would instantly be on the top of everyone’s games list when I host LAN parties. I’m looking forward to that if they do.
