[quote=“Bangtastic;1755”]Lan function is so essential. the only real fps esports is still only CSGO, be frank the rest is just a joke. This would even beat LoL in this aspect. without Lan function, there ll be little lans; and its hard to plan a date for a lan, you never know when game could be taken offline for maintenance. WIthout it, DB cannot be taken srsly as an esport. So better dont advertise about esport anything before this isnt settled.

uhhh, quake?? the original competitive FPS game?
but yes i agree, LAN play eliminates the lag factor making it the most even playing ground possible, which you will never achieve with online play (at least until quantum networking is perfected and adopted by all countries).

the thing that will make or break this game in terms of comp play is class/weapon balance, proper game modes, balanced map design, and a caster like spectator mode.

class/weapon balance is usually fixed by the community banning certain classes or weapons, TF2 comes to mind when i say, 6’s work so well once that item whitelist gets applied to the server.

Game is fun, but couple things that make me doubt this game will have any future:

  1. No anticheat. Xigncode is not an anticheat, its a blacklist program. And no anticheat means tons of cheaters, and there are honestly tons of suspicious people. Its very bad for the community to know that you cannot be sure in anyone. That will lead to alot of drama and even among current ~200playerbase look at how much drama there is already on this forum / reddit. Imagine when game goes open and there will be 10-20x more people at the beginning. This will be hell and forums will be filled with drama, hackuzation threads and such. It will lead to community being toxic and casuals dropping out.

  2. No replays. Unless a person streamed you cant rewatch a game, cant make a good frag movie, cant check if someone was hacking without spectating him live or watching his stream pov if he streamed.

good points gst800, spectator view being laggy/delayed does not help. minimal controls in spectator mode as well (ie - take what cs:go has and build upon it)

demo recording - something i actually had not thought of, but very needed

xigncode is extremely dated as mentioned, and obviously has been exploited for numerous years

unfortunately as the game is built you could not just have a friend install and play competitively with them or scrim, they have to put in the hours for match making - slight inconvenience

eventually, everyone will have the same cards and loadouts as each other and the ‘bests’ will be deemed by the masses while the rest are tossed to the wind. until then - cards play a huge factor, and i do not see that as a huge positive. i would rather that when playing a competitive match each team have the exact same level playing field - and not dependent on silly loadout cards

my 2 cents

I am eager to hear how loadout cards will work, because to me there seems to be a huge problem with the idea of them when considered for the competitive side of DB. Every other SD title which has enjoyed relative success (ET/RTCW) has had a method similar to the merc setup that can be seen in DB. However, as soon as we allow monetization to influence the outcome of games, the competitive scene becomes dangerously unstable, frustrating, and flawed. Yes, we would all be likely to pay a similar amount for the release of another highly rated title by gradually buying different cases/mercs, but this still leaves an unfair advantage in a competitive environment. I think CS:GO has been implemented successfully as a competitive game because of the fact that skins do not alter weapon capabilities.

Therefore, I would propose that ensuring the basic cards that are given when you purchase a merc be the fairest way to give competitive DB a fair platform. This will allow equality, and hopefully result in player ability becoming the main factor. Comparisons could be made here with the removal of experience upgrades for competitive ET. This would also be possible to enforce by cup admins. Not complying could result in disqualification.

Again, just my 2cents, but I think this is a good step towards beginning a healthy competitive scene. As Wing said, great so see some faces around.

Game needs a mod and consistent cash flow tournaments. All the idea are in this thread are great. But the question I have for all of you is -

What makes you think they developers care about your opinion :)?

They didn’t care the past three titles: ETQW, Wolfenstein, Brink. History shows the game is catered to Public play and not competition.

If you’re playing this game for competition it’s because of one or more of the following:
-You have Wolfenstein nostalgia
-You love stopwatch
-You aren’t good in CSGO and or don’t enjoy search and destroy

Questions for the developers:
How can you make a game and not have the option to password protect a server?
How can any random player tweak their config with picmip 8 and play in servers w/o having leaves on trees?
Why do we need to download a program “Nexon Launcher” to set a user name on a forum?

Regardless if spam damage made Wolfenstein; i left it in there because I don’t think those dev’s cared either.

Wo wo wo! they did not make RTCW haha

(If that is what you meant by Wolfenstein, and not referring to ET)

They did however contribute and make maps for RTCW, which were never really even used for competition (mp_rocket, mp_tram and mp_dam) all of which are still considered poor in the eyes of the dwindling community simply because of their design.

SplashDamage should hire an external company to make maps - there are so many opportunities left on the table because the current map pool does not have that “holy shit” factor in any sense of the word.

AKA - relate it to COD/CS, you can have those moments while defusing or a last man standing taking out multiple enemies. RTCW - the document running where all that had to be done was crossing a horizontal imaginary plane to enter a room and the SW round ended. (** Not get somewhere, then hold down a button for ~5 seconds)

None of the maps really have that it factor at all - and to be honest, most of the maps can not be accomplished very quickly at all because you have to wait on the damned EV or parts of the map are cut off and do not allow any ‘sneakyness’ (Underground - gas)

If I had to vote, I’d say make LESS maps with EV because it simply hampers the map design and probably makes the level designers a bit lazier in that regard.

Hello Microwave. I was talking about Wolfenstein 2009.

(WTFProoF?!) #31

They did not make the new Wolfenstein (as in the 2009 version) all the games SD have developed until DB are as following:

  • Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (2003, started out as an expansion to RtCW but was instead released as a standalone free game)
  • Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (2007, same basic concept as W:ET but with more vehicle combat à la Battlefield and set in the Quake universe)
  • Brink (2011, again same core idea but this time without any vehicles and more modern approach to the game)
  • RAD Soldiers (2012, a turn-based strategy game for iOS and webbrowsers)

In addition they also worked on the multiplayers of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Doom 3 and Batman Arkham Origins (Doom 3 being kind of a turd in terms of online play and Batman:AO being pretty fucking sweet).
