Will different body types have different gun anims?

+1

So inovation is one thing !
Bob is an Old man not an innovation !
And I think your vision of games in général is a bit restricted if you see it like this.

inovation is in the team play mechanic, the smart, the background, the design, the sounds, the weapons, the objective style, the customisation and all the new stuff who make BRINK a game, etc …

definitly bob is not a new challenger !

(Apoc) #42

Ill be turning bob off, lowering graphics (except for the sharpness of objects), increasing contrast/gamma etc, pretty much as soon as i get the game.

Never have been one for nice graphics or the fact it “feels like a real person” thing. I tend to just go for gameplay, and make any changes i can to make gameplay smoother

(LyndonL) #43

Bob has been in games for a while… and ever since it has it seems it’s been turned off by you guys… Hence why I wrote that.
Personal preference anyway, who cares. Next thread.

But what if you could play at max setting and still have 50-60+ fps? Would you still disable things?

(.Chris.) #45

Aslong as you can still see what the hell is going on then yeah but most games these days are filled with distracting effects and so on so I turn all that off where I can, turning stuff down for me is more about been able to see properly rather than FPS.

(BomBaKlaK) #46

And FPS to ! under 120 FPS you mouse it’s not fluid !

(Nail) #47

if it was a setting in the menu, would it still be cheating ?

(LyndonL) #48

No since it’s clear to anyone that it’s an option so noone has an advantage that they’re not given a reasonable opportunity to take themselves.
Having to scour forums etc to find how to give yourself an advantage isn’t fair imo.

The vid is old, but Rahdo explains what techniques they are using for bob. He talks about it at 10:30.

There was another older vid I saw where I remember him saying bob can be turned on or off for PC and console. Unfortunately, I don’t remember where I saw it and can’t find it.

Your a fountain of knowledge! Nice one

(Apples) #51

Its fair as long as its not private IMO, we can do the analogy with the knowledge’s access if you want, as long as its public school you can only blame yourself if you dont go and stay dumb your entire life, when its private school with better courses etc but super expensive then it isnt fair, because everyone doesnt have access to the same resources.

Well to me when its free on the net you can only blame yourself for not searching a bit, I’m a uber crap at making cfg’s and allways found kind ppl to enlight me on this and that, the net is crowded with tons of gamer’s cfgs (and even downloadable pro ones -> go to mamut.si site), tips and tricks everywhere, I dont see it as an obscure resource but like something very comon…

And dont tell me you’re not a “scavenger” kind of guy with the time you spend on these forum and searching over the web for Brink articles, just do the same for cfgs

Peace

(.Chris.) #52

Again, in ET:QW turning bob off was on the first page of the options, if someone cant find the options menu in a game by now then they deserve to be at a disadvantage. All the main things you could turn off and on where easily found in the options menu and I can’t see this been any different in Brink.

(Nail) #53

they’re called Console VARiables for a reason, they’re settings that are variable in the console, the developers put them there to be used. If you don’t want to deal with a CLI, don’t play on PC, consoles have the settings you want, we like to tailor our game to our hardware, that’s what PC’s do

(jRAD) #54

In all fairness, its full name is “The developer’s console”, we just don’t happen to lock it down on PC.

(Kinjal) #55
 • .cfg files on PC, will be customizable, and in the words of a dev, they will be, “the most open out of all their games”. - from HORSE blog.

Is it still true? Can i make showgun 0?

(LyndonL) #56

jRAD said it perfectly. CVARs let you do things such as reduce gravity, change hitpoints of enemies and all sorts of stuff…

Ah well at any rate I cbf being a lightning rod anymore passes torch back to H0rse and tokamak lol… feel free to disregard my comments re cheating, Perhaps too harsh

One last stab: At any rate, I don’t find anims offputting at all (decent scan overcomes any blockages to your view anyway unless you’re a  camper).

(DarkangelUK) #57

Yes cheater is maybe a bit harsh, but equally so is blaming the user for not knowing cvars such as those harsh as well. I do see it as an advantage over lesser cfg savy players, and would much prefer stuff like that to be in the main menu options… but regardless of my stance, i’ll still edit my config to my own liking if it’s there or not.

Bizarrely, I enjoy writing configs, always have done since Q3 (I had my doom 3 config written before the game was released!).

(.Chris.) #58
jRAD said it perfectly. CVARs let you do things such as reduce gravity, change hitpoints of enemies and all sorts of stuff…
Yeah server side CVARs not client side ones…

A lot of CVARs are cheat protected anyway so players don’t get an advantage from tweaking too much of the game, bob and roll it would seem doesn’t fit into that category so hasn’t cheat protected in past games and hopefully the same goes for Brink.

In ET:QW a lot of the main stuff were in the menus compared with W:ET so I barely had to alter my config manually which was nice, hoping Brink follows the trend as I’m hopeless with configs, a context bind for flares was about as adventurous as I got

(DarkangelUK) #59

yeah it’s cool that ETQW there at hand for everyone to use. I guess I’ve always liked the autoexec for greater control, and always email myself a copy to my gmail to make sure I have a backup should anything go wrong with my PC. I generally accent all of my options and explain what they are in my config, that means if anyone wants to work off of that one they can, and add their own binds to it.

With the game still essentially being idtech4, i’m guessing a lot of the cvars will be the same for movement and general binds etc, so don’t really expect too much work required to get an autoexec whipped up for Brink.

(BomBaKlaK) #60

yes I thinks lot of cvars are the same but I think there is lot more cause of the smart and all the new stuff
We need a Cvar list at the release :stuck_out_tongue:
