Will Brink actually be supported after release?

(Grimhound) #1

I’m new. I don’t know Splash Damage very well past having played the Quake Wars demo years back. Will Brink be supported after release? How much support? How long? DLC? Paid? Free?

(evnted) #2

I hope so.
And from an FAQ on their site, they do not have any plans for DLC, they’re focused on releasing the game. However, when they do create DLC they want it to be worth everyone’s money.

The DLC question is a biggie. Adopt Valve’s model? Milk and honey, everlasting love and adoration from your fans. Adopt Activision’s model? People will burn you in effigy.

If you browse the older threads(pre-piracy crap), you’ll notice a common theme, Splash Damage supports the crap out of every product they produce. They’re a good company who are interested in the game, not the money.

Good, that’s rare now.

After seeing, touching, smelling, tasting and licking the disk cartridge in the local video-game store in my town, it clearly says on the pack DLC download. (XBOX 360 version)

No information has been given on what kind of DLC will become available, but it’s a safe bet there will definitely be some

(BiigDaddyDellta) #7

I’m putting alot of faith into SD, I haven’t played a game that was really worth the time and money since Maybe, halo 3 and borderlands?

Play more Valve games. :magicpony:

SD have always supported their games after release. When ETQW was released, published by Activision and patched already… even though SD were under no contractual obligation to support the game any longer, from their own manpower and funding they released a patch off their own backs and fixed further small glitches when they didn’t have to. The loyalty shown to their following, no matter the size, was noble and demanded respect. This is why I follow SD… they are gamers at heart and understand people like myself.

TBH I prefer the old days of real expansion packs. I don’t mind paying when I’m getting a big chunk of content in one go, instead of a trickle of free content.

Maps and more maps is what this game needs to keep going and I don’t mind paying for them.

The issue with that is it divides the community, which is a very bad thing. It’s how you end up with unpopulated servers. I prefer things where you keep the community together. Support a mapping community. Find alternate ways to make additional revenue that keep people together. You can sell hats. You can have monitors ingame piping out paid advertisements. Do whatever you need to to make it profitable without vivisecting the community.

Valve handles it well with TF2, but then again they also have a constant stream of revenue from Steam to allow them to have the system they do.

It can split the community but make a must have expansion pack and people will buy it. Something with plenty of content that’s as good as retail.

There are a lot of advantages over free content but even Valve are pretty bad at adding maps to their games.

Maps that are trickled out only get worn out well before anything new is released.

TF2 has been going for 3 and a half years strong. Of course a lot of the official maps have worn out. That’s why Valve sponsors community maps and makes them official if they become popular.

I still think the most important thing is keeping your player base together. The minute you split them, your game begins falling apart.

(Weyoun) #15

Very well said. I loved the hell out of ET:QW and SD back in the days. Nearly racked up 1000 hours of gaming and although I haven’t touched it for a long time I can truly say that SD are way ahead of DICE and every COD-crap.

I totally have faith in SD for supporting Brink a long time. Now that they have a respectable publisher and a unique IP to build upon. The future looks bright for me indeed :stroggtapir:  .

I’ve never played a SD game before, but from watching the dev diaries and what not, I have to believe they have every intent to adjust and fine tune the game after it’s out.

They have necvars in the game, which I have no clue what they are (sorry, I’m code-retarded), but they are supposed to allow SD to adjust settings in the game without having to send out a patch through sony then to us. Which means they can fine tune it, change, adjust to their will to whatever we need to balance the game, without having to wait weeks for companies to approve and send out the patches, or making us DL huge patches every 3-4 weeks.

That alone tells me they intend to keep up on the game, let alone without announcing DLC yet.

I agree, keeping the community together is the most important thing but I’ll stand by my word, Valve are pretty slack when it comes to producing real content.

Maps take so much to produce you need a dedicated team of people making that stuff day in day out and that doesn’t come free, so we wait and wait…

(Nail) #18

their intentions may not always be inline with Bethesda’s realities, I think there’s some differences of opinion regarding SDK, DLC etc.

I trust SD to cut us the best deal possible

That’s exactly why I love Splash Damage and I’ll be buying this game on Tuesday. Any other company in this situation would be advertising some DLC package right now that could have been put on the disc. Instead, of doing that SD is focusing on making a complete product then will put 100% of its effort into supporting that product. BRAVO!

The problem is in bethsedsa, not Splash Damage
