In any case, Brink should have been delayed 1-2 months later to finish the game and release when, to my recollection, the field was a barren desert.
You have a point

I should facepalm your pitiful attempt to post a facepalm pic ¬_¬
Brink is the perfect example of why NOT to release something due to whiney people crying for it… because it’s the same whiney people that will then complain about it not being polished.
I firmly believe that Brink had to be released when it did and has to fight hard to carve out its own niche. Iron-out the bugs and make tweaks over time and on the fly, which is what they’re doing. Not sure there’s another way with a brand new IP. Took 3 games for Epic to do a Beta.
Carving out a niche first then work on refining what’s there and polishing. In my mind, that’s the way to do it because you can incorporate more feedback: break away from notions of what it should be in comparison to other games where you are making decisions based on what’s right for Brink. This is the key part that Brink had to establish. Otherwise, it was always gonna be nothing but compare compare compare.
Now, it can evolve based on: What do we do to make it more Brink? If there’s something in another game that seems cool and you’d like to incorporate it into Brink, the question should be: How do we do this but put the Brink twist on it? So that you’re always fitting it into the mold of Brink. That’s what Brink did by releasing when it did. Going forward, there will be less and less comparisons to COD or other objective games like TF2, and more comparison against what Brink already is. We know what it is and what it isn’t and what it’s trying to do. Now the trick is, how to make it better without sacrificing what also makes it unique to Brink, and the game stand apart.

That stance only works if they only care about 1 platform. Take what happened with PC as you will… either believe they thought the PC crowd weren’t big enough to care about, they were too naive and thought the PC community wouldn’t mind, or they genuinely and accidently just ***d up the PC part. If you’re going to release on all platforms and care about all platforms, then no you don’t just release a buggy game and hope to fix it as you go and the players won’t mind.
How much longer will it take?
Takes lots of time. Look at Gears of War 2 for instance. Please don’t ask me to list how many problems there were and all the improvements Epic made over the course of a year and a half to get it up to snuff. As long as you continue to support the product and keep polishing, it has a chance to keep getting better.
Many people like myself already enjoy playing Brink, so we are talking about extra coats of paint, wax, and tightening of screws here, not radical differences. If someone doesn’t enjoy Brink, then that’s where they should try another game. Brink is like a cult. The Cult of Brink. People are playing, especially on Xbox. We play not only because we still enjoy it, but we still see the potential of where it can go and are willing to stay for the long haul. Every time I check the stat site and see all the grayed-out areas on the map, its like a dangling carrot.

Will the stupidity of gamers get in the way? How hard is it to find a game on Xbox or Playstation 3.
Wow dude! You have so much insider knowledge! Are you like the custodian at Splash Damage or something? Hook me up with some cool corporate swag! I love that stuff. Throbblefoot just brought me home a cool new jacket that she got from work yesterday! It’s got a special pocket for my cell phone… now I just need to get a cell phone.

-JJ
No, but I support Splash Damage and do a LOT of research.
Hey, I just saw the [thread=30815] Matchmaking Vote Announcement [/thread] at the top of the page! Don’t forget to check it out because I think it applies to this thread. And let them know how you want them to do Matchmaking in the future or better ways it could be done!

Please type up a list of how you’d like the matchmaking to work/look for Brink! I think this is very important to the future of Brink.
Which means their next game will have parkour!
Otherwise they wouldn’t ask a parkour based game.
