Will Bethesda Throw Us More Cash? (Can we get something new to discuss?)

(Zekariah) #1

I’ve been away for a bit, but came back to pretty much the same forum that I left. SD Forums is a bit like a Soap Opera, really. You can come back months later and still pick up where you left off.

Anyway, so there’s the same complaints. But I’m interested to know if there will be any more content, updates or balancing down the road to talk about. It’s obvious by some of the SD guys comments and posts that it’s up to Bethesda as to whether they can do any more for the game…well?..are they gonna “splash” out on Brink one more time?

Even my poor set of instincts tells me a big fat NO. But does the rumour mill have any more tasty bits of info that may prove otherwise?

:stroggtapir:

They’re working on weapon tweaks right now. Not sure if you missed that. There is a sub-forum above in which you can participate!

Cool beans.

(FireWorks) #3

No word or sign on a SDK or further DLC by Beth.

(Codine) #4

I’d expect there to be more costume dlcs since theres a bunch that are already done but didn’t make it into the final and maybe 1 more mappack. However, I don’t imagine there will be an sdk or a pc patch that enables custom huds or demo recording even.

I don’t believe for a second that they don’t have anybody to work on these, they’re just not caring about the pc version.

Missed that, thanks wolf. I thought our last update was it.

I s’pose weapon tweaks IS doing something for the game, but I’d really like to hear that there MAY be more content in the future, regardless of how far off.

Other than that, they must be working on something, right? They can’t all be working on weapons tweaks. Unless they’re just sitting in the office playing games. Not out of the realm of possibility. In-house tournaments! Kick the boss’s ass.

They are most likely working on their next game.

(starfox) #8

nope, pretty sure they are working on a marketing plan for their next game.

(zenstar) #9

Difference between publisher and developer:
Developers develope the game. Publishers market the game.
I’m quite sure Bethesda are designing another marketing war, but the developers are more likely working on tweaks atm. Possibly working on their next title.
Complete silence on “what’s up next” and word on the street being “It’s up to Bethesda to fund any more dlc” makes me think there’ll be no more dlc.

Perhaps once Skyrim hits store shelves, Bethesda turns back to give Brink some love. They’ve been so focused on hyping Skyrim, and a bit of Dishonored, that I’m wondering why they abandon their other children, lol. Skyrim should be great, but since its a single player only game, I don’t feel the rush to get it knowing in the back of my mind its gonna take forever to beat anyway and tons of time I don’t have these days. I still play Oblivion and chip away at missions because there’s literally hundreds of hours of stuff.

Anyway, lets hope Bethesda has something else up their sleeve with Brink.

Was reported that they started work on Brink about two weeks after ET:QW was released, ET:QW had five patches and I think two maybe three SDK releases post release. They can work on more than 1 thing at same time is what I’m trying to get at.

You’re forgetting RAGE also. With these two hitting the shops in the not too distant future I think as a publisher they would be more inclined to make these a success and concentrate funding on these two titles rather than Brink.

(wolfnemesis75) #12

There’s a reason I left out Rage. (Just kidding, well not really). Rage for me is the ugly duckling of the bunch. Looks cool, but what’s it doing that’s different and special? I’d plunk my money down on Skyrim first every day of the week, which leaves Rage in a void. I don’t want 2 single-player only games, when I barely have time or patience for one. Racing cars through the desert with guns? I can wait on that game until its a quarter the price. Rage is the epitome of a gamefly rental. Just my opinion. Hoping that once the dust settles, Brink gets a little more love. I could live with 1 more map pack of four maps for Brink, even if that’d fall short of what I’d really want which is at least 16-20 maps total, so 6-10 new maps. Oh well.

(.Chris.) #13

Rage is made by id, a lot of people are going to buy it simply because of that, it’s their first inhouse game since Doom3 I believe, both parties involved are going to make a big deal about it.

(zenstar) #14

I must admit my interest is piqued by it, mostly because of id.
But I’m also reluctant to pre-order due to publisher and the fact that it seems so far out of id’s usual stable (I want more strogg dammit). And it’s yet another “post apoc” title.
I’ll see what happens post release.

But I agree with you: Beth will focus their attentions on Skyrim and Rage now. If they have surplus attention then Brink may get that. If not then…

(wolfnemesis75) #15

Rage would’ve been a better splash if it had come out before New Vegas. (Which I am planning to get still) How many post-apocalyptic titles does one need? And Rage looks like Cliche Post Apocalyptic, rather than the 50ish style twist that makes Fallout neat. Not hating on the game. Just think its a year too late in terms of interest level. For me. I’d be more inclined to wait for Borderlands 2 which is in the latest gameinformer and looks different. I don’t buy games just because its id or unreal or frostbite. You know what I mean?

The game has to stand out a little more because I have short funds to spread around. I buy 5-8 titles a year, and already bought 5! I have 1 pre-ordered and a few more planned for Xmas. Hard for Rage to make the list for me.

My tastes have changed for single player focused games: I don’t have as much patience for them as I once had when I was a kid. I could spend hours grinding away at an RPG just to level up my dude even before starting the first campaign quest so I could be a boss the entire game. Now, I just want to talk to people while I play and have the encounter feel different every time instead of one dungeon after another, and that’s a multplayer game. After a while in Oblivion, its like, do I want to go into another dungeon? Nah. I’ll just kill some Imperial Guards instead and see how long I can get away with it. Same thing with Fable 2. Kill everyone in the town even my own children and wife if they get in my way!

Hopefully, once Beth gets Rage over with, they can spread some more love our way. (Brink)

(zenstar) #16

Yeah. Agree with this. Borderlands 2 is going to be a ‘must buy’ for me. I enjoyed the first one so much and (as you say) it has that different style. Not just the graphics but also the kind of zany future thing it has going (even though it’s not true post apoc but rather more of a scifi frontier planet).

I’m happy playing single player if the game is good though. I got Deus Ex and that is amazing even though it’s not multiplayer. Already logged a good few hours into that and forsee a good few hours more going in.

As for Rage: I’m happy to wait. It hasn’t grabbed me and I’ll see what people have to say before I look into it. There’re still plenty of other things to amuse me.

Ofc this also means if Brink gets no more attention I’ll probably drift off completely too. Too many games, not enough time to wait for possible promises of possible dlc in the future that could possibly be badly handled again.

(wolfnemesis75) #17
text.
A bunch of my Brink clan members got Deus Ex and are loving it too. I wanted to wait on that one because every time I buy a stealth type game (Deus Ex is stealth right?) I get frustrated. I just want to make a ton of noise. I played around with Dark Athena for a while and was having fun with that. Got it on the cheap when a Hollywood video was going under.

I’ve ear-marked Bioshock Infinite as my must-buy. It looks unique. And is taking some risks. The original Bioshock was EPIC. Loved that game sooo much. Rage looks cool. But, like I said before, I can wait. It doesn’t grab my attention like even Dishonored does which looks neat. There are some other titles I am also more intrigued about, like the Tombraider reboot. And the new Batman game. So, its hard for Rage to find a place in my Xbox. Especially since I’ll be playing a ton of Gears soon. I’ll be splitting time between that and Brink. If Brink gets some more love, I’ll have two team-based games to keep me happy for a long time. When I rage-quit Gears (everyone does or you ain’t trying) I’ll pop in Brink. I might give Battlefield 3 a look-see if enough of my friends jump on board that one and I feel left-out. Otherwise, I’ll stick to Gears and Brink.

(wolfnemesis75) #18

Oh yeah, I forgot Dead Island. May pick that up too! No room for Rage. But room for more Brink, obviously.

You don’t have to stealth in DE it’s just an option. Personally everyone told me oh you have to stealth around or your toast. I set that bad boy on hard and have gone out of my way to make sure I kill every hostile possible and without any stealth kills. I do use a silencer on my pistol now, but I just picked that up and I’m already a good bit through Hengsha.

I remember Thief II (Awesome Game, imo) and you got yer ass kicked if you tried to take on too many enemy or even a single enemy guard who wasn’t drunk and singing.
