Widescreen--I wish!

(MERLIN-UK) #1

Hi, iv’e been playing ET for ages on my desktop, all fine and plays great on my 28" wide monitor. Problem is when i transfered the game to my widescreen laptop it only plays in an aspect like 4:3- compare old tv to widescreen, I can’t work out which setting is controlling the aspect-- any guru’s with an idea?

Cheers, dunx.

The fundamental aspect ratio can’t be changed.

It’s a choice between 4:3 letter-boxed (correct aspect ratio) or 16:10 (stretched).

/r_mode -1
/r_customheight 1200
/r_customwidth 1920
/vid_restart

works for me

I suppose this is a error??

Try other sizes, give a screenshot of what you tried (open console),…

Vage explanation tough

works for me

For me to ( but not in a config?? :S )

Hmm. I must’ve been thinking of the menus and stuff. Those are stretched, right?

(stealth6) #7

yes, ET just stretches the graphics like loading screen

Sorry guys- i’m no programmer, I tried typing all that into the game console but it just reverted to the old screen after a few seconds, it’s strange because upstairs on my desktop it plays fine in wide screen and with my eyesight it’s great.I copied the entire game file onto a stick to transfer it to my new laptop and though it plays fine it wont stretch to the widescreen format, (im a oldie so go easy on me!)
That said, out of all the games i’ve ever bought and played rtcw-et is still the best, most playable game ever.
Cheers for the patience!
Dunx.

I just make a quick cfg file, do you want it? :stuck_out_tongue:

(if you don’t know what it is, ask :p)

Just remove the txt at the end ( couldnt attach a .cfg) znd run it, you might want to change it to your own measurment,s just open it with notepad.

Thanx for your help guys but i’m such a numpty I think i’m destined to play it on my laptop as it is. I’ll keep trying but it always seems to revert to the default size. The in game settings resolution makes the screen smaller.
I dunno- maybe i’m too old for this technology
lol- i’ll keep playing anyway.
cheers, dunx.

You have a clean install, tried the cfg, and have latets graphic card drivers? :stuck_out_tongue:

(MERLIN-UK) #12

Yes I may try the new install route- i’m just lazy.

I’ll also test the graphics cards to see if the drivers are up to date.

I’m off to China :armadillochase: for a few weeks on friday so can’t be bothered messing at the mo’ just in case i knack my laptop before I go

I’ll try it in earnest when I get back,

Cheers, Dunx.
