Why you slowing Russian version?

(Glottis-3D) #181

Got confirmation from DD that RU-version will be the same gameplay-wise as Nexon version.

  1. Will different version of the game in different regions - or rather, whether our version of the game differs from the European in terms of gameplay / balance and etc…
Coller: No, everything is identical. "

It is google translated, plz dont think, that my engrish is that bad… =)

They changed their minds then?

I also like your questions, DD will use HackShield instead of XIGNCODE3.

(Glottis-3D) #183

prbbly yes. the reason was not ventilated. but seems to me that they dont want SD to make 2 versions - will take too long.( and since we have 3rd publisher prbbly 3 versions???). So they decided to make 1 version.
we… won…
/me dies in peace.

/me resurrects himself.

we still need to get rid of region block though…
and other good things to do!!

(Mustang) #185

I wonder if it would be feasible to have a hidden(ish) menu option called “enable global servers” or something, this way every publisher will have only their customers by default, but for those that wish they can toggle it on and connect freely to any available server worldwide, it could even display the city/country the server is hosted in (although this would be a nice feature to add regardless of incorporating differing publishers or not).

(Glottis-3D) #186

yes, i’d like that a lot!

(stealth6) #187

At least 1 step in the right direction.

(PixelTwitch) #188

Personally I can imagine you having cross region play in “private” friends only matches (Scrims/Matches) but keep public and matchmaking region locked. That way you could allow the small deviations in mechanics/speed but allowing these private matches to choose region version to play on… The problem I see with this is that people from other regions will start wishing they was playing the other regions version so I dont know how you would handle that.

(Smooth) #189

All the regions will be having the same gameplay balance, there won’t be minor differences

(Dragonji) #190

All 3 publishers would need to release game updates at the same time (not saying it’s impossible but with lack of professionalism it is ).

(Mustang) #191

No they wouldn’t, you just show the servers that are running a compatible version, if one publisher is slow you still have the two others.

Cross-region support is coming, we just need to work out the kinks. :stroggbanana:

(slanir) #192

Does that mean faster development cycles now when they don’t have to split their attention between different versions of the same product?

(Hundopercent) #193

Happy to read this because that whole different versions but still be able to play with each other was a bunch of crap.

(Kinjal) #194

professionalism? Here you go

(Glottis-3D) #195

well, it is finally over, friends.
Hi Guys

There’s a few issues in this thread I’d like to summarize and address. Sorry for taking so long to reply.

…why is their game balance different to the western version?!
Our ultimate aim for the game has always been to build a faster paced PC-centric urban combat game focused around teamwork in order to offer players something different from the current crop of shooters out there now. We’ve partnered with the best companies we can in each region to publish the game and to use their local knowledge to make the game successful there.

Destiny’s team came to our offices about a month ago and presented the case for making the game more accessible to the Russian/CIS audience by adjusting the weapon and movement handling. We do not know that market, which is why we are working with Destiny in Russia, so we have to trust their opinion on this. We’ve agreed to let them make these changes, as their support gives the game the best chance of success in the region.

Anton (Cooller) has been tweaking some of the movement and weapon stats in order to make something that suits the majority of players in Russia and CIS. It is Destiny’s final decision on whether they will stick to these changes. As Destiny are in charge of operating the game in Russia/CIS, any comments about the game should be directed to their Closed Beta forums. Both of our companies always ready to listen to your opinions, and the changes are being tested in stages, so there is plenty of chance to have some input.

Nexon are completely on-board with our vision for Extraction in the west (check out MoneyPenny’s posts, and Smooth is balancing all of the weapons values (he has been discussing these here). We’re continuing to tweak abilities, movement and weapon speeds in order to make a fast-paced team game that is different to other FPS games on PC.

At this point, Destiny are publishing a version of the game called Dirty Bomb, and Nexon are publishing a version of the game called Extraction – the games will continue to be the same at their root, but with balance differences.

…but the Russian version has more stuff than ours!
Because of the differing publishing processes, QA cycles and platform requirements between Nexon and Destiny, sometimes we will ship feature updates in one region before another (e.g. the current Destiny build currently has a newer front-end menu layout than the current closed alpha).

This is kind of annoying for everyone, and a significant production challenge on our side (managing two builds, two separate QA processes etc), but it is our aim to bring all features to all regions as quickly as possible and with minimal lag.

…will we be able to compete between regions?
We’ve always wanted to support competition between regions that are hosting the game, but this is obviously going to be difficult with different balance values between Dirty Bomb and Extraction. Destiny will be supporting Dirty Bomb as a competitive game within their operational region, and Nexon will do the same for Extraction in EU/North America/Australia/NZ. We’ll be working with Nexon and Destiny to investigate how to make cross region competition possible post-launch.
