I wish district 9 made sense…
Why the security is not as bad as they seem
The premise is that aliens with huge antigravity mothership, personal superweapons and heavily armed mechs will work as target dummies for food… And that’s hollywood’s take on apartheid…
C-c-c-c-combo post!
I suppose I should stop ‘being a dick’ per se and actually lend to the thread.
The main reason for any choice of faction for me is purely based on map and objective. I prefer to attack than defend, so will float towards that for selfish reasons. As for the factions themselves, I prefer the colour pallet and widely diverse outfits the Resistance have at their disposal. The screenshot of the chap that had the Predator-esque look about it convinced me that was the way to go (big Predator fan). As for moral reasons? I think i’ll need to wait for the game to decide that!
I have similar reasons
Except I’m a bit picky on which maps I like to attack and defend on.
As for the faction, whichever one is least popular. You know the whole 10 people in spec waiting to join GDF deal!
Moral reasons? I dunno, Ive never bought into the mythology of any game. I’m a guy who likes to follow rules to the letter, so security would seem like a logical choice. But one does not know the extremes they will go to when their “children are starving” cough
I’d like to explain the premise in detail but let me put like this for now, if you’re at sea and your boat needs to be lightened, would you throw away your money or the food?
That makes sense from a gameplay perspective but don’t you think it’s best to look at the story/setting from all possible angles to appreciate it best?
Yeah, that was basically the only point I was trying to make.
If I landed on a primitive island, I was violent by nature (just look at my stash of firepower) and I didn’t have food, target dummy sounds like a great idea for earning my Darwin award.
As someone that likes a good meaty story to follow, i’ll definitely be trying to get the most I can from it… also the reason why i’d like a novel to help flesh out the universe as well. There are, however, people that just don’t care about the story and just want to play the game, or lean towards something cos it looks cool. I’m pretty sure this screenshot has won the Resistance a few more followers.
Meat, flesh lean, is that intentional?
Anyway the point isn’t interest in the story. Siding with one faction doesn’t mean the other faction is any less interesting, it only means their ideals conform less to yours.
They explained that in the movie, these aliens were just the drones of the more intelligent leaders and the ship was probably a communal pod broken from the mothership. The father alien clearly was much more intelligent than the rest.
And obviously those aliens at the weapon testing weren’t volunteers.
Which is, ofc, an even better portrayal of blacks in safrica… But isn’t it good that the white man was there to lead them out… and the blacks in the movie (the non-prawn ones) want to drink blood and gain magic powers (or weapons, same dif [Oh, the savages?!]). Good stuff.
Funny how that happens.
The security are not that bad because they’re protecting civilization. Yeah, theres people starving and thats bad; but everyone dies, and if i had to choose between the homeless people dieing earlier then is natural or educated people dieing earlier then is natural, i’d choose the former, even if the homeless people outnumbered the educated 10 to 1. We are not talking about simply protecting simple luxuries in life like tv’s and computers; we’re talking about our entire culture that defines us being endangered. We would be setting humanity back thousands of years; not simply losing technology, but losing poetry, novels, paintings, would be lost; they would be a couple more seconds of fuel for fires. Tens of billions of people died to bring us where we are now, sacrificing it to save a couple thousand is the greater injustice.

It’s funny how you assume that none of those homeless people could possibly be doctors, engineers, scientists, teachers, or simply just educated humans.
where did i assume that? if all the resources are spent on keeping as many people alive as possible, then you’re going to lose everything that is not revolving around that. Its not about the individual, its about the lifestyle. In a ghetto where everyone is struggling to find enough food to survive, even if there are scientists in the ghetto, string theory is not going to survive multiple generations, the first couple generations, they might try to hold onto some of the most basic knowledge, but eventually the information developed through our society would be lost almost entirely. Think of the amount of time adults in western society’s spent in schooling; that would be impossible in a ghetto; almost all knowledge would be lost the very first generation.
The thing you’re failing to see is that the “ghetto” is the creation of the very establishment fighting against its inhabitants, as is the Resistance.
Through deliberate lack of care for the refugee’s and their shelter, The Founders/Security “gave birth” to Container City. After all, they were only supposed to be temporary housing. Also, by deliberately refusing to distribute rations equally, and forcing refugees into manual labor and less than adequate living conditions, The decisions/actions of the Founders/Security are the underlying reason(s) for the formation of the Resistance in the first place - it’s simple cause and effect.
It’s like they say - If you play with fire and you’ll get burned.
The prawns aren’t shown to be violent, it is stated that the cache of ‘weapons’ they had were probably mining tools. Also, the prawns had become ddfd in the absence of a leader (hivemind?).
Secondly, a long period of starvation and being confined in a claustrophobic place had broken them. It was in their desperation that they had made contact with earth, given how there had been no contact in the past. And since they arrived on earth because of life on it, would you think that they’d go Mongol over the 7 billion homo sapiens?
or perhaps they were just masochists.
Edit:
I don’t think man has the right to play god and decide who to kill and who to let live no matter how dire the situation. History holds proof that no good comes from mankind’s vanity.

the ghetto is the creation of way too many people living in an area capable of comfortably supporting a tiny fraction of the number of people. The refugees created the ghetto. Whether the founders share equally or not would not effect the existence of the ghetto.
oh hell, this idea, whether it is directed towards brink the game, or meant generally is totally off…
i don’t wanna be a smartass but one may consider this position quite offensive, pal

except, thats complete BS. You don’t support ever taking people off life support until they die? Taking someone off life support is judging someone’s life and determining who to kill and who to let live; exactly what you said you’re against.
even the most basic concept of modern society:laws, is basically judging lives and says a life where the individual does X deserves to be punished in Y way. Society revolves around valuing and judging individual lives.

its a fact of the game… They have said the ark is supporting many times more people then it was designed to support.
