There’s been so many threads about how the loadouts suck and “SD sucks” and “why do they hate us” etc. But it’s actually a good thing they chose the loadouts they did, at least for me. Yeah, if I was buying them as bronzes from the store I would NEVER buy those louadouts, they just aren’t the best. But I have honestly really enjoyed playing with the Arty and Stoker cards a lot more than my normal loadouts and here’s why: it’s forcing me to adapt.
I have to think differently about how I play these characters as opposed to my typical loadouts for them. I needed to evaluate my playstyle and change it to take full advantage of the perks I did have, not the ones I wished I had and I honestly have become a better player for it.
For example, take Stoker. I play his obsidian much more like a secondary engineer. We went a full half defense on stopwatch on Underground without an engineer because we realized we didn’t need one. I was a fully equipped for combat secondary tier engineer and we dominated. I had to change my typical agreesive playstyle to make this work though, I had to think defensively and protect myself and focus objective. It was so much fun and I’m happy that I didn’t get the loadouts I wanted because of that. I think we could all take a look at the loadouts that “suck” and force ourselves to play them to find new ways to play the game. Pretty sure that’s why augments are a thing in the first place.
Why the "Bad" Loadouts for the Obsidians is a Good Thing
I cant see any good reason for a paid cosmetic to be fixed with a specific loadout. I dont think the obsidian loadout sucks and Stoker’s design is fine but I wont buy them neither. I would rather see obsidians allowing to choose the perk combinations from any bronze loadout, so the money invested is not subject to balance changes and meta shifts.
Remember ReV and the Proxy obsidian? People prayed for Hochfir card but got RNG instead. Some were happy, and some got shotgun cards.
If these new cards were RNG too, people would be pissed from getting Fletcher cards with shotguns.

I’m not saying that picking your own stuff wouldn’t be better, but I think it’s better that they chose uncommon loadouts if they were going to just choose one loadout (which is what they’ve done with every Obsidian so far). I’d rather be able to choose my own but the ones they chose are not the awful thing that people are making it out to be.
Also, why would you want to limit yourself to “only the best gear in the game”? You’ll never get any better if you only use the guns that are considered op and only the loadouts that are considered to be “the best”. Challenge yourself and play some loadouts that aren’t great and you may be surprised at how much better you can get
Or they could offer 3 different variants, one of each primary. I know what guns I like, I’m not going to buy something I know I don’t like.
The only reason I see it as a good thing is because it keeps the cobalts for these mercs valuable.
If they made the obsidian Fletcher A31 or BL32 for example, every person that worked hard trying to get that card in cobalt would feel like SD cheated on them.
I know I would feel horrible if SD releases an obsidian F82 Aimee after I finally got it in cobalt for her. And god imagine the salt if we get an obsidian 383 Sparks.
The obsidian Aura BL41 we got is already kinda unfair towards people who got a cobalt BL41, but it’s not that bad because the cobalt skins are better, but with incredible skins like the elite operatives it’s better to get bad cards than good cards. Or just a blank card that you can combine with a cobalt. Or even RNG but I think I’m on my own for that one
Makes sense, but still they should probably separate skins from loadouts. I get that it probably wouldn’t earn them as much money though.
They would earn more money if they let us choose. Like my money for instance.
if they were the A1 top end cards…then the whiners would scream “OMG P2W!!!11”
Give the best loadouts in pay-only cards: “SD U SUK THIS GAME IS PAY 2 WIN WHEN I HAVE TO RNG GRRRRRR”
Give mediocre loadouts in pay-only cards: “OMG SD Y WULD U MAKE PPL PAY 4 THIS SHIT U SUK”
Sounds like y’all need to find a different game.
The augments aren’t even important in anything but Ranked
I’m just begging we get these kinds of skins on no-augment cards so I don’t have to keep using the default cards.

im curious what the SD reason for not giving the option to choose loadout

They clearly hate money.
Played ranked to have 2000. Buy those expensive and probably will never be used loadouts to show my final support for this game.

Stoker’s loadout is the only one I can justify paying $$$ for the skin…
The rest are @$!# loadouts but awesome skin
