Why proxy is winning

(Dysfnal) #1

It’s not just because she’s a noob friendly (ish) merc, there’s more to it…
A lot of the experienced players are trying out overwatch
Execution is heavily engineer biased, and a surprising number of people play that more, there is also little reason to play a merc with ammo support in execution, as there isn’t an ammo shortage problem most of the time
Noobs will undoubtedly kill themselves much more often with Stoker than with proxy
Noobs don’t understand that if proxy is the culprit, they will miss out on a lot, as many who grow more experienced will see the greatness of Stoker, and the futility of proxy mines

(MadMorpho) #2

Well then it’s a good thing that Stoker has regained the lead, no?

(Monty) #3

Let us hear what you have to say…

As are a lot of the newbies. In fact, many thought stoker’s attempt to beat proxy was due to ‘newbies trying out’ Overwatch.

I would argue the opposite, as in my experience the Execution game mode is least biased towards engineers. The easiest way to win a round of Execution is to simply out live the opposition - which makes medics a far more beneficial choice for you and your teammates.

In fact, even a jar of vaseline that knows where to throw that heartbeat sensor is more useful for the team than a proxy that beelines to her death, or fletcher that hunts sticky kills, or bushwanker who keeps moving his turret all day and night. Even if our engineers can score a few kills, usually the surviving medic revives the entire team.

As for ammo, if the round drags past the one minute mark, then people usually start to run out of ammo. Another clip left for primary against a player stuck with secondary or melee gives you an advantage. (Not to mention that extra ammo can be given right after spawn.)

Stoker throwing a molotov to his own feet is no different to proxy whose own mine explodes at her feet. But, stoker’s weaponry is very similar to that of skyhammer, which makes it the easier mercenary to jump into. At least when compared to proxy’s choice of shotguns and Hochfir.

I am getting close to that level 50 myself and I have been using Proxy since I started playing, it was on free mercenary rotation.

As for Stoker; it has very good augments, some that I would like to see on Skyhammer. Nevertheless, I primarily play on Objective and Stopwatch modes, and Stoker just doesn’t have that EV stopping power. It is just so very easy to escort the EV through a molotov.

And sure, the molotov has its uses in area denial. But it is a fear that is always clearly visible. A mine could be just behind a corner, you have to slow down and listen for the beeps. You have to stop and risk the enemy finding a sitting duck. Or you have to sprint and long jump with a hope that you escaped the blast, only to be put down by a stray bullet. And even if you dodge one mine, the question is, where is the second?

And yes, some places are obvious for mines. But if the teams are balanced, which happens more often thanks to the minimum level 10 and 20 servers, you do not necessarily have an opportunity to deal with it beyond stepping into the mine to clear it.

But anyhow, just my two cents. Give or take.

They play her because:
-she’s noob friendly
-mines are strong af
-she’s only 30K Credits
-she’s an Engie
-she’s fast
-she has strong weaponry
You can throw mines and forget them. You don’t need to actively do stuff and you can get cheap kills. The times I played her it’s just pretty cheap.
She’s simply a beginner merc. And I understand why people like her. I don’t.

(Dysfnal) #5

@MadMorpho is he? Last I checked he was losing again at around 9:30 Pacific

(redruMfloW) #6

you forgot that she is soooo cute <3

(MadMorpho) #7

I haven’t logged in so this is news to me, I should get back to the BBQ.

Yeah. It sucks that the cheap merc who is trash anywhere besides pubs is winning, just because people want to use a merc that doesn’t require a lot of skill. It’ll be a shame if she wins.

(neverplayseriou) #9

@RyePanda the people that disagreed with you must’ve never entered comp

(BerylRdm) #10

@neverplayserious

Seriously?

(Captain_Forward) #11

@Beryl
This isn’t comp, this is a ranked matchmaking.

(neverplayseriou) #12

@Beryl ehh pretty sure I outaimed ur fragger with an mp400 not to mention that u were playing execution Kappa

and like ford said that’s ranked, and everything around your rank isn’t exactly a challenge (personal experience) unless ur queueing at the same times like people such as lightningzor.

(BerylRdm) #13

ehh pretty sure I outaimed ur fragger with an mp400

I’m pretty sure that didn’t happen, but I don’t even remember playing with you. But if you want, we can play together. I like challenges, and you sound pretty confident about your skills

And what were you doing there? Sadly, they didn’t remove execution mission yet :frowning:

Right. I don’t participate in any competitions. But @RyePanda said that Proxy is “trash anywhere besides pubs” and I thought that was the context all along. Ranked isn’t pubs. And I can do very well playing Proxy on ranked.

and everything around your rank isn’t exactly a challenge (personal experience)

What is your rank anyway? Have you ever played comp?

(neverplayseriou) #14

@Beryl personal experience aka the same rank as you (for some reason deranking to a rank with queue times shorter than 10 mins is to hard for db), and I joined execution on a streamer :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

(BananaSlug) #15

@Beryl she is fun, but with good players… they won’t walk into your mines ( no more free kill/useless ability) and 90hp is really low… and shotguns? maybe hohfir is ok, but still, her place is in pubs

i can say that when i played with focused team on ranked, she just couldn’t do anything, i saw her running… sorray my k 121 likes eating proxies

Or, it’s just that she’s actually FUN to play and is incredibly versatile once you realise how applicable shooting your mines is.

Yup…especially a merc who literally is tied for the most special edition cards already…she has the founders, obsidian, and a humble card…oh wait I almost forgot she has 2 alienware cards as well…vs a merc with 0 special cards…

But yes…we’re looking like we’re gonna get yet another special card for a merc swimming in special cards…just because newbs need easy lame kills.

Like…Every merc? Fun is a pretty subjective argument. I played her. I played her quite well. I used this cheap shooting mines “strategy”. I did not find it fun at all. I did not enjoy her playstyle. Other people think Rhino is boring. I find it extremely fun tanking 3 people and mowing them down. I find it extremely fun slowly coming around a corner to 3 squishy mercs and see them shitting their pants trying to hop around in panic.

(Your worst knifemare.) #19

Nope, shes one of those little kids in horror movies that end up killing everyone.

Not cute at all.

(Randomdeath) #20

surprised to say the least. last time there was a fletcher rotation you were luck to get one person that didnt go fletcher. not its a… lets say… “firefight” between two noob mercs
