Why is the Dirty Bomb community, so against kicking people?

(Otter) #1

First off, I know a topic like this could start a lot of flame, so please keep it somewhat mature.

What is it about this game, that makes people not want to kick people, who flat out need to be kicked? Be it someone who’s been afk for a very long time, someone who’s clearly cheating, someone who’s walking around in the back of the map, boosting support exp by dropping ammo or something(because they think that’s faster than giving ammo to teammates) or any action the warrants being kicked from the lobby?

Why does the Dirty Bomb community enjoy playing a team based FPS, with a handicap?

Now that we finally have a vote-to-kick system that works without 100% yes votes, it seems to get just as much use as before, when you actually needs every single person on the team to vote yes, to kick someone.

I played a game today with someone on the other team who was 100% cheating, even took the time to spectate them, rather than just type in chat that someone was cheating, after they went on a nice killing spree. The guy was playing Fragger, using the burst BR-16, getting only headshots, tracking people through walls, and pulling 180° turns to kill people who would come into view, behind him. Even people on his team were saying he was cheating, but of course, he doesn’t get kicked, since that one person on their team wants a free win. Next game comes, and the same people who were saying to kick him, were the same people voting no, since he was on their team now.

I’d say I play at least one game every two hours, where we have someone on our team who’s been afk for a very, very long time, and people still vote no on kicking them. We all have to go afk sometimes for what ever reason, but if you’re gone from the game for a very long time, but staying active so you don’t get auto kicked, you deserve to get kicked from that lobby. If you’re playing with someone, and they go afk, and you’re the one voting no to keep them, since its your friend, you’d honestly be better off kicking them, and then leaving when they’re back, so you two can party back up.

This has never been the case on any other PvP FPS game I’ve played. It has nothing to do with the community of those games being older, or more harsh, or anything. If someone needed to be kicked from the lobby, they got kicked from the lobby. If one person was acting like a child and was wanting to kick someone for no reason, they didn’t get kicked. People played for fun, and also played to win. But having someone on your team who’s cheating, afk, walking around looking at brick walls, isn’t fun, and doesn’t help you win. Even if Dirty Bomb has wonderful brick walls, and you all should give them a look sometime.

What’s your thoughts? What’s your reasoning for voting no, when any of these options come up? Do you think the vote-to-kick needs to be changed again, so something like 50% yes is needed, rather than the 60%-70%(I forget the exact percentage that is needed, after the changes to the vote-to-kick system) it is right now?

Personally before voting i check the score tab. Because way too often people try to kick newcomers that are doing badly. That’s plain BS, and i’m against it. As for cheaters and idlers, those are different situations. In the first case people may want to win the round for whatever reason, in the second case they may haven’t notice they are afk. Personally i vote yes against both.

I totally agree not kicking someone who’s new.

Dirty Bomb is a mostly casual FPS, and should be played for fun. Just because someone isn’t pulling 10k score, doesn’t mean they should be kicked, which is why I didn’t include that in my examples, but rather gave the example of people walking around behind spawn, doing absolutely nothing, for a very long time. Even if you’re new to the game, if you’re doing that, you’re not only hurting yourself if you’re trying to learn the game, but you’re hurting your team, because they’re now down a player.

Sometimes you get auto-kicked, sometimes you don’t. I know because sometimes, with added frustration I get taken away from DB back into reality for a few minutes and upon my return to my nerd cave I receive a message saying I was removed from the server for being idle…

I then wonder how someone who has been afk for 5 rounds of execution who hasn’t been kicked by the server for being idle yet I only get kicked for being afk for less than 3 mins…i cri evertim.

They should also stop the vote shuffle votes from being cast if they fail after 2 tries, heck if it fails once people should get the idea that the game is not going to get “balanced”.

I also believe people are “reluctant” to kick people due to the fact that they are not paying attention to the top left of there screen. 99% of the time I don’t even notice there is a shuffle/kick vote on until after its time has run out, or at the rare timing of me wanting to change mercs that are bound to f1 and f2, and raging at the fact that the change is not taking effect until I realised I have just accidentally agreed to kick the poor sod who has literally only just started playing the game…rip skyhammer may you never know the delight of getting a multi kill with that weird grenade like object you accidentally thrown by pressing the wrong button, or instilling hope into a veteran player by throwing out all of your ammo packs and gaining a small yet rewarding exp bonus for doing so…

To be honest SD needs to bring these rules to make Dirty Bomb get inline with other shooters in this calibre, even though dB is in quite its own league imo…

Auto-Kick Time : 120 seconds
Ping Limit : <100ms

100ms+ auto kick? that’s bullshit.

Perhaps people are so attuned to hitting “F2” on their keyboard for Vote Team Shuffles? :stuck_out_tongue:

(Mr-Penguin) #7

Well, Team Shuffles never work anyways. It only worked once in all of the games I’ve been in- and the people complaining in chat to shuffle teams still lost.

(BanHammer) #8

Voting Kick System just doesn’t work most of the time. I’ve been voted to be kicked and it reached 7/5 Yes but I still remained in game. I’ve seen votes go like 3/5 Yes and they’ll still be kicked.

Also pressing F1/F2 seems to switch your mercs and when you die you don’t realize you switched mercs. Also, the voting box is small. Splash Damage needs to add a reason for people kicking, hacking, spamming, other.

(SereneFlight) #9

Vote kicking is designed to work only when you’re trying to kick somebody for invalid reason such as “I don’t like this person giving us tips”.

I was in a game where people tried to shuffle me off the enemy team three times.

Yes…
Three times.

Well, since I was in a game in you once, I know that you’re very very good at the game. But shuffling teams just for one player? That seems like a waste.

(stealthyCharm) #12

I like it as it is. I almost got kicked because I idled one round in Execution mode. I was just going to the bath room…

Some people do crazy shit to make sure they win I guess.

He went 67/8 as Fletcher or something in the game I was in with him. I was on the receiving end. :frowning:

People callvotes for a lot of stuff that doesn’t make sense. Somebody will callvote a person who isn’t even in the game yet for being “AFK”. People will callvote constantly if there is somebody on the other team doing well against them (happens damn near every game now). There are people who will insist somebody is cheating when they are obviously not cheating. People call a vote near the end of the match to possibly avoid losing.

For a lot of people it’s simply the boy who cried wolf and most people are acclimated to ignoring the votes. Not to mention the voting box isn’t exactly in the best spot nor does it draw much attention to itself when it’s up.

If the vote kick box was changed to be a bit more noticeable and it allowed you to put in a reason why you were kicking it might work more often. But almost all of the time I run into people calling votes that shouldn’t be called. Then, a lot of times, those same people will call the vote over and over again as well which should be fixed. You shouldn’t be able to call multiple votes in the same game that fail.

Feel thy wrath.

I forgot to mention they actually DID shuffle three times. They shuffled me from defenders to offenders to defenders to offenders.

(MarsRover) #18

You can’t blame them for that. There is no counter anywhere that indicates how long a player has been in the match. So how this goes - you die and start to spectate, you see someone in spawn w nearly zero XP, you call a votekick. It’s the game’s fault for early spawning joining players.

Yes, lack of this and binding voting to F1-F2 makes the system facepalm worthy.

I don’t know about team shuffle but you can’t call another votekick for the same player for some time. Which is lovely because the first votekick is basically just an announcement and the second has much higher chance of passing.

I can’t understand people going afk for longer than a spawn wave. Please don’t be a dick and press Esc->Main menu to free up your slot.

(god1) #19

Most people still don’t even notice whenever someone calls a vote.
It’s a f2p game, you shouldn’t expect the people on your server to have brains.

(Jostabeere) #20

People think a win is so important and will do anything. Or otherwise they’ll die it seems.
I don’t know why, but people don’t use their head at all.
One time I tried to kick an AFK and 3! guys from my team capslocked at me in the chat: “IF YOU KICK GIM WE BE ONE LESS AND LOSE!”
It is a problem with the community.
