Why is ET Free??????

And why did they not carry on with the SP portion of the game?

Could it be to do with trying to get DOOM3 out as fast as possible but with the highest quality of course so more people were needed on DOOM3 over ET single player?

Consiperacy theorys running wild lol

Like most conspiracy theories, it falls flat on it’s face. Neither id nor splashdamage wasn’t doing the ET single player, mad doc software was.

Now pardon me, I have to go put on my tinfoil hat and signal the UFOs before the black helicopters come for me.

Yes… I understand that… but the question to the thread is “Why is ET Free???” and one of his theories was “Because it’s unsupported.”
:fiesta:

I already helped answer why it was free… 2nd post in…

The fact that the MP aspect of ET was released for free is the best advertising I can think of for SD. Talk about endearing yourself to gaming community. It shows the talent of SD as a whole and because they were able to do their part and make a solid MP even though the project as a whole failed. Now they are working on the next generation Doom3 type stuff way ahead of the pack so IMO, it was a smart decision.

Also, I wouldn’t say ET is totally unsupported. There are these forums, tons of fan and clan sites, a custom map editior, and so on.

I think the gaming community as a whole will be seeing a lot more of SD in the years to come.

In my opinion Activision had 3 choices:[ul]
[li]Drop the game, since the (single player) game isn’t finished. But that would be a wast of money.
[/li][li]Publish only the finished multiplayer part for a low price. But that wouldn’t be very profitable: package and distribution are not for free and how many people would buy a multiplayer only game (except for those RtCW addicts)? And the support isn’t for free too.
[/li][li]Let the game out for free (with no support though). A lot of players will download and play it. The name of the Wolfenstein computer game series is spread through the whole communitiy. And when RtCW2 or ET2 comes out (<prayer>there must be a sequel</prayer>), there will be alot more people who know Wolfenstein and they (maybe) will buy the new game(s). And at least you can sell the rights to publish the game to some computer gaming magazins without having any additional costs.
