Why I returned brink: an FYI to splash damage

(dommafia) #21
I’ve gone from firing up Brink as my game of choice every evening, to Super Street Fighter 4 as my current go to.

I put Brink in once a night to see if there are any games going, but I honestly can’t find more than a couple of rooms at a time with more than 2-3 human players involved.

I’ve added a tonne of people to my friends list, but only a few are UK or EU based, half of them don’t play Brink any more, and the rest live too far for the games to be smooth enough on a p2p network. the best I’ve managed to organise via external forums and chat rooms is a 3v3. :frowning:

Brink is my current favourite game, and I can’t even play it.
How do you ping vs eastcoasters in ssf4? My Adon will rape you

Not once on any other online title have I had to add other players to keep my self from sitting in empty lobbies watching bots run around like headless chickens. It shouldn’t be our job to set up games to play, thats what a MATCHMAKING system is for. What you are telling people to do is a work around to a present issue, not actually what someone should be doing when playing online.

Also realise that not everyone plays games with the desired intention of always making new friends or setting up a good team to play through a number of matches, some people just come on to play a couple of matches then go off to do other things. You think that these people enjoy attempting to join games and been thrown into matches of 2 v 2 or 8 v 2? I guess your solution to that is to add everyone in the game and hope they’re online when you next attempt to get a game right?

That’s how non mainstream industry is going to head more and more, as their customers trash them every time, they’ll get even less support by publisher, and will be forced to release in an even more unfinished state, etc…
You have a choice, either the current mainstream is where you want PC gaming to go, and in this case, feel free to trash Brink (and others … I don’t know for example how the latest Mount&Blade release was), or you can support non mainstream (shall I say “innovative”?) even though that means going through bad release.

I made mine, that’s why I’m not so upset, angry, and mad, at SD
Just a little bit

First off my friends list is full, so how can i add people? Im not deleting anyone just to have more friends to play this game. Besides shouldnt they have the multiplayer servers worked where you will have more human players to play with than bots? Seems like they are just half assing the mulitplayer part which is the whole game.

Second I have yet to play a full game. The most i have encountered is a 3v4 and the rest are bots. So whos fault is it that no one on the PS3 is playing this laughable game? I was hoping this wasnt going to turn into a Homefront, but alas it is. Their multiplayer structure is dumb and they need to fix it and add lobbies, and matchmaking so that there will be more games with people than bots. But honestly i can care less because i will be getting rid of it soon. Ill keep it long enough to get more trophies and then trade it twards a good game like InFamous 2.

LMAO my thoughts exactly. This dudes just got his head up his fanboy ass.

(Oschino1907) #26

So just because i have friends online playing and I on the regular on PS3 get full matches going with all humans it make me a fanboy with my head up my ass. Sounds to me like your just a sour puss that is mad none of his friends play and is too worried about deleting some of you 100 friends that i gurantee you dont play with on a daily basis. If you really wanted to play the game it wouldnt be a big deal to make some new friends that are also into said game but sadly you would prefer to just cry like a 5yr old and call everyone who is having fun in full matches daily on PS3 fanboys with their heads up their ass. Get over yourself, its no wonder you cant find anyone to play with, you have FearlessFox syndrome.

(testiculus) #27

Clearly you haven’t played an FPS that has a functioning matchmaking system. I shouldn’t have to have 8 friends with the game to play with humans online. This post is to benefit the developer, not to bash them. Relax buddy.

(testiculus) #28

Read the post buddy, it is to inform the DEV why I, and many many others, are disappointed with a game they could’ve loved. Discussion and growth are what forums are for, chief.

Because he has a right to be heard? I’m sorry that not every person comes on here stroking SD and Brink. If SD is as great as many of you make them out to be and how they’re all about community, then if they read this they’ll realize “Oh **** maybe next time we should include a lobby system because people like playing with friends without the hassle!”

Also, what if someone wants to buy this game and they’re on the forums trying to see how the community is? They’ll see this thread about someone returning brink and realize that this won’t be a good game to play with friends because it will become a hassle getting into games together. What if one person plus four more want to do some competition matches? It’s pretty damn tricky without a lobby system.

Sick of people saying this game is fine – it’s NOT!

(wolfnemesis75) #30

Brink is a very challenging game. You have to level up your character to 3 rank before the game really starts to open up, and I think many bailed too early or got frustrated with the difficulty level, grasping the controls, and knowing how to play a role within the context of a team and classes. Unlocking weapon attachments alone is an uphill sled for many, I know it was tough beating the challenges for me, but I love challenging video games even if it means the bots are auto-aiming headshooters. This is not a game you are beasting people right out of the box and fully grasping. Once you unlock everything in this game, or even half of the abilities, it really starts to shine. Stick it out a bit longer, get through the challenging parts, and dig deep to figure out what works best. The bots can be beaten, you just have to get your skill level up to match them. Beating Parkour This on 3 Star and Be Objective is a feat to be proud of, its that hard. The game is hard and very challenging.

I don’t understand your post. OP’s main reason of returning the game was because it was difficult to play with friends due to the lack of a lobby or party system. Not sure what your entire post was based on…

(wolfnemesis75) #32

Just sharing my impression of many who have talked about returning the game in general. Not specifically the Op returning because of lack of lobby or party system. Other people read the thread and comment, so I wanted to share my impressions on reasons to stick it out. I should’ve added that perhaps SD is working hard behind the scenes to add such a party system. They’ve already patched the game a couple of times and seem prepared to keep tweaking. Perhaps a party system will be added soon, which is a shame that the Op returned the game. Sorry if I was off topic. My main point: if you can stick it out a bit longer, the bugs and some tweaks to improve the experience will be made is what I think.

Something confuses me here…all the time I hear complaints of
“I can’t find a team of more than 2-3 humans.”
but from the same person I hear,
“There’s no lobby to join with friends”
this makes no sense.

If the game is EMPTY, why are you having such a hard time inviting your friends?

Join a game that’s 2 v 2.;
Invite friends.
???
Friends v 2? what’s the issue?

He’s a shill for the company. A forum plant. Likely a relative of one of the Dev team.

Well, I’ve tried that and made an empty room that hadn’t filled up yet, invited the friend I had in the chat to the room, and it put him on the other team and wouldn’t let him switch teams.

Its a total cluster **** without a lobby.

I was playing with a guy last night who joined our party and game and there were 4 players on one side and 3 on the other. Once he joined we had 8 or 9 players in the game and bots. He thought he was only playing against bots. The other team had 4 human players at least and he did not know that you could check the scoreboard and I had to explain that the green bars are human players. He was very surprised and honestly did not know how to check if there were players rather than bots, and seemed confused overall about if he was playing campaign, or with bots or against just bots. He seemed to think you could only play against bots, and there were mostly human players in the match!

I also am starting to get concerned people are confusing certain elements of the menu.

(TheBIG_Lebowski) #37

All my PS3 friends who had this game has returned this steaming pile. The friends i have online have been there for quite some time, and most are in my clan. I play with 80% of them throughout the week. Im not deleting people ive known for years just to play with random pub nubs like yourself just to get some fun out of a game that should be easier to get into rooms with 8v8s since this is basically an online only game. Keep on that SD tit it will pay off with all the awesome friends you have met here.

(Sabayon) #38

You returned it before you could let them fix certain aspects of game. Only gave it a few days?.. Seems like you need a bit more patience in your life.

The issue is that it shouldn’t be up to the consumer to have to setup a match by manually inviting friends, what sort of FPS game would do that? Sometimes I just want to play a match instead of hassling about in my friends list.
You also need to take into account that, some people don’t want to add random people just to get into a game.

Anyway, by now people have probably told their friends that the game sucks.
:penguin:

(testiculus) #40

The patience should have been utilized by the developer before release as to avoid putting out an incomplete game. Also, games need to be returned within a week in order to get a full refund. Seems reasonable to me.
