Why I returned brink: an FYI to splash damage

(testiculus) #1

As stated in the title, both my brother and I decided to return brink a few days after purchase. I’ll start by saying that I was really disappointed to return this game as it has enormous potential.

To splash damage,
The reasons I, and my brother, returned the game were the lack of a party system and the inability to play with humans online.

on the first point, for a game that is essentially only multiplayer, the process in place to “party up” is a wholly unrewarding experience. No one wants to use xbox live’s slow, cumbersome invite system. A lobby system would be great, too, though the warm up system could be sufficient if it ever worked, but the ability to party up prior to a game is a must.

On the subject of bots, I see the benefit of a good bot system, but for online play, no one wants this. We want real competition. At least allow us to turn the bots off for multilayer or keep it on for those that want it.

Perhaps this will all be fixed, but I’m not going to pay 60$ for a beta.

Good luck sd,
This game could be great. Listen to your community.

I’ve gone from firing up Brink as my game of choice every evening, to Super Street Fighter 4 as my current go to.

I put Brink in once a night to see if there are any games going, but I honestly can’t find more than a couple of rooms at a time with more than 2-3 human players involved.

I’ve added a tonne of people to my friends list, but only a few are UK or EU based, half of them don’t play Brink any more, and the rest live too far for the games to be smooth enough on a p2p network. the best I’ve managed to organise via external forums and chat rooms is a 3v3. :frowning:

Brink is my current favourite game, and I can’t even play it.

Bots make MP worse.
They need to fix the Matchmaking system to close small games and consolidate players, so we can actually play games with more than 4 humans at a time.

:frowning:
Now hard times begin :

  1. SD need to fix the matchmaking and
  2. Somehow, the PS3 community has to reform after that. Meaning, Brink must have enough potential so that people leaving will check now and then the state of the game, find it corrected, and play again.

why am I pessimistic about this ?

If Brink gets the following updates to consoles in the next month or so, the game will be saved (imo):

Matchmaking or Lobby system
The ability to activate VOIP in all game modes, or set fully custom settings (including bot filter).
Network stability
Team balance options.

That’s it. Ps3 is a ghost town and this could change that.

(danyoo) #6

Its not long before everybody gets really really frustrated and stop playing altogether.
:penguin:

Brink will never get the substantial updates you want. The DLC is just a bunch of stuff that was half finished by launch time. You know when the game was ‘done’ so they released it a week early

Now that the game is all but dead they will cut any further support. Time to give up the ghost people

(AZTEC-SJSU) #8

I have had the game since day one on PS3 & have never seen 8 vs. 8…bummer the best I’ve seen is 5 vs. 3 which is Ggggreeeeat balancing!!!

Being completely fair… I think this game is going to be the reference point for future games as to character customizations, abilities and team support necessity.
Hoping, like most of us, that POTENTIAL becomes a REALITY!

You don’t know much of SD history of supporting their game, do you?
There’s a fair chance they continue patching for some time. They did it in ET:QW after their publisher dropped the ship and stopped supporting them financially.

SD seemed so confident in their bots (which if tuned well, ARE impressive) that they didn’t cater to those who dislike them out of principle.

Dead? If I am home and on at 5:30 PM my time today, I will be part of an 8v8 all-humans private match.

The game is far from dead. Lag on 360 is clearly improved, and likely to improve even more with the DLC. Lots to look forward to. Well, at least until November when Battlefield 3 and Skyrim drop …

Wow really FearlessFox cause i saw you in the chat with a FEW of the people i play with and lately between them and other friends i have been in tons of matches with atleast half humans and more then enough with full human populations. I am surprised you still have so much trouble with the game… Maybe its not the game and its YOU. I get invites almost every day form people on here and online when i am playing so to say the people arent out there or online is totally false and just your personal experiance despite many trying to help you.

(danyoo) #13

I have to admit, last night all of my team were human players (not sure about the other team) and it was sooo much fun.

Unfortunately I haven’t had a match like that since.

(engiebenjy) #14

I am not too bothered by the bots, its nice to have them to make up the numbers. I agree though that getting into a game with humans (on the ps3) is a slow process. Most games have about 4 humans in total, occasionally when using the big teams option I can get into a game thats about 10 humans total.

Perhaps this is being caused by too many players playing in campaign mode?

It seems like most of the people experiencing the problems that the OP is complaining about are console gamers. On the PC you can use Steam to invite friends to your game and search for friends in a game to join them.

As far as “party up”, that is called a “Fire Team” and I don’t know how you create one on consoles but I found this post very helpful: Fireteam Creation Guide (Use Voice Chat!) - Created By MIND BULL3TS

Also, I believe the servers can be set to only allow human players.

Again, I’m on a PC so these may be console-specific problems. Keep in mind that, traditionally, SD is a PC game developer.

Agreed. Ive been on Brink at least every other day on PS3 and theres no rooms at all. Its terrible to go against bots on here. They have supreme situational awareness, and laser accuracy. Its very boring and i just dont like the online system they have brought to us. No lobbies, play against bots, just seems half assed. Im starting to think this will be returning after Infamous 2 releases.

(Instant_Soldier) #17

The release/patch cycle for PC games seems to get worse all the time. Regardless of SD’s reputation, we shouldn’t have to depend on their good graces to fix what needed to right at launch.

(Oschino1907) #18

I will tell you the same thing i have been saying to FearlessFox for days, I HAVE 7 FRIENDS online right now playinhg and about another 5-6 who have the game but are playing something else or are idle. I AM ON PS3. Not everyone else fault you dont have friends that play or are too lazy to make and add friends to play with, I get full matches goin every day and since the patch the lag has been much less (if at all) although textures are worse but doesnt really effect anything in the game for me. Dont blame the game for things YOU have control over and can change/fix.

(Protector) #19

If you returned your game why are you here. Go away. Bye.

(Tetra) #20

Be glad you could at least return Brink.

PC gamers get screwed with terribad games like Brink on Steam :frowning: We can’t sell it, give it to friends, or anything. No way to recoup any of our wasted money!
