Why does so few players choose mercs based on what the team needs?

Because they’re too busy test-driving the Mercs they want to play as for Free Rotations. It’s the reason I hate the current Free Rotation system.

Because its pub games, everybody goes who they want to play. Nothing is at stake, nothing is on the line, maybe if they included extra credits for the winning team (eg. 20% more credits for winning), that’d make people want to win more often.

I hear you, but one of the huge appeals of this genre is the promoted ability to “choose a playstyle and character that fits you!” You’re right that a healthy team composition is more important for a victory, but people walk into the game with that promise in their head and I can’t really blame them. In casual. In competitive I couldn’t imagine not doing what the team needs. That’s why I don’t play competitive.

His comment is exactly the answer needed. The only one being ignorant is you. If you want to be told how to have fun have at it. Most players aren’t going to play something they don’t want to in a pub. If you’re looking for people to work as a team get friends and rely on them, but complaining about people not playing the game “how it’s meant to be played” in a pub is ridiculous. “Becuase they want to” is the kind of answer you´d expect from a 12 year old. There is nothing unreasonable about wanting your teammates to do at least some sort of effort to help out the team. It doesn´t matter how you put it, winning IS more fun than losing, and you don´t have to play something you hate to help in achieving victory, a lot of the time just some common sense would help a great deal…

I play a lot with friends, but I also do a lot of solo play on pubs, and I don´t see why people should crap all over their teams just because it´s a pub. DB is a game based on team efforts, if you wanna go completely solo there are games more suitable for that.

You don´t start playing football if you don´t care for teamplay so to speak.

Like I´ve said, there is always something you can do to help your team in some way, even without doing any huge changes. Use some common sense in where you choose to fight, play your characters strengths and use your second favorite merch for a little while when it´s more needed than your number one choice. But even this seems to be asking too much. I thing it´s a completely reasonable request that your teammates at least don´t cripple your team.

See that’s where you’re wrong. Not everyone plays to win or only has fun when they win. If you’re playing just to win you’re not having fun you’re doing a chore. The only time when I don’t enjoy a game is when my team is doing horrid and we’re getting camped by better players. If the game is actually even and my team mates are doing OK it’s fine. I don’t need a medic following me around or a ammo giver. I know where all the ammo crates are and I die when there is only a couple seconds left on respawn timer. I always keep Fletcher in my squad in case we’re running out of time on offense or a bomb is planted.

Like I said. Your question is a very simple question that can be answered by just thinking about why the person is playing the game in the first place. To have fun. That’s the only answer you will ever get unless they have 3 mission for 3 different mercs they don’t enjoy. If you want to play an organized game play competitive. You have no right to tell someone to play a certain role in a pub. You’re just a random person to them just like they are to you.
