Why do YOU not use a microphone in public matches?

(FalC_16) #21

I used to be playing a lot games like Battlefield. There the community was crying on forums for many years until DICE finally implemented the in game VOIP in BF4/3. That game is about ob-jeck-tivez as well.

I find really strange that people feel shy or don’t like this feature in DB. DB is all about PTFO. VOIP supports that a lot. Short sentences like “cover me” or “planting” via VOIP sound much more serious and I actually tend to pay attention when my team mate uses mic to tell me that. Ofc if he is not literally yelling at me ^^ not being a d1ck on voice chat is key I agree.

I don’t.

(Izzy) #23

I am already on a TS with friends playing other games, and that confuses them when I yell: “Rush far A” in the Mic.

They are easily confused.

Why are they my friends already?

You have no idea how much power you have. Speak in the mic, and I tell you, there would be no more leavers, no more rager. No more skill either, that’s the price to pay.

(Faraleth) #24

Oh, I forgot voice comms existed…

(Scrazzor) #25

When I play public matches I play for fun. I see no reason in using voicecoms at all. If I wanna try hard I go play DBN PUGS or competitive matchmaking where voicecoms and good communication is an essential part of the game. In a public games the first time I hear someone speak I open the console and type muteall. I wish I could turn of voicecoms permanently from the menu, but I have not gotten it to work yet.

I started using my mic in game yesterday (I have complicated audio setup and can rarely be arsed to set it up anymore) and I have to say Just by using a mic I seem to be able to get people to drop ammo/health and revive alot more and even coordinate/work together as a unit.

Not to sound big headed but I think I was the reason we were able to turn a few games around last night, that could be considered total failures into games where we scraped victory from the very clutched claws of the enemy. All just by calling out enemies/airstrikes and asking for backup and support and telling people to push up once we wiped the majority of the enemies out etc.

Of course this was like 3 games out of 6 and not everyone listens, and the majority of people tell me to shut up etc, but it even got some “squeakers” last night using mic chat and we were all communicating with no hate/bashing/rage, we lost that one game with the lil ones but at the end of it, we actually tried our best to help each other out and actually work as a team, something I had yet to experience while playing this game xD

(Drac0rion) #27

Tried “communicating” with a mic a few times, gave up on it, because we had 3-4 skyhammers on team and I had to resort to 3 melee kills in underground last defense before I died(while there still wasn’t that last ammo crate for defense). I had to v,2,2; “Please give me some ammo!”; v,2,2; while knifing them in their face…
Ever since that I’ll just try to make my way to an ammo crate or just fight till the end with just a melee left, if the fire support players on my team aren’t at least level 10. :’(

(frankopeti) #28

I use a mic a lot and every1 on my team wants to kick me:)

#29

Everyone has different mic volume, some scream so hard I can’t even hear my own gun, some are so quiet i don’t understand a word, some just speak in languages nobody understands. Way too many angry teenagers raging over voice chat. If somebody gives a call it’s usually something like ‘behind you’ or ‘they are delivering’ - when whole team is wiped. Just plain useless.

Way more often voice chat gets you killed than actually helps anyone. Not worth the effort.

(Kirstµ) #30

I only use my mic to (usually) politely ask for ammo and health if voice commands don’t do the trick. It’s usually helpful, and after “teaching” people how to throw ammo/health by pressing a button, they learn a useful lesson, I thank them and say good job.

Whole process is over in a few seconds, no one is annoyed and I get my ammo.

(LifeupOmega) #31

I use TS and play with friends instead. Random idiots in pubs aren’t going to listen no matter what you use to communicate to them, so why bother? Communities don’t exist in this game so I frankly don’t care to talk to people I’ll never see again.

See, back in TF2’s early days we had tight knit communities where everyone would talk with each other because we got to know each other, there’s no reason for that in this game. There’s no sense of community, there’s no servers outside of the standard ones we have, and there’s no need to get better or communicate because there’s zero need to do so.

(cordovanJive) #32

I agree with some of the other people in here. Coming from some other games where voice comms are extremely important I was super surprised to see nobody talks…

I guess I can get it, there are no set up callouts like CSGO that have just been there for years. But I’m sure some people can say something as simple as “Let’s go left”, “there’s a proxy on the bomb”, “Watch out, air strike!”, etc… I try to use comms and often if one person is talking some more people begin to talk. As they get more comfortable.

Just play tf2 on pug servers. People still talk and make callouts… Because communication can be huge. https://Tf2center.com

There’s a point in what you’re saying @LifeupOmega , but I haven’t given up hope of getting community sense into the world of DB at some point. Let it be in form of more complex and adjustable private servers or something completely else, maybe even Nexon taking their head from their bag of money and realising community servers would life up the game nicely hence brining even more dosh.

Whenever I open my breadhole of nonsense and goofery, for the weirdest reasons I from time to time amass quite a following, usually resulting in good times to be had with same group of bored time wasters for couple of games, occasionally even couple games the next day and so forth. So in my opinion there is hope for community-relations, we just do indeed need better enviroment for that.

(SteelMailbox) #35

What would I say? “Repairing the EV”? No one ever gives protection or stops anything in pubs anyway. Most players I play with think this is TDM…

(Scav) #36

Anything that gives intel, mic is superior. Just quick messages like “phantom near our spawn” or when someones ninja-repairing the EV while everyone is busy with the slaughter on the other side of the map. Usually when someone writes in the chat, i notice it minutes later if not at the end of the match.

Despite that i rarely use mic just cause i mostly sort things out by myself (watch out, we got a badass ovah here!..nah, not really). But i would encourage ppl to do it cause once or twice since i started playing i encountered some seriously hilarious banter squad, which makes the game ridiculous and much more fun.

If ppl say in random (preferrably funny) things i usually have a good giggle, and theres always the mute option. :]

(LifeupOmega) #37

I used to play pugs all the time back when I actually played in 6s and Highlander. I just want the same level of community that TF2 pre-2011 had.

As for the callouts, there used to be an imgur map link floating around with all the rough callouts teams used in Dirty Bomb.

(The_Enema_Bandit) #38

I rarely use my microphone as intended.

I’m afraid my voice is so charming it’s distracting to teammates, so I use it in emergencies only. Like when I need help repairing the EV with Fletcher and there is only two of my teammates helping me repair. When I do speak though, I try to sound like a New Orleans radio host, acting cool and stuff in front of the many ladies I often meet in game.

(KattiValk) #39

It’s funny the first 5 times, then I just feel like violently stabbing a teddy bear and bleaching my ears.

(AlphaUT) #40

It is dumb when people keep cursing to others when others just what ? using mic ? I had two games with two people who were using microphone a lot, and others just like keep saying shut the @#!$ up. I said "If you don’t what to hear their voices, just right click their name and mute ". BUT truth is people who were cursing said “It is time for this kid to learn a lesson.” I mean, what the heck is that ? To learn a lesson ? It is totally BS to cursing for an unacceptable reason and take "this kid needs to learn a lesson’ as an excuse. Sigh…

BTW , sometimes, a skyhammer does not give me an ammo pack at all even though i used voice chat LMAO
