Why do people hate Dome?

(Ferrous) #1

Here is something I haven’t been able to understand well. Why do people hate dome so much?

Also, How do I change my username?

(x3mytiz) #2

Simpleminded people.

I think its way to attackers sided for the first 2 objectives. Other than that, the problems the map had to start with have just put me off the map entirely

Dome is love, dome is life.

Sadly, it looks like most people aren’t aware of the most recent changes to Dome that made the work much more simple for the attacking team up to the third objective, and overall improved greatly the flow of the map… At least I guess it’s that.

Personally I don’t mind Dome. To be honest, I quite enjoy it. It always feels like a nice change of scenery, because the map is such a rarity to be picked.

Now, the complaints I hear the most of are either that the map is too big, which takes the players too long to get to the objective, or that the objectives are much easier for one side than the other.
There are probably more complaints about it, but these are the ones I heard of the most.

There could be as well a psychological reason for everyone hating dome and that is that everyone hates dome. For example: ‘‘everyone hates dome then it must be bad.’’ ‘‘It’s the worst map of the game, why would anyone expect it to be fun.’’
I think it’s called mob mentality.
Even, if I said it, I really doubt this is the reason. There are probably some objective reasons as to why ‘‘everyone’’ hates dome, and I kind of do hope that somebody who is actually knowledgeable enough about this, would point them out.

I don’t hate it. I feel like there’s something missing in terms of balance though. Don’t get me wrong I think both sides have equal chances. But 95% of the time I played Dome, it came down to the last objective. Both sides could win but I find it a bit disappointing that it’s really hard to defend one of the first 2 objectives until the time is over.

The second objective is the one that “suffers” the most from it. In the past it was hard for the attackers to do both plants. But now it’s the complete opposite. In the past both teams had to focus on both planting zones. Now the defenders still have to do that while the attackers can simply overrun one of the zones and focus on that one zone. The defenders have to spread their team, while the attackers can all run into one of te zones.

I understand why they changed it but now they have made it a lot harder to defend the 2nd objective and at the same time made it a lot easier to attack the second objective. Which is basically tipping over the problem. Now the defenders have a harder job than the attackers.

Almost all the matches I played on the defending team and that we won, we were pushed back to the 3rd objective. But then with a lot of time left on the clock (and still the exact same teams) the attackers barely planted any c4s (or most of the time couldn’t even plant once) on the last objective. So my conclusion would be that the first 2 objectives are a bit too much attacker favoured.

Again in the end it doesn’t really matter because when it comes down to the last objective, the best team usually wins. It’s just a bit frustrating sometimes that it’s hard to stop the attackers before the 3rd objective.

Anyway that’s how I experience Dome. Again I don’t hate the map, it’s just I am almost always certain that the game will be decided on the 3rd objective (unless the teams are really unbalanced). Can’t say if other people have had a similar experience though.

I actually loves Dome right now, the performance is better andit’s actually pretty fun in 7v7 or 8v8

My problem is because most players always losing their way and didn’t even realize where the firefight happens

(TheFluffyOne) #9

I think that problem mostly arises because players don’t have enough experience with this map. It’s not that complicated to remember all the maps’ paths and after playing enough times you can actually figure out all the hot spots of this map, by which I mean all the locations where the two balanced teams usually collide.

(GatoCommodore) #10

people hate dome because they need to remember a big map

(im blaming laziness and stupidity)

(Nail) #11

because THEY find it difficult to play their game/style

(Terminal_6) #12

I think if you want to be a bonehead rambo, which most pubs do, Dome makes the game much harder. Each objective has a pretty easy way to separate you from the rest of your team, so if one braindead pub keeps going the same way and getting 3v1’d, they get frustrated instead of getting smart.

Even as a competent player, it means you’re beholden to your team. If they want to keep going right when the left side is obviously less defended, your options are typically to go solo on the left or fruitlessly push the on the right.

Dome best map.
Dome for president 2023.
Dome is love.
Dome is life…

(Nail) #14

imo, taking away classes killed the “Team” part of the game, everyone plays “Boom Headshot”

or collector cards

(hawkeyeguy99) #15

Dome is close to my favorite map. It has some of the best (imo) useful trick jumps in the game. Plus I love how open it feels. There’s so many ways to get from one place to another and yet I’m never out of the action for long.

(Press E) #16

Dome feels too large for this game imo. It’s not that bad, but trying to defend it just feels weird. If servers were larger than 8v8 I might like it more, but otherwise it just feels empty.
And sure, maybe some people like that, but I don’t. I love the standard merc-spam DB matches, they’re more fun to me.

Not to mention most people still get performance issues on it.

(SnakekillerX) #17

I actually like dome, but I find my team is even more split up than usual when I play it.

It could be that people just find the lack of support or team cohesion to be off putting since the map is larger and has more areas for the team to get split up on.

This isn’t really a fault of the map some much as a communication issue. (lack of communication is the fault of many problems)

That being said, I don’t vote for Dome, simply because I like the other maps more, but not because I dislike Dome. I’ve had some good times on Dome in the past, but a lot of team related frustration as well.

I actually prefer split up teams more because it usually ends up the same for the other team as they gotta deal with the accidental “flankers”, which means its easier to control the chaos for each team and it actually ends up in teams skill per person level unlike other maps;

-Lol we gonna give you a shitty, incompetent “team” which tries to get kills instead of PTFO and teamwork, oh we are also giving the enemy team an actual TEAM, good luck trying to win lmao

(Yes I hate Objective gamemode)

While what you said makes sense… you should see the teams I get put on sometimes. It just makes a bad thing worse.

still serve the purpose of being a walking target while you plant the bomb
sometimes they are so stupid the enemies would likely target them first because they know they will get a kill, much like butters in South Park Stick Of Truth
