Why do people hate Dome?

(Chilled Sanity) #21

I actually like dome, but I find my team is even more split up than usual when I play it.

It could be that people just find the lack of support or team cohesion to be off putting since the map is larger and has more areas for the team to get split up on.

This isn’t really a fault of the map some much as a communication issue. (lack of communication is the fault of many problems)

That being said, I don’t vote for Dome, simply because I like the other maps more, but not because I dislike Dome. I’ve had some good times on Dome in the past, but a lot of team related frustration as well.
I actually prefer split up teams more because it usually ends up the same for the other team as they gotta deal with the accidental “flankers”, which means its easier to control the chaos for each team and it actually ends up in teams skill per person level unlike other maps;

-Lol we gonna give you a @$!#, incompetent “team” which tries to get kills instead of PTFO and teamwork, oh we are also giving the enemy team an actual TEAM, good luck trying to win lmao

(Yes I hate Objective gamemode)
While what you said makes sense… you should see the teams I get put on sometimes. It just makes a bad thing worse.
I personally like dumb teams because that means I can use them as meatshield than blame them

Also can say Ez win after we lose 7 to 0

I love them when I’m playing medic, so many revives.

I almost consider some of them as bots too tbh. Bad teammates are somehow really predictable, so I use them a lot to create distractions by moving my med station or pushing away from them

(Ferrous) #23

I like Dome but it rarely gets picked. I asked why in chat a couple times but everyone says “dome is crap.”

(K1X455) #24

as for me, they invoke glorious 1.16fps much faster than the other maps

(Xyfurion) #25

Dome is fun. But somehow I always get stuck with a dumbass team on Dome. Like they are literally straight up idiots.

(Xyfurion) #26

Could you possibly mean jumping around like a fucking spastic monkey while spraying and praying? I saw a level 37 do that. It was saddening.

(Ferrous) #27

How to change profile picture?

(Xyfurion) #28

@Ferrous I believe you need to get to 25 point before you can change your profile picture. I’m not sure though. It’s been a long time since I had to reach 25 points.

(averagerussian) #29

because they don’t know it

I find dome has inconsistent game play as you move through it, while maps like chapel and terminal have a similair type of combat as you go through it. Also cut down on the multiple flanking routes would be great.

(Teflon Love) #31

It seems many players learned their attacker tactics from teeny slasher movies (“let’s split up!”). This works reasonably well in pubs on maps with few flanking routes but not so much on Dome with all its sewer tunnels and roof tops. It’s also quite common to see a crowd meditating in front of the generators for the first objective instead of a Kira or Arty just blowing it up.

On defense the headless chicken tactics seem to be popular, which yields particular horrible results on the first 2 objectives. In that case all one can do is putting a Bushwacker turret in the pit and hope for the best.

The last time I started a map vote with dome this happened:

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/97226319701747506/46BE52B5406420D65119B17A7E3AC5E1BAB88FCC/

It’s a shame because once you have some basic knowledge about the various paths and most important jumps it’s such a fun map.

So, the conclusion of this discussion is that Dome is not hated, but just misunderstood.

(ImSploosh) #33

Dome is the best map in the game.

What I don’t understand is why no one ever talks about Bridge like they talk about Dome. Bridge is an awful map. Even after the recent changes, it’s still terrible. Not only are people clueless on Bridge, but the map’s layout is just bad in my opinion. Added onto that, its performance is worse than Dome, has been for a while.

The MOFO update and recent patches have helped to increase overall performance of the game- thankfully, this helped Bridge a lot, but I still experience the most stutters and FPS drops while on Bridge.

Of course this is just my opinion, but fact in my eyes

I like Bridge tbh. I do agree though that a lot of players seem to be clueless as to what they have to do (especially with the destroying of the generator to lower the barricade). And in the past, the performance on it was also weaker than on the other maps (it didn’t affect me that much but the framerate was overall lower and more unstable than on the other maps). So you are right about that as well. Now it’s on par with the other maps (at least in my experience).

The one I like the least is Trainyard tbh. That said I don’t think that there are really awful maps in the game. But that’s of course also a personal opinion.

Dome is one of the best maps when it comes down to the layout. Lots of flanking routes and it’s also the one which focuses the most on the parkour side of the gameplay. I just sometimes wish it looked a bit more colourful though (lots of brown walls) but that’s a small nitpick.

My personal favourite would be Terminal (though I know a lot of people will disagree with me on that).

One thing is the map is too big: You can get lost with ease. I’m still struggling to remember the maps. And at the last objective, defenders can use the layout for their own good, like waiting for an airstrike or laser to go away in a room and set a defense there. When it’s gone, push back the attackers.

Second: Tactics. In pubs, your team might focus on one useless secondary objective. It gives the enemy a chance to rekt you and them idiots. If you are somehow lucky and passed the 1st objective, the next thing they do is to split up, to secure BOTH pylons. Now, you only need to destroy 1 pylon, but they think it’s a gud idea to plant C4 like Terminal. And everything is F. U. C. K. E. D.

Now, the biggest reason why I hate Dome is not the map’s fault. It’s because for some reason, RNG decided to f*ck with me and push all the pros into the enemies’ team.

But, for some reason, my cousin says that defending Dome is really easy.

it is really easy
you control the high ground and just peek left and right

arty can do the job easily
(he can even drop one on the right pylon from the spawn)

Until you realize that my cousin only has Aura and Sky. And I’m struggling to get Fragger and didn’t have Arty yet, not to mention that I don’t remember the map and have piss-poor accuracy (23% accuracy, maybe worse).

gotta buy arty or sawbonez with the first 30k
its a must have, too good to miss

Definitely agree with this. Of the two I would say to go for Sawbonez first (but that’s a personal opinion). Sawbonez was the first merc I bought and is still the one I use the most in my squad.

I noticed a lot of people complain about the second objective. What I do is I sneak and plant one pylon, and then use the underground passage to go plant the other one. Both pylons are really easy to defend once planted (unless you’re team isn’t any good). There’s tons of spots to be that give you a nice vantage point.

As for the first objective, the best way is to rush at the beginning of the match. People just don’t expect that immediate rush. I tend to go to the right side because it’s easy to go up and over the people waiting below. Then, by the time they realize you’re delivering, you’ve delivered!

Only downside is turrets and mines in that little hole. They can be a pain in the ass, but it’s still doable.
