Why Brink has fanboys:

Wall-O-Text Alert:
This thread was “supposedly” all about “Skill Ceilings” and other whatnot BS. However, I just couldn’t get why the OP would try to diss brink by comparing it’s skill level to that of the likes of ETQW and Counter-Strike. LOL. It just seemed like a lame delusion to me. So, I decided to point him in the direction of a game with a REAL visible gap between skilled and n00b players.
Which, BY THE WAY, is where all the PC vs Console crap came from. Little scrubs that think they are l33t because they know how to install an FPS onto a PC will always fall back onto a PC vs Console argument whenever they see a superior player counter their flawed logic IF THAT player is on a console. Simply because, even though that player is most likely 10x more skilled than they can ever be at PC FPS games, it’s still a safe bet that the superior player hasn’t (and will never) buy the original topic game for PC, so it’s safe to try and invalidate everything he says by throwing lame PC vs Console wisecracks at him…
End of Wall-O-Text Zone

LOL. You should really go to the official forums for that example game I used and check out my history of posting there.

-I ran a pretty notable campaign to get the devs to add full clan support to it, BECAUSE of how wide the gap in skill could be.
-I made a vow during the pre-release beta to not join any clans until we had gotten clan matches (or a substitute) enabled.
-That vow resulted in me playing that game for over a year straight without ever joining a clan, which in turn resulted in me fielding literally hundreds of clan requests.
-Should be noted that the most common piece of advice given to newbies and struggling n00bs for that game has always been (and still is) to “JOIN A CLAN”.
-Nevertheless, I found the added difficulty of joining 256 player battles as one lone random (instead of a clan of 32 players), for over a year, to add a bit more excitement to my gaming experience.
-Developed some pretty interesting and very unexpected leadership skills during that year.
-The lack of completely controlled group-vs-group matches (scrimming), finally got to me after a while, so I moved on.
-I’m really looking forward to the next Massive First-Person Shooter to hit this industry. Like a predator in the shadows…

ETQW’s personal combat ceiling is low enough that single players have a very low probability of wiping out entire teams. However, it’s when it comes to tactics and where there’s virtually no ceiling and single players can completely turn entire matches around by their ploys.

In that it’s a far better example than MAG which btw, doesn’t come close to Raven Shield’s combat potential.

(coolstory) #63

Did you just say console are superior than pc players in fps games? You do know that console players play slow (SLOW) fps games with aim assist while pc players play games like this

Console fps games will never ever have high skill ceilings like pc games.

Go back to thinking you’re good at fps games playing against morons in consoles who cant move or aim.

(General Techniq) #64

LOL. No I didn’t say that.

Only scrubs fall back on PC vs Console arguments, when individual skill is in question.
I play all platforms, and will gladly curbstomp you on PS3, Xbox360, or PC.

But, yeah… nice deflecting there, champ.

I like the PC way to argue though, been starting to use it a lot. I just claim victory and superiority the second I have something the other person doesnt. Its nice to win an arguement by default and never have to prove a thing… By the PC standard I AM BETTER THEN EVERYONE AT EVERYTHING! by default… dont ask me to prove it, then my arguement falls flat on its face.

Based on true events.
(oh the horror)

Hella off topic but numbers are irrelevant.
NeoGeo was cool but was 20+ years ago.

(coolstory) #67

Challenge accepted. Quakelive duel?

I’m not even going to try to dignify this thread with a worthwhile response. Hacks aside on the PC version, the game requires you to unlearn what you know about conventional FPS games, because it’s NOT a conventional FPS game. Maybe if the TC spent time actually getting a measure of skill at the game rather then sitting on photoshop of GIMP making childish comics about his equally childish opinion, this thread wouldn’t exist. Ah well…another day on the interwebz.

(General Techniq) #69

More like Battlefield 3, or RAGE. The only two PC games I plan to waste any time or money on during the next 12 months.

However, feel free to be just as eager to “name YOUR game” on one of the other platforms, if one of those two games doesn’t do it for you. Champ.

(General Techniq) #70

Looks like Adobe Photoshop if you ask me, but I know for a fact that childish comics are often created on GIMP… so I can’t really tell, either.

Haha cool game choice to 1v1 someone. Sry I dont play garbage, when you get good enough to play real fps games that require skill we’ll duel.

1v1 BUNGEE RAGE CAR!!!oneoneone

Seriously, QL is free, easy&fast to download, accept his challenge you nublet

(General Techniq) #73

LOL. Kid, I played my first quake game almost a decade and a half ago. Was trying to be civil.

It was like I was in a parking garage on a late Saturday night, leaning up against my Porsche 911 9ff GT9, explaining to some green youngsta why his big turn key 550hp '10 Camaro SS wannabe muscle car just got dumped on; and some little kid suddenly walks up to me and challenges me to a race… on BMX bikes.

funny but every time i see people run into to a thread with a pc they make claims of how good it is or how my 200 dollar console isnt worth as much and therefore inferior.

sorry i didnt WASTE 2000$ on a worthless nerdgasm machine.

sorry to tell you but the best selling game of all time?? was on a console and sorry to everyone im gonna mention it was super mario bros the original with 40 million games sold, im not thinking across consoles either,

i dont count Wii sports (76 million) as that comes with every store bought wii.

im on a roll here, but the major consensus says that the best selling game cross platforms ever was CoD black ops (16 million copies) i dont see how that works i guess cause the revenue not sheer numbers.

out of all those games i don’t see a single PC one… wanna know the top selling pc game ever??

You guessed it its The Sims!!! selling 16 million Units! oh what a revolutionary idea!

the consoles win in a popularity contest which inherently makes them better. don’t be that guy that’s just trying to be different and claim Oh its so much better, sorry but sales figures out rank your claims. so what they are outdated when it comes to preference, i mean sure i actually played the original crysis on a PC there are some games to be jealous over but you cant beat it man you just cant beat a console anymore.

now for the closing statement, you cant really troll this as this is fact and what you are going to say is theoretical or physiological, so your argument makes no difference.

PC is more complex and for this complexity you get extra power and flexibility. Equating consoles with PC’s is like saying college people are equal to high school people.

Wow, nice. Appeal to popularity a.k.a. bandwagon fallacy. It’s good because it’s popular ? How about we judge facts by vote ? Let’s create encyclopaedia by voting what’s true and what’s not. Don’t bother with research.

Super Mario Bros simply can’t be the most popular game. Tetris sold 100 million copies since 2005 on cell phones alone. How about Pacman, Breakout, Snake, Pong ? All these games are more popular than Brink. By your logic, they’re better games.

I think you are talking about Mario Bros 3. It has sold almost but not quite 20million.

You sure are on a roll… Into having no credibility on this site what so ever…

tetris was bundled in most phones so i didint count it, and beyond that tetris didnt sell 100 copies, really didnt count anything that wasnt a major console.

betting you have a computer? hahahhhahahah yeah ill agree the best game i ever played was crysis and crysis warhead and they were on computer but i think xbox is still inheirently better sorry bro. popularity contest won.

I wouldnt use the High School vs College because thats really open ended, College doesnt always = Better. I would use cars as an example. The best selling cars in the world are pretty decent good quality cars but THE BEST quality cars never sell the most, just enough to keep them profitable and worth making…

nope it was super mario bros selling 40 million copies and my credibility is valid! you are the one that doesnt know what he is talking about…

what race are you because apparently its much much more superior than mine!

or so you think??
