Wall-O-Text Alert:
This thread was “supposedly” all about “Skill Ceilings” and other whatnot BS. However, I just couldn’t get why the OP would try to diss brink by comparing it’s skill level to that of the likes of ETQW and Counter-Strike. LOL. It just seemed like a lame delusion to me. So, I decided to point him in the direction of a game with a REAL visible gap between skilled and n00b players.
Which, BY THE WAY, is where all the PC vs Console crap came from. Little scrubs that think they are l33t because they know how to install an FPS onto a PC will always fall back onto a PC vs Console argument whenever they see a superior player counter their flawed logic IF THAT player is on a console. Simply because, even though that player is most likely 10x more skilled than they can ever be at PC FPS games, it’s still a safe bet that the superior player hasn’t (and will never) buy the original topic game for PC, so it’s safe to try and invalidate everything he says by throwing lame PC vs Console wisecracks at him…

LOL. You should really go to the official forums for that example game I used and check out my history of posting there.
-I ran a pretty notable campaign to get the devs to add full clan support to it, BECAUSE of how wide the gap in skill could be.
-I made a vow during the pre-release beta to not join any clans until we had gotten clan matches (or a substitute) enabled.
-That vow resulted in me playing that game for over a year straight without ever joining a clan, which in turn resulted in me fielding literally hundreds of clan requests.
-Should be noted that the most common piece of advice given to newbies and struggling n00bs for that game has always been (and still is) to “JOIN A CLAN”.
-Nevertheless, I found the added difficulty of joining 256 player battles as one lone random (instead of a clan of 32 players), for over a year, to add a bit more excitement to my gaming experience.
-Developed some pretty interesting and very unexpected leadership skills during that year.
-The lack of completely controlled group-vs-group matches (scrimming), finally got to me after a while, so I moved on.
-I’m really looking forward to the next Massive First-Person Shooter to hit this industry. Like a predator in the shadows…
