Why are there a lack of operatives? (P.S. Great game SP. No, this isn't sarcasm.)

(Zamininc) #1

Why are there a lack of operatives? They’re an extremely fun class to play. Sometimes I can get away with charging RIGHT into the enemy lines because no one suspects it. Only got caught like twice. In the same match I beleive.

Only got my turret hacked once.

(Steinernein) #2

Because operative isn’t as boxable as the other classes.

(trigg3r) #3

Operatives get the less xp, and unless played well they aren’t as helpfull as the other 3 classes.
But i do agree that they are really fun to play, i have a level 20 operative and i’m having a blast.

(peteXnasty) #4

Theyre almost useless until rank 2. I disliked them until caltrops opened my eyes. Figurativly.

Disguise, hack turret, caltrops, cortex bomb, control turret, emp grenade…I can’t wait to ruin entire teams

(Zamininc) #5

I played operative earlier when the other team was camping. I hacked their turret RIGHT BEHIND THEM.

It’s really useful for preventing camping.

(KAS--Will) #6

I believe there’s a time and a place to be an Operative… the only time there should be an Operative, is when they need to hack, other than that, I think it’s a support class and there should only be 1 (2 at most) on a team of 8.

They can’t buff, heal, or do anything except hack turrets and disguise themselves as the enemy, which fails 100% of the time an enemy cloaks themselves on the team I’m against.

Not only that, but when my friends use it, and we’ve got 5 of us on a team, 4 of us actually earn XP or do something, the person using Operative is usually sniping or waiting for a medic.

(Stormchild) #7

give some time to people to learn to play the classes… it’s like ETQw, the balancing will take some time because people need to play all classes a lot to learn the subtilities. At first, most stick to the simpler and more immediately-exploitable gameplays…

It’s like ETQW… tough start, but then it will be matured and king of online FPS. (provided supports hangs on, of course)

(tokamak) #8

Operatives also only have the real useful stuff tucked away in the high tier abilities while all the other classes have valuable standard kits.

(Squid) #9

Because people dont know how to play them. Its easy to top the board with a op. Not only are they vital to just about every mission, you can play havok behind enemy lines and allow your team to achieve other objectives you arent directly involved in.

OP is my favourite class, they are immensly powerful. That said when I am not playing op, i see many other players doing naff all. There have been many missions where they have been running around trying to capture supply posts (which is important but not as important as mission objectives) whilst the rest of their team holds the objective.

The cool thing about brink is that every class has its part to play. The cool thing about ops is that they can play any one they want. To succeed though you need to think like an op and work for your team and screw the enemy up with subterfuge.

(obliviondoll) #10

Operatives are excellent for disrupting the enemy team and causing chaos within their ranks.

I’m better at Operatives than other classes - although, as I expected, Medic is a close second.

I’ve had one match where I had a skilled rival Operative and we had some pretty epic competition - At the end I got Best Operative and Best Overall - the Op on the other team was literally 3 points behind me.

(SweetPillz) #11

Well, operative is really fun to play and the good one could be a serious threat to an enemy team. But in a current state of the game when almost all players i see play it like an another CoD game - your credit to team seems to go unnoticed.
Operatives rely on a teamplay - disable an enemy players from behind, sabotage whatever you can, let your team break through and get the objective. This is how i see the operative’s task. Not just roaming in disguise and getting a freekills from behind like most of them do.

Are you serious
stealing a uniform gives you 200XP

If you really want to XP whore operative is the way to go, I can easily get 10k+ xp in a normal match with operative.

(Murderous Pie) #13

yeah, to me you should not try to kill people that much with the operative. you have to get a disguise, find an opening, and keep moving into enemy territory (no pun intended). from there you can capture a health command post, become an engineer, lay down mines and turrets and go to town.

(TeoH) #14

The disguise ability isn’t going to be useful in organised play as it’s extremely easy in brink to keep track of where your team is, and defenders typically have an easy time spotting incoming regardless of the disguise. The ability that allows you to reveal players on the map by using a corpse however, seems very solid and i wish people would use it more.

(Runeforce) #15

I agree with that. Though a more effective way to “xp whore” is to switch classes often. I find myself switching all the time, from Operative to Engie to Medic to Soldier. Actually I find myself switching classes 20-30 times during a full map, because there’s just so much stuff to do all the time. I would say, if you are sticking to one class only, you are playing the maps wrong (as an operative.)

(xzen) #16

The EMP grenade locks out the hackbox and HE charges for ten seconds, as well as taking out peoples’ radar, turrets and mines. Spotting people is pretty good and the comms hack is massively useful (assuming anybody else pays attention to the radar), and to top it off caltrops are pretty amazing too. Then you have firewalling command posts and the actual operative objectives.

People don’t give operatives enough credit

(SpyCake) #17

Started yesterday… tons of fun, my new favourite class

(stealth6) #18

Maybe as an operative, but I’ve stuck most of my abilities into 1 class per character, so then playing other classes is kind of a waste (team wise, I’m much more valuable as the class with all the abilities)

But on the other side it is interesting to make a few hybrid characters for pub play since alot of the time you need to switch because nobody else will

(Senyin) #19

Hmm, maybe I should give it a go, sounds fun!
And it’s SD damn it!:wink:

(iFork) #20

Operative is the spy of Brink, get a disguise, find a lone player, break disguise with melee and free kill with silenced smg/shottie then comms hack and disguise again. You get lots of points and is especially deadly when FF is on since they have no way of detecting you.

Also Engi’s command post upgrade along with firewall is great for overall team support
